03:32Good evening, Trinidad and Tobago international audience, and of course, our brothers and sisters in Grenada.
03:39This is Beyond the Tape, and I'm your host with New Husbands.
03:41Today's Friday.
03:42Today, yes, it ends, it's the end of yet another work week.
03:45And apart from that, today was a huge celebration because the city, the capital of Port of Spain came alive
03:53for a man that we all know as the mighty Sparrow.
03:56The birdie has officially flown off and persons came out in their numbers to show respect, to show love, to
04:03show the appreciation to what he has contributed to the music, the calypso, the genre that has propelled other genres
04:12throughout the world.
04:14And he has also represented, with all social media and all these things that we have now, where he has
04:20represented the red, white, and black throughout the world, born in Grenada.
04:25And of course, he was raised in Trinidad and Tobago.
04:28We can't forget the spice that makes something nice that comes together with TNT.
04:32And the farewell was one that was greatly appreciated.
04:35Persons came out in their numbers.
04:37I think today was a day for Sparrow.
04:39The entire day, as we still speak, it is happening.
04:41Persons are still celebrating the mighty Sparrow.
04:44A man whose music will live on forever throughout the world.
04:48And of course, most importantly, will never be forgotten because it's edged in our history books for our generations to
04:56come to understand the foundation and what he has done through Calypso and with music.
05:01Not just Calypso alone, because he was able to give us jazz and, at that point in time, hit the
05:07markets and performed for dignitaries and queens and kings, you name it, around the world.
05:13The mighty Sparrow is also mighty.
05:15And we send him off in fine style.
05:17The best way we know how, Trinbegonian style.
05:19And look at that.
05:20What's the lady there?
05:22Once we have a good line, good music, and the road, that is what a Trinny is.
05:28Yeah.
05:28Look at that.
05:30Look at that.
05:33Yes, a beautiful sight to see.
05:34And of course, you gentlemen who is with us today.
05:37Remember, for the rest of the week, holding on for ASP Russell.
05:39But today is going to be the final day this week with us.
05:43If not, he will be back again.
05:45Don't worry, I will shoot a call.
05:46We have the gentleman, the corporal, the man who is always there, championing the young people, Corporal Derek Chabody.
05:53And I'm fantastic to you and yours.
05:55Yes.
05:56You know, you said it quite nicely.
05:58You know, farewell, but his music with Levon.
06:00Forever.
06:01A giant in the business.
06:02I have never formally met him.
06:04I've seen him perform.
06:05Same here.
06:06But we would miss.
06:07Same here.
06:08The Francisco, you know, the singer, the king of Calypso world.
06:13You know, I really appreciate the fact that the family and the government has made arrangements.
06:19Because, you know, there was some question mark in terms of the U.S.
06:22And I'm really, really honored and salute persons who made this possible.
06:28He's well loved.
06:29Yes.
06:30You know, his music.
06:31I appreciate it.
06:31Yes, but lived on.
06:33And I know that the young Calypstonians have a lot to learn from the art form and what he has
06:40produced and what he has, you know, demonstrated at a national, international level, if you please.
06:47You know, the birdie.
06:48I don't know about how that man could sing any type of song.
06:52His son was involved in the policial club.
06:55And I know of his daughter who works with one of the media hosts.
06:59And that's as far as it goes.
07:00But I know that Sparrow Drive, when you have Sparrow Drive, you know the Simeon Road.
07:06Yes.
07:07And then he has a massive layout.
07:10And, you know, once you turn that corner and say, hey, this is where Sparrow hideaway is.
07:13And I just want to salute all those who have made this possible.
07:17We salute the great, mighty Sparrow, king of Calypso.
07:23And I really love the turnout and all those who came out to salute him.
07:28It's absolutely beautiful.
07:29It's beautiful to see.
07:31And persons are still celebrating.
07:33So whatever you choose to do, the remainder of this evening into tonight, just make sure that you're safe.
07:37Because I know different pockets will be celebrating him.
07:40Yes.
07:40In their own way, the best way they know how, that you remember the mighty Sparrow.
07:44And some great news from the Honorable Prime Minister, Kamala Bissad,
07:47possessive Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, announcing in the ceremony that the refurbished grandstand will now be named after the
07:55mighty Sparrow.
07:56Yeah, that should be applauded.
07:57That should be applauded.
07:58That is a beautiful, beautiful recognition.
08:01It is a reflection of who he is and the art form.
08:05It's fitting.
08:05Yes.
08:06The heartbeat.
08:07Yes.
08:07Of what, you know, the culture of Trinidad and Tobago is all about.
08:11And making sure that, again, we let the name live on.
08:14Thank you very much.
08:16So come when you see it, you'll know.
08:17Thank you very much.
08:18Yes, mighty Sparrow.
08:18All I want now is a massive poster.
08:22Yes.
08:22Because sometimes we have the name and we want to show young people this is Sparrow.
08:26Yes.
08:26This is what he looks like.
08:27So I would really trust that as you enter Simeon Road.
08:31You'll see.
08:32The home of the late great years.
08:34I trust that there's some kind of arrangement to show all the fallen soldiers in Soka.
08:40This is the Black Stalin, the Kitchener.
08:42You know.
08:43Kai Sokalipso.
08:44Yes.
08:45Rapsomusia.
08:45That's foundation there.
08:47That's right.
08:47You know, that's where it came from.
08:48And of course, the originator of Soka.
08:50We salute him.
08:51And we saw Weston Peace.
08:53He lived a good life.
08:54Yes.
08:54He started to go to church.
08:55And that's a good thing, you know.
08:57Yeah.
08:57Where you'll find God and so on the solution.
09:00You never lost God, you know.
09:00It's just that we have to go back on the path sometimes when we stray a bit.
09:04But nonetheless, we send love to the mighty Sparrow.
09:06Yes.
09:06Now, I need to ask you, what was your day today, Corporal?
09:10Because were you in any of the activities taking place in Buenos Aires?
09:14I, Mr. Sponsor, I'm always having a big day.
09:17I'm always having a big day.
09:19I don't know.
09:20It just comes to the package.
09:21It comes to the package.
09:22Okay.
09:22Understood.
09:23Unfortunately, I could not join the celebrations.
09:26But I was somewhere else that was also equally important.
09:28And we had a beautiful engagement with the YTRC, the U-Training and Transformation.
09:35A beautiful session, about 65 young people.
09:40And we really talked to the young people about their choices and, you know, using, maximizing
09:46the use of where they are.
09:48Because when you're ready and you come out, it's because they represent themselves as a
09:52new person.
09:53Yes.
09:53As a person that has been changed and transformed.
09:56I want to personally commend YTRC officials.
10:00The pan side is top of the line.
10:02Yeah.
10:02Top tier.
10:03YTRC Steel Orchestra.
10:05Excellent.
10:06And the amount.
10:07What was good about this engagement?
10:09We didn't.
10:09You know something you're going to do a lecture and that's it?
10:11Yes.
10:12Young people were engaged.
10:13They performed.
10:14They did a spoken word.
10:16One of the ladies in them did a beautiful song.
10:19You had the pan side engaging and you see the children was happy to perform.
10:24Yes.
10:25You know, and somebody dropped the ball, you know.
10:27Miss Husbands, somebody dropped the ball.
10:30Parents.
10:31Oh, gosh.
10:31When your child is incarcerated and your child is in place in a home, we're supposed to be
10:38caring for our children.
10:39Of course.
10:39Yeah, that is Ms. Rez from the Victim Support.
10:43Absolutely beautiful.
10:44Lady, I saw her in action a few times.
10:47Yeah, she's excellent.
10:48Amazing woman.
10:48Excellent.
10:49Amazing.
10:50I've never met her personally, but, you know, just from observation and seeing her
10:53in these settings, it is clear that she's extremely passionate about.
10:58The children are just in awe.
11:00They want to find out about the Police Club.
11:02So I want to salute Mr. Ali, Director of Baxo and his whole team.
11:08And Deputy Commissioner Das, the Commissioner of Prisons.
11:10You know, among the red tape you need to go in the prisons?
11:13Of course.
11:13Well, I mean, you must have red tape.
11:15You must have red tape.
11:23But you follow?
11:24People should be trusted.
11:25Yes.
11:26And when you see a lot of...
11:28Yes.
11:28People should be trusted.
11:29But unfortunately, that is not the case.
11:31And we are not novice.
11:32We are not naive.
11:32So I want to salute the Commissioner of Prisons.
11:37His whole team, Deputy Commissioner Das, the people came out and supported.
11:42They had to look.
11:44Yes.
11:44They were there.
11:45Yes.
11:45And that is commendable.
11:47So to all those in YTRC, all this endorse, whatever future for you, you have a purpose, and they will
11:53return your mind as MTA+.
11:55I love that.
11:56Yes.
11:56That is the only way to go in now.
11:57If you go at ground zero, the only way to go is up.
12:01That's right.
12:02Right?
12:02So remember, there's always a way out, and there's always a way for you to go up.
12:06Now, we have some information from the TTPS with regards to a media release where four arrested in connection with
12:121.3 million larceny, firearm, and ammunition seized in Central and Western Division.
12:18Now, four men were arrested in connection with a reported larceny of scrap metals valued at approximately $1.3 million,
12:26while a firearm and 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition were seized during separate police operations in the Central and Western
12:35Division.
12:36On Wednesday, 14th October, 2026, at approximately 10 a.m., officers obtained search warrants and proceeded to the main yard
12:44of a welding establishment located along Ali Rahman Road in Calcutta, Freeport.
12:51The officers interviewed and detained several suspects in connection with an outstanding larceny report in the Freeport District involving two
13:00coils of new copper valued at $770,000 and 2.5 tons of copper bars valued at $165,000, one
13:10ton of electrical copper cables valued at $66,000, and 15 pieces of brass bronze valued at $20,000 each.
13:20Meanwhile, officers of the Western Division task force recovered a firearm and 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition during an Operation
13:27Resolute Shield exercised in Cookreet on Thursday, 15th October, 2026.
13:33Between 9.30 p.m. and 11 p.m. officers proceeded east along the Audrey Jeffers Highway in the vicinity
13:41of Main Street, Cookreet, observed a man walking west along the highway with a black bag slung across his chest.
13:49The officers stopped their vehicle and searched the man and the bag. During the search, they allegedly found a firearm
13:56in the center pocket of the bag fitted with a magazine containing 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
14:02The man was arrested and taken to the St. James Police Station along with the items seized.
14:07Corporal?
14:08The West End Police Station and all the divisions must be commended. This country is not for sale. The police
14:15will not mark time. They will not put in no reverse drive. We are citizens of this country.
14:21When you look at police officers, they are family. They live in the community. And therefore, when we keep the
14:26community safe, we are also safe.
14:28And that is one thing that the commissioner has given my mandate to ensure that the police operate and also
14:35build that level of confidence.
14:37And I want to applaud them responding. These people and them are all about distressing you, frustrating your efforts.
14:43And therefore, the police's role is to make sure that people find a sense of peace.
14:48And that report speaks volumes. And we must commend the intelligence. Don't feel that nobody reported.
14:54There are people who reported and people who give the police information and they respond in kind.
14:59And I would personally want to come in. Inspector Perry, excellent. He's in charge of the Western Division and also
15:06Inspector Bassand.
15:07Yes.
15:07Two good officers. They have been very good to the Police Club. I want to salute them and thank them
15:12very much for the excellent work they're doing.
15:14Come to you to be safe. Your families to return to. And by extension, your protection and self-preservation is
15:20paramount.
15:21Yes. Most importantly. Right now, it's time for us to take a look at what's making today's headlines.
15:31All right. My apologies. We need to take that short break. We'll be back.

18:12For the investigations that matter most to TNT, turn to the team you trust.
18:17The TV6 News. We do the work to uncover the facts, ask the important questions, and report on the issues
18:23that impact your community and the nation at large.
18:25This is more than just news. It's accountability, the undisputed number one program in Trinidad and Tobago, delivering the hard
18:32-hitting investigations you rely on.
18:34The TV6 News. Revealing facts, provoking opinions.
18:52And we are back, and you can give us a call at 623-1711, extension 1996-090-97.
18:59We have Corporal Derek Chabidy here with us, and now it's time for us to take a look at what's
19:04making today's headlines.
19:29And we are back, and Corporal, now just a reminder again, remember you all could give us a call.
19:35And the numbers are 623-1711, extension 1996-090-97.
19:40Now we are seeing where we know the special operations is in effect right now.
19:47And we're still not clear on what are the guidelines, districts, and whatever the case may be,
19:51but persons are clearly still being aware of what is taking place.
19:55Now, the officers, when it is they're engaging persons, do they still have to identify themselves just as, like they
20:05usually do with their numbers,
20:06even if they pull up in an unmarked vehicle and not in full uniform?
20:09Yes, it is absolutely compulsory that you identify yourself, because we know what's happening in terms of the criminal element.
20:17Right.
20:17The criminal element is also claiming to be law enforcement officers.
20:21To safeguard themselves, it is important that they identify.
20:25There's a badge.
20:27There's even an ID card.
20:29And they have two forms of ID.
20:31And therefore, the public can challenge the officer for some form of ID, because the criminal element would not have
20:38that.
20:38Yes.
20:38And then you see, we have a very conspicuous badge now, that you will recognize the number, and it's incumbent
20:45to you to take the number, or number so and so.
20:47And the commission is on record, and DCP Benjamin, that if a civilian asks you for your regimental number name,
20:55you have to provide them with that.
20:56Yes.
20:56It is only lawful, it's only respectful, and you have nothing to hide.
21:00So we appeal to police officers and members of the public, that if you engage in a police, and for
21:06some reason you feel it's a bit skewed, this man into looking like law enforcement, you can challenge him, and
21:12you don't have to open, you don't have to entertain any major discussion.
21:16You can inquire for the officer before we start the discussion, can I get your name, please?
21:21Yes.
21:22Can I get your regimental number, please?
21:23You know, and all that is part and parcel of building trust and establishing a good image of the police.
21:29Any officer that you find procrastinating, something is wrong.
21:34He's not following instructions.
21:35No, the reason why I ask that, under this act, they said, you know, an officer with regards to seeing
21:43any sort of suspicious activity, or engaging a person without having the evidence to engage, but it seems something is
21:54not connected.
21:55They still have to identify why they are stopping the individual.
22:00Yes, it requires even before or after, because sometimes based on the nature of the offense, you know, immediately have
22:07to identify, you have to arrest, make an arrest, and then have to say, police here.
22:11It all depends on the matter.
22:13You know, you have to look at each case is unique, and each case brings a different type of approach.
22:20Take a instance, you feel somebody have a gun.
22:21Yes.
22:22You ain't going to identify yourself and say, officer, here, what are you going to have?
22:25Your approach will be different.
22:28You'll have to move in, you know.
22:30So the suspicion is one where they have grounds to stop you.
22:34That's right.
22:35But if, as a civilian, I am now engaging the officer and saying, okay, what was the reason for you
22:40stopping me, and they refuse to respond to why I'm asking you this, and they're saying, listen, I need to
22:46search your vehicle, get out the vehicle, because they have grounds now to do that.
22:50They don't need a warrant, all these things that would have been there to protect the citizens is no longer
22:56there right now under this act.
22:58So even if they don't say anything, and then they proceed now to arrest me because they found something in
23:04the vehicle, and I say, what is the reason for the arrest?
23:07They still have to give why I'm being arrested, correct?
23:10That's right.
23:11There's a difference between arrest and charge.
23:13They arrest you first, and then if you want to go further and find out what this arrest is all
23:17about, it's incumbent on the officer to indicate.
23:20why you are being arrested.
23:22Right.
23:22Yeah, and is there to find some contraband, some illegal activities.
23:26Your name is probably showed up on a warrant.
23:29You need to know.
23:30You need to establish that through a discussion.
23:34If the officer fails, then when you reach a decision, you tell the inspector and the senior officer, this man
23:40has not informed me, told me anything about why I'm being arrested.
23:44Yes.
23:44And the senior officer will then address that.
23:47You will do some intervention and remind you, officer, listen to me.
23:50This is different now.
23:51And the rights of the individual, even if you are arrested, you still have rights now.
23:56Yes, yes.
23:57And that right should not be infringed.
23:59It should not be taken away.
24:00And I think it is important that when officers are paraded and dispatched, go out on duty, they need to
24:08be reminded that through the inspector.
24:09Now, speaking of being dispatched, when, let's say, an officer in the West End is in Central, or some officers
24:15in Central, but their division is in the West, and something happens in Central, and they are there, how does
24:24that work?
24:24Could they, first of all, should they be there?
24:27Yes.
24:27They could have grounds to be in another division?
24:30Yes.
24:31Sometimes you have special units and special, like, task force and units that are assigned, because sometimes the officers in
24:39the station are already well known.
24:41And therefore, you have to bring officers from outside in order to address.
24:45It's a tactical approach.
24:47But you have to get authorization to do that.
24:49Oh, yes.
24:50You can't just show up in another division.
24:52The divisional heads will be informed.
24:54The officer in charge will be aware, and entry remain in the area in terms of your whereabouts, what patrol
25:01are going on, and if you're going on a particular matter.
25:05But these things happen from time to time.
25:07Sometimes I have people in Western Division go out with Central and form an arrest.
25:12It is all in keeping with tactical approach, and sometimes you don't want to give out to the division, because
25:19sometimes you have unfortunately bad actors in the division.
25:21Yes, I like to say that, bad actors.
25:23Yes, and it is imperative that you introduce a level of tactful approach in order to really arrest crime.
25:30All right.
25:31We have a call on the line.
25:33Caller, good evening.
25:34Hello.
25:35Hi, good evening.
25:36Hi, good evening.
25:39Please.
25:41Yes?
25:48You're breaking up, sir.
25:51How about the ironic twist?
25:55Of course, three years.
25:58Sir, you're breaking up badly, and we are not understanding what you're saying.
26:03I'm not sure if your television is on.
26:06If so, if you could take off the volume so we could hear you, please.
26:18All right.
26:18Let's see if we could get him back on.
26:21Caller.
26:24Hello.
26:26Hello.
26:27Hello, Madirian.
26:28Yes.
26:29You could go ahead, sir.
26:30I want to throw you a question to the teachers, the animals, around the county, around the mountain.
26:39The animals.
26:40Do you have to think of the animals?
26:53Yes.
27:00Yes.
27:00Yes.
27:01Yes.
27:01Yes.
27:01Yes.
27:03Yes.
27:05the animal and by extension can ask the owner and fail to do so you know it will
27:12result into a fine and further if the officer on visit realize that there is
27:19no thank you or the area is not well kept and is not providing then you can
27:25make a good case to seize that particular animal so that the law is
27:29absolutely clear if you see some animal that is strained it's imperative that
27:34you reach out probably it's a good thing to take your phone and tip it and it
27:39will reach the vision that's a responsibility to address that yes
27:47because I know sometimes more than likely the owners of these animals if an
27:52incident happens like what we saw some days ago they're not gonna come out and
27:57say the animals because they have to compensate the person's vehicle or
28:02whatever damages the animal cause so everybody hands you know not such any
28:08animals animals are my animal excellent point you know and you'll have to take
28:11somebody saying no no no that is mr. mark animal he's lying yes animals will go
28:16back where they know to go back animals find a way back home and that's what was
28:21happening I think when they were crossing the road to get back they made yes yes
28:27people we just come on you need to care for animals come on yeah oh god man if any
28:33animals provide a service care for them make sure they're well nourished come
28:37people yeah the animals train all over point yourself at risk but you know a lot
28:42of places that were considered rural in Trinidad in particular is no longer rural
28:47that's right it is now transforming into a busy either commercial space or
28:52residential space it's no longer rural so a lot of the things that may have
28:56worsened to have that rural um space that still be in those pockets that's
29:02right challenging not yeah it's not it's not like what it used to be happy um traffic
29:06you're seeing a lot of activities happening buildings homes businesses
29:11apartments going up going up so you know you need the animals that are custom
29:16rooming and crossing the same roads that we are on now crossing that was there well
29:21land at a point in time I have to say yeah and you know if you're seeing an area developing
29:26then you need to relocate and find somewhere suitable for your animals because you're seeing
29:31that are your resident in that area I think buildings going up you're seeing you know
29:35things taking place so it's incumbent on you still yeah just I mean first of all it's not
29:42free because I know that could be something to be difficult for you to handle when it comes to your
29:49finances to have um the area cordon off for you to protect your animals and obviously protect your
29:55property that's a fear that we state not paying for that and it's in your interest if you do that
29:59it's helpful you know and then you also claiming that geographically this is yours yes so that when
30:05you put fence and you don't have elements and you don't have all the years coming to so that is
30:11absolutely
30:11excellent um I want to tell you caller can thank you very much yeah we have a call caller good
30:16evening
30:19hello hello hi good evening hi good evening how are you doing I'm alright how are you I'm okay were
30:28you out today and I don't think there's any law to prevent and reasonable drivers from parking in front of
30:33your driveway
30:36okay what area is this mom she's gone all right we want to the part of the area
30:44parking in front of someone yes once you depriving the person of free flow of traffic and not entering
30:50your home yes because that get a vehicle wrecked that's right and the regional corporation normally
30:56handle that but worst case scenario the um the divisional head I think that I think that I don't
31:02know if it's the same lady but she did send some photos yes and I I did forward it to
31:07one of my
31:08colleagues in Separia who had agreed to look into it so I'm asking that if you give me a call
31:14um probably
31:15this is the next case but I can remember clearly somebody sent me photos yes and saying officer this
31:21is too much for me I don't get myself in trouble and I did for it all my colleagues so
31:25look into it so
31:25mom if it's the same person feel free to call me so I can get in touch with the sergeant
31:30to see if any
31:31thing was done in touch or senior um that unfortunate situation in front of whom yeah
31:38we have another cold caller good evening hello hello hi how are you
31:45yeah okay so you're breaking up so I'm not sure if your volume is on so we're getting feedback okay
32:09all
32:10right yeah yeah yes a little better right the coroner's calling about the same animals like
32:19that's broken about yeah by clarini and talking about that are going on imagine the police is
32:26sparked with their people when it's causing them and they go through so therefore the police
32:34know what's going on and then he's taking it out all the seniors to pretend and police told that
32:43what's happening to that so just listen and he's saying that total rubbish they've seen it they've seen
32:51it we've seen it and they've done nothing about it do nothing oh god man come on let's have all
32:58it go away or they're doing nothing nothing nothing come on come back okay um well he was breaking up
33:07I
33:07think he's speaking of the situation in the currently area with the animals that are constantly on the
33:15roadways and the police officers in that area they are aware and they're not doing what they need to to
33:20make sure that this does not continue happening again but what what can the ctps do why why they're not
33:26doing any well again it is the public to police the police and if you have information you have a
33:33vehicle number and you can bring that to the inspector in charge where I sit I I am not in
33:38charge of that particular division I can only guide you give you information yes so if you know officers
33:43are complacent they see any animals passing they're doing absolutely nothing you point your phone you go
33:48and talk to the inspector and say this is unbecoming of a police officer you don't know if you if
33:53you're
33:54clipping that I as an officer is doing that and fine then you I'm a comfortable but if you're making
33:59a case on public TV and you would like to get advice I'm asking members of the public to take
34:05it to the
34:06inspector take it that's right um if you have a phone that you could show the complacency the vehicles
34:13officers passing showing a level of negligence that too will do justice so I appeal to members of the
34:18public one way the police get act together is when the public police the police all right so I hope
34:25that helps you all we will take your calls and more after this break we'll be back as a teacher
34:30teaching
34:31how many years I never see it on a subject called bullying unattainable yet but all them children want

34:57grannies you see aunties you see nennies all of them and all you all you have to help out too
35:02all you have to teach them the right way boy they have to choose peace not physical and verbal violence

38:42And we are back, and remember, you could give us a call
38:45at 623-17-11 and extension 90-97.
38:50Now, I want to say this.
38:52You all have the opportunity as well this evening,
38:54especially this evening,
38:55that you could highlight things in your community
38:57that you want the public to be aware of.
39:00And, of course, we have the TTPS,
39:02which is where we are making it very clear to the TTPS
39:05that they will know.
39:06You know, some of the concerns,
39:07you don't need to call out business name or anybody's name.
39:10Things that you want to bring to the forefront
39:12that needs to be known.
39:14You have the opportunity to give us that call
39:16and discuss it here this evening with Corporal Shabby.
39:20And as best as we could guide the public
39:22as we relate to the TTPS, all right?
39:25That's right.
39:25And when it comes to criminal activities,
39:29criminal activities,
39:31please stay away from all the other personal things,
39:34criminal activities alone, all right?
39:37Thank you very much for being that.
39:39Yes, just be stressing on that.
39:40So, speaking of that, according to the Daily Express,
39:43and we saw that in one of the headlines,
39:45that we had this evening,
39:47gunmen tied up mother and son and steel truck.
39:50Now, a 54-year-old woman and her 20-year-old son
39:54were bound with duct tape and cable ties
39:58during a home invasion,
40:00and this is in the Mayaro area on Monday night.
40:02Now, the incident occurred around 10 p.m.
40:05The woman who was at her home watching television
40:08with her son told police she saw the front door open
40:12and two men entered the living room.
40:14Both appeared to be armed with guns
40:16and one was masked.
40:18Now, the suspects bound the two occupants
40:21before demanding the vehicle keys
40:23to a white Toyota Hilux pickup parked in the garage.
40:27The woman went to her bedroom and handed over the keys.
40:30Now, the suspects then fled in the pickup,
40:33which belonged to the woman's nephew
40:35and had been left in her care
40:37while he was working in Mexico.
40:41After freeing themselves,
40:42the woman and her son went to a neighbor's home
40:45and contacted the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department.
40:49An all-points bulletin was issued
40:51and officers of the Manzanilla police force were alerted.
40:56So, again, anyone with information,
40:58we ask that you can contact 555-999 or 800-TIPS.
41:04If you see something, say something.
41:06Yes, say something.
41:07If you have a camera close by,
41:09not too far from where there's unfortunate development,
41:13thank God that life was spared.
41:15You always hear about people getting gone down
41:18and, you know, and the life was taken.
41:20When your life was spared,
41:22it is, you know, thank God for that.
41:23You thank God for that.
41:24Yeah, and the woman was...
41:25Mother, most of the flea.
41:26And I have to applaud the lady.
41:28She did not put herself in any undue situations,
41:31the aggravated situation.
41:32Take care.
41:33You know, your life is more important than your vehicle.
41:36It's unfortunate.
41:36They're taking a vehicle, but your life is important.
41:39It's still here.
41:40Yes, and the life of your son.
41:41Because it's about your vehicle.
41:41And she must be commended.
41:43And that part of the article must remain
41:46and rebound on the minds of the person.
41:48People come.
41:50You want to take your jury, brother.
41:51You want to go ahead and take it.
41:52My life is being spared.
41:54Other than that, if you have cameras,
41:57you have an excellent neighborhood watch group,
41:58you have a WhatsApp group,
42:00all those things are very helpful now
42:02in the fight against crime.
42:04It's imperative that we encourage people to do that.
42:06Now, in another story here that we're seeing,
42:09a man robbed of $50,000 after leaving Diggle Bank.
42:13And this is really sad once again.
42:15Now, a 49-year-old man was robbed of $50,000
42:18after being struck at the back of the head of two men
42:21as he walked to his vehicle after leaving a bank
42:25in Diggle Martin on Monday.
42:27Now, Corporal, what could prisons do?
42:29Because this is something where we all go to the bank.
42:33We all conduct business.
42:35And we want to get to leave the bank safely.
42:38But what could be done?
42:40I think you need to do some more business with cashless.
42:44You need to do more transaction in terms of transferring money
42:47to one thing that will minimize.
42:50Now, I don't know why the gentleman withdrew.
42:52I do have the facts.
42:53But the fact that they chose him,
42:56they had knowledge.
42:57Yes.
42:58And more than that,
42:59they were able to use...
43:01You see, crime is about opportunity.
43:03Yes.
43:03And therefore, if you make yourself a...
43:05Target.
43:06A soft target.
43:08That's right.
43:08I am going out.
43:09I am withdrawing $50,000.
43:11Even me as a law enforcement officer,
43:14my behavior will be different.
43:16You're telling me?
43:17I don't even want that.
43:17My behavior.
43:19I'm sorry.
43:20That's right.
43:20I'll be like, you can just transfer this
43:22because this is not making sense to me.
43:23That is my rule too.
43:24I'll be on easy.
43:25I don't think it is why he's moving.
43:27You need to establish a new style
43:29of transferring money to...
43:31And at this point, in 2026,
43:34if you all are conducting business
43:35and the people that you all have to pay
43:37saying they don't have a bank account,
43:39make sure they get one.
43:40Please.
43:40Please.
43:41In 2026, we need to get...
43:44And the financial institutions,
43:45because you want to make it a little bit easier as well
43:47for persons just to open a bank account,
43:50just to open the account
43:51so money could be channeled there.
43:53And all that is common sense.
43:57All that is self-preservation.
43:58All these people won't just open an account.
43:59Yes.
43:59All these people won't.
44:00And in 2026...
44:02And you were drawing $50,000.
44:03People had seen it.
44:04Yeah.
44:05I stand up in line and you're seeing people
44:07and then the casual acts said,
44:09do you want it?
44:09Do you like an envelope?
44:10And you're seeing the money.
44:12It is not hidden.
44:13It is not inconspicuous.
44:15In any way.
44:15It's not in a room.
44:16So we need to address that.
44:17And I'm telling you personally,
44:19I am not going to enjoy $50,000.
44:22I am going to transfer it.
44:24Yeah, yeah, yeah.
44:24Yeah.
44:25Times are different now.
44:26And it is important that you utilize and maximize
44:29these services provided by the bank
44:31full out of form.
44:33Get your act together.
44:34It will work in your interest.
44:35Yes.
44:35And it will protect your life,
44:37most importantly.
44:38We need to take that short break.
44:39We'll be back.
44:40Mommy.
44:41Kevin, girl.
44:43Trouble.
44:44I'm telling you.
44:45You remember your bigger one
44:47that you didn't send you a few years ago?
44:48Cohen.
44:49Mommy.
44:50I don't know what to say again, you know.
44:52When Kevin was in form one,
44:54he was nice to bad potential like that, mommy.
44:58He reached form two.
44:59He started gamble.
45:01He started a cuss.
45:03He taxing people, cheering.
45:04Kevin, getting into us at a wrong crowd, mommy.
45:08Kevin, you feel me?
45:10I know you're selling marijuana on the school compound.
45:13What trouble is that?
45:14You want to end up in Aruka, in Golden Grove.
45:17You go ahead.
45:18Go ahead.
45:19But that would not be your story, sir.
45:21That is not your story.
45:23No matter how much detention
45:25and how much community service I think you're getting,
45:28you have to change.

49:20And we are back and remember you can give us a call at 623-1711 extension 1997 and of course
49:27we have Corporal Derek Chabody here with us who is filling in for ASP Russell. You know where ASP Russell
49:33is?
49:34Well I had a discussion with Mr. Russell. Yes sir and he was kind enough to tell me he'll be
49:38bringing back some bennie balls and certain sugar cake. I said Mr. Russell enough respect blessings. He was in a
49:45big meeting.
49:45That's the hard work that you did this week. Yeah I mean they say I tell you I just wear
49:50size 9th and I think he's 11th so you can appreciate the fact. I can't feel it now that it
49:56is wishful to take him.
49:57Yes they still feel it in. But I thank Mr. Russell for really allowing me the opportunity. More than that
50:04I think that the fact that they are going to Tobago it speaks volumes.
50:07That is not about Trinidad again. That when an executive team HR communication department the commissioner it tells you that
50:15they want to make sure Trinidad and Tobago is a safe place.
50:18I know that there has been a lot of migrating with the gunmen and the gangsters. They feel they can
50:23run Tobago and you know.
50:25Tobago not going through that. No no. We want to warn them. We want to tell them listen you're wasting
50:30time going to Tobago. Tobago is a beautiful place.
50:33This country is not for sale. Both Trinidad and Tobago. You might as well just drop the gun and do
50:38something that is constructive because we'll pick up with you.
50:41And one thing with Tobago Tobago is very close. Everybody knows everybody. And it is unfortunate that you feel you
50:49can go Tobago and migrate and set up business. That is not the case. The level of intelligence and people
50:55in Tobago is different.
50:56No they are very different and as I'm saying they made it clear when they saw certain things happening in
51:01different communities in Tobago.
51:03Yes. They let them know we're not going through that. But I'm hoping that you know that that culture of
51:09when we you know we see something say something that you all have been pushing to big unions they do
51:15that because they don't want their community to be destroyed.
51:18And they must be applauded.
51:19Yeah and they're clearly not fearful of the criminal elements because they're letting let me know we outnumber you all.
51:23But it seems like in Trinidad we are still very fearful because these individuals are showing up at your home
51:29you know.
51:29They are letting you know you we found out you talked so we come in for you. And you can't
51:34get so many citizens wrong because of that fear.
51:37And again thank you very much. So each case must be dealt with in its merit. And so while Trinidad
51:43unfortunately people are very skeptical you need to put systems in place that you wouldn't identify.
51:50And that's why we are 555. And that's why we are 555. We are people calling. There's no need to
51:53give your name, your number and where you live. We understand that. In Tobago they're saying there's a stranger in
52:01battle right now.
52:01Who is that? Who is that? Who is that? And they don't call. Well you know they know the officer
52:08by the personnel.
52:10Yes. It's not PCO. It's not Sergeant. Call Rodney. Yeah. Call Rodney. Rodney if there's a man in battle right
52:19now we don't know who they come in.
52:21That's right. That's right. Who is this person? We need to take a page out of Tobago.
52:26Yeah. And I want to continue to encourage people from Tobago. This beautiful island that international tourist people from all
52:34over the world come.
52:35Let the criminal element know the country is not for sale. If you see something say something.
52:40Yes. All right. And we don't. One. I mean there's some people talking about. There's only three murders.
52:45Mm-mm. That's too many. Once upon a time there was absolutely none. No. Yeah.
52:48And we need to go back to nil. So I want to thank the commissioner, Mr. Russell, the whole, you
52:53know, the executive officers, big high profile team that went down to sit with the chief secretary to discuss.
53:00Yes. Yes. How do we address crime fighting from both a proactive, well both primary and secondary of course.
53:07Mm-hmm. Right. And it is a step in the right direction. I know that because of the tourism they
53:12want to police officers to behave different than that kind of stuff.
53:15Yes. It's a different way of policing when you have, you know, a country or in this case other parts
53:21of our country that is driven by tourism.
53:23Yes.
53:24You can't deal with them like how you'll deal with your locals, sorry to say. When you're supposed to deal
53:29with us across the board a certain way, you still have to be mindful because you want these same people
53:34to come back into your country
53:36and spend money and bring foreign currency and feel comfortable, feel safe.
53:40My husband, I kid you not, we go to Tobago. I enjoy Tobago.
53:43Oh, what's Tobago's sweet?
53:44Yeah, the people open the doors, you know. They treat you club very well when we go over there. You
53:49know, we are really, really, very fortunate to have a beautiful place like Tobago.
53:54You know, sometimes you're poking in too deep to go certain places. You follow?
53:59Yes, yes.
53:59And you can go to Tobago and experience just as much and even more and better in terms of the
54:05scenery and the love, the food and the people.
54:08So, Tobagoans, we want to send love to you on behalf of you on the tape and, you know, continue
54:15doing what you're doing.
54:16You know, put on the fight and let them know that the criminal elements, whether they migrated or not, they're
54:21not part and parcel of the community.
54:24So, continue to support and keep it constructive. Blessings, people.
54:27Yes, we have a caller, though. Caller, good evening.
54:34Caller, good evening.
54:37Hi, good evening.
54:38How are you?
54:40Yes, sir, you're live.
54:42I, um, I, I just joined, so, um, forgive me, but not really, I just need to ask a question.
54:51And I probably could be off the topic.
54:53But that is, uh, I'm curious to know why does the police have their lights on at night, but they've
54:59got it up to them on that basis, you know, for the streets, of course.
55:04Okay. So, yeah, just to repeat, I want you to ask, because we're not hearing you properly, why the police
55:09have their police lights on at night?
55:12When, when, on patrol?
55:16Yeah, when they, when they're, when they're driving up along the highway or the street, so, why, why are they
55:21lights open?
55:22Okay. Okay. All right.
55:25Corporal, I can answer that.
55:26Yeah, there are many factors.
55:28The police lights is a form of deterrent.
55:31Two, people from a distance will see that police is coming, and it will be of assistance.
55:37And two, people want to feel a sense of safety.
55:39Okay.
55:40And therefore, when you drive and you illuminate and you put on the lights, the law-abiding citizens feel a
55:45sense of safety.
55:46The criminal elements, however, would want to feel differently.
55:49So, the lights are as usual.
55:51Sometimes you take it off to be a little inconspicuous.
55:53Yes.
55:54If you...
55:54According to the situation.
55:55Thank you very much.
55:56And therefore, they're sometimes instructed by the inspector in charge that the lights must be placed.
56:03And sometimes, you know, for only full, you're very, you know, you're going to be very casual in terms of
56:08the amount.
56:09Because the vehicles we have now, I'm telling you, you know, it explodes in some light.
56:14So, there are factors, and I trust that people should feel a sense of safety when the city police are
56:19in control.
56:20Yes.
56:20Now, we have a developing story that we just received a few minutes ago.
56:25And, of course, you will find out more in the 7 p.m. news, where two women were found dead
56:30in a house fire in the Malik area.
56:32And this is an ongoing story.
56:34So, this is just, you know, from information, nor receiving that information.
56:38Of course, we will keep you all up to date with what is taking place here.
56:41Wow.
56:42And what was the cause of the death of these two women.
56:45Condolences.
56:46Please.
56:46Immediately to the families.
56:49Just when a life has been lost is never easy.
56:52A mother, an aunt.
56:54Yes.
56:55You know, a grandmother, somebody's child.
56:57So, it's very unfortunate.
56:58Yeah, we don't know.
56:59We don't know.
57:00And, of course, we will keep you all in the know of things as we proceed.
57:04Corporal, we like to say thank you so much, first of all, for taking the time to be with me
57:08this week.
57:09And filling it.
57:09I know you're always willing once you're not busy.
57:11Last week and this week, by the way.
57:13It was indeed an absolute honor.
57:14Yes.
57:15And we had coffee and so on.
57:16Yes, yes, yes.
57:16So, I know when I come here, I'm well-treated.
57:18And loved.
57:18Yeah.
57:19Jackie, love in the house.
57:20Yes.
57:20She wrote the red carpet for me.
57:21So, I'm always honored.
57:23And to Miss Archie, thank you very much, ma'am.
57:25And I just want to salute all those who took part in the YTRC.
57:28Yes.
57:29Miss Sargent Ali and the whole spy team.
57:32It was a beautiful session.
57:33Loving the house.
57:34Corporal Shabadi, thank you so much.
57:36Have a safe, blessed, and enjoyable weekend.
57:38And same goes to all of you.
