00:00Batman's here.
00:01Perfect.
00:03Have a huge sub note play.
00:06It gets borderline sexual.
00:35Shall we?
00:35Shall we?
00:36What's up, y'all?
00:37This is Little Stranger.
00:39We are currently week six of the Brokenhearted Boys Club tour with Trappadelic, Jarvin, Damn Skippy.
00:46We're promoting our new album, Brokenhearted Boys Club.
00:50And we're going to give you a rundown today on the gear that we use on stage and how we
00:54make this show happen.
00:55Yeah.
00:56Let's get weird.
00:57Okay.
00:57You go first, Kevin.
00:58I'm going first?
00:58Okay.
00:59Come on over.
01:01Welcome to Classic Kevin's World.
01:05Right now, I use a pretty limited setup and I like it that way.
01:10I don't like to have to do too much during the show.
01:12I let John handle all that.
01:14But my big thing is my 404.
01:17Now, 404, mainly, I'm using it just to set off intro tracks, things like that.
01:23But what I do that I think is a little different than some people is I use it to scratch.
01:32Let's turn that up a little bit.
01:38So we get a lot of cool sound effects and things like that going.
01:43I'm Batman.
01:44You know, Batman's here.
01:46Perfect.
01:46Perfect.
01:48Perfect.
01:50So we have that, the 404, my baby.
01:53Now, for vocals for me, I use the TC Helicon voice tone.
01:56It's just kind of a delay effects kind of thing.
01:59So I like to use it for emphasis when I rap.
02:01Like, yo, my name's Kevin, but they all call me classic.
02:07And it makes for big fun moments like that.
02:09This is a wireless microphone so that it ought to...
02:12Mike, what kind of microphone is this?
02:14This is our sound engineer.
02:16That is just a standard SM58 capsule on a Shure Axiant wireless unit.
02:22Let's go.
02:22Yeah, duh.
02:23That's what I was thinking.
02:24It's the top of the line.
02:25It's the top of the line.
02:28This is the bottom of the line.
02:29This is a melodica.
02:31Actually, it used to go for $23 on Amazon.
02:34They bumped it up to a hot 32 right now.
02:37I'm very upset.
02:38It's kind of crushing me monetarily, but I love this baby.
02:42And then the last piece I'll show you is the Book of Gumpisms.
02:48Wisdoms of Forrest Gump.
02:50This is a gift from Michael that he is taking back, but it is a gift for now.
02:55Life is like a rubber band.
02:56Harder you go forward, harder you snap back.
02:59So do not make slip ups.
03:02It's kind of sweet stuff like that, you know?
03:05So that's just how I control the levels of my in-ears.
03:08What's this called, Michael?
03:10It's called an Allen & Heath IPA.
03:12That one, Allen & Heath IPA.
03:15And it's been so helpful on this tour because normally we have to ask Mike to change all
03:20our levels and everything.
03:20Now I can change it all on my own while I'm here.
03:22We have the Jerry Harvey Audio JH.
03:25I got mine, I call them the Jokers because I got the purple and green combo there.
03:31But yeah.
03:32Yeah.
03:32I think that's it.
03:34Yeah.
03:34It's the Roxanne model.
03:36See?
03:36You should be talking to Mike.
03:37Uh.
03:3916 per side.
03:4016.
03:41Drivers per side.
03:42It's 12 or 16.
03:42Oh, yeah.
03:4316.
03:44Alright, come over to my room.
03:45And that's my cool setup.
03:46Yeah, go see John.
03:47Hey, come on.
03:49Alright.
03:52I'm trying to do this as succinctly as possible.
03:56The foundation of my setup, well I loop a lot.
04:00So I have the RC300 loop station.
04:02I bring it back up and actually last night we had to bust out the back up so it's always
04:07good to have two if you're able to.
04:12This is a stool from Target.
04:17That I kind of customized with some side and back and I put the shelf in which has become
04:23my whole world and the pedal board and everything.
04:27I've several times have tried to replace this with something that feels more professional
04:33and I am done with that.
04:36The stool is forever.
04:38So, I don't know if they still sell it anymore.
04:41But that's my setup.
04:42I have the Focusrite setup here.
04:45So basically the flow of how I'm making all my loops is I have a Logic Pro setup.
04:52But it's just pretty much an empty session except I have all my drum kits first.
05:04So, you know, they're all different sounds.
05:08And it's all built with one shots that I've used in the production of the songs.
05:13I've built the kits in here.
05:15And then I come down.
05:16For the first time ever too on this tour I color coded everything and I put them in alphabetical
05:21order.
05:21Which has helped a lot.
05:25So then I have my basses next.
05:27And then after that I have any like keyboard.
05:30I have some synth leads.
05:32Some organs.
05:36And then any tracks that I run that we just like play to the track are down here and I
05:40cue them from Logic.
05:42So then I have a MIDI keyboard.
05:44This is an Alesis VI25 which they stopped making this past year.
05:51So I've bought as many as I can because I'm so used to having this one.
05:56And they changed it so the pads aren't here anymore.
05:58Now they're like up here.
06:01Shout out a Alesis.
06:02And I called them.
06:04I called them.
06:06And they even in like the warehouse they don't have any.
06:10So I'm buying them off eBay, Reverb.com and they're selling for like three times the price
06:14that they used to be.
06:16So I have about six of these and hopefully they'll last as long as possible.
06:21But so I cue my beats from the MIDI controller pulling the sounds from Logic.
06:27Let's see.
06:28I can loop one real quick.
06:31And then my output goes out of just a Focusrite Scarlett Solo.
06:38And then I loop it all through the 300 so.
06:48Now I'll go to a bass.
07:01So that's kind of how I'm powering this side of things with making the beats.
07:05And then I have my guitar running through the pedal board that starts here.
07:14It goes down and goes through this section.
07:18Because we've added an electric guitar on this tour which is a first for us also.
07:22So I left it on the bus.
07:24That's okay.
07:27And yeah, it's a pretty simple pedal board really.
07:32I have a compressor that I use for a clean boost.
07:36I have an octave pedal.
07:37For just getting a deep bow.
07:42I have a dynamic filter that's like a little auto wah.
07:52I have, which is my favorite pedal here is the Smallstone Phaser.
07:59This gets that like underwater washy sound.
08:01Sounds good with the delay on too.
08:03Yeah.
08:05I have a Strymon reverb pedal for some nice.
08:11Can't really hear it all that much right now.
08:13But it's sexy.
08:17And then over here I run some, I have the Strymon Iridiums.
08:20I have two for different electric guitar settings.
08:24Got like a crunch.
08:30These things are pretty, pretty amazing to not, to replace having to bring an amp on tour.
08:36Bringing an amp on tour is rock and roll.
08:39But I'm mostly an acoustic guitar player anyway.
08:42So you avoid running into tube issues and all that.
08:47And for the most part, oh and then on the loop station.
08:50If I'm not building the loop from scratch.
08:54I have some preset ones where, let's see.
09:00Where, you know, if it's more like a break beat that I can't play super well on the pads.
09:08If it's like hi-hat heavy, I'll start the loop with that on there.
09:12And then I loop the bass and guitar on top of it.
09:16Which also kind of can help streamline the show a bit.
09:19Instead of every single song having to start with the building of the loop.
09:24So I mix it up between those two kind of things.
09:27And for the most part, that's it.
09:29This is a, Mike, what kind of microphone is this?
09:32This is a Shure SM58 on a Shure Accent wireless system.
09:36Top of the line.
09:37Top of the line.
09:38Top of the line.
09:38Top of the line.
09:39Okay, this is a Martin Triple O C16 RGTE.
09:45This is actually started as my backup.
09:47I got the same model.
09:49I originally got my first one in 2008.
09:51It was a gift from my dad when I graduated high school.
09:56And I love this guitar.
09:58I think they stopped making it.
09:59What's very cool about this, on this tour, our man Mike had these custom inlays put on the frets.
10:08It's hard to see in the light, but they glow blue.
10:11So when there's a blackout on stage, I can still find the frets.
10:16And they're all little hearts.
10:18And they're very, very cool.
10:20The strings are String Joy, light gauge.
10:24I think, what are they?
10:25They're like 12s.
10:2612s.
10:27And actually, I used D'Addario strings forever until about a year ago.
10:32Mike recommended the String Joys.
10:33I've been really liking them.
10:34I think these are like on day show three now.
10:38And that's kind of where I like them.
10:41Sometimes brand new guitar strings are a little spanky for my taste.
10:45On the electric, we just started using the String Joys with the Welm G,
10:49which has kind of been a game changer.
10:51Yeah, yeah, because I'm an acoustic player, really.
10:53So when I play electric, I tend to dig in a little too hard sometimes.
10:58Having the Welm G is nice.
11:00It feels more like the acoustic for me.
11:02I'm using a Fender Jazzmaster that I just got about a year and a half ago.
11:11I'm not much of a shredder, though.
11:13I can't really do much lead stuff.
11:14So I just use it more actually for like kind of ambient acoustic sounding stuff.
11:20Standard tuning.
11:21Picks, I use the Dunlop, the Tortex, always the yellow for me.
11:26I used to use the orange one, which is a little bit more bendy.
11:29And I've gone to the yellow and this is forever my favorite pick.
11:33Oh, this is a fun one.
11:35Oh, yeah.
11:36This is a new addition on this tour.
11:39It is, what is it officially called?
11:42This is the Porter and Davies BC2.
11:45And what it is, this is the amp module that connects.
11:48We have a cable coming out of it and it connects to his throne.
11:51And so I've got it set up so basically anytime he has like a bass hit or something low,
11:57he can feel it up his spine.
11:59Oh, and it's such a game changer.
12:00So any, yeah, anytime I have like a bass or a kick hit, it rumbles my booty.
12:08Which is nice because they're on in-ears.
12:09So it helps like get more of the feel of a like live monitor, you know?
12:15Yeah.
12:16But it doesn't have more sound on stage.
12:18Absolute game changer.
12:19Highly recommend.
12:20And if you just like have a huge sub note play, it gets borderline sexual.
12:30Well, guys, that's been the rig rundown.
12:33I hope you enjoyed all of our gear.
12:35I hope we were smart enough.
12:37Probably weren't, but we tried our best.
12:39Ain't that right, John?
12:40Thank God for Mike.
12:41Yeah.
12:41What would we do without him?
12:43Yes, we are finishing this tour up, Broken Hearted Boys Club tour.
12:46If you want to find our music, we're all over every platform, littlestrangermusic.com.
12:52We'll have future tour dates on there.
12:55We got some cool festivals and shows coming up to end the year up.
12:59And yeah, this has been a blast.
13:00Thank you very much for having us.
13:01I hope you guys enjoyed it.
13:03I hope it was informative.
13:04Woo!
13:18Bye.
13:19We'll have fun.
13:19Yeah.
13:35Bye.
