Severe storms pushing through the mid-Atlantic and Northeast led to wind damage in multiple areas on Oct. 16.
Transcript
00:00The tree fell on a home near Woodward, Pennsylvania here not far from Clearfield and Phillipsburg
00:06as storms rolled through earlier this afternoon.
00:09Heavy rain, strong winds had shoppers running for cover in Belfont, PA as well.
00:14There goes an abandoned cart moving on its own.
00:17So we continue to track the severe risk and there are several severe thunderstorm warnings
00:21that continue to accompany these storms into North Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania,
00:26and parts of the lower Hudson Valley.
00:28Nasty storm barreling eastbound along Interstate 84 through Newburgh, New York,
00:32through the beautiful Hudson Valley.
00:34And as we look at some of the recent reports here, we've been tracking these as they roll east.
00:38So into Berks County Fleetwood, wires down near Houck Road and Memorial Highway.
00:44Into Leesport in Berks County, wires across Keys and West Main into other areas,
00:49a little bit barely northwest of there, up into other areas near I-78.
00:53Burnville, PA, a tree at the intersection of Summer Mountain Road and Groff.
00:57Up into Schuylkill Haven, into Schuylkill County, two trees down and wires down as well.
01:02Up into the Poconos, we were looking at a transformer fire report earlier.
01:07Lake Mead, PA, in New York, tree down, wires down, and into Fremont as well.
01:12There was a report earlier today of a tree onto a home.
01:15Here it was in Eastern Center County in Weikert.
01:18Tree onto a house, separate from the tree onto the house that Bill Waddell documented there.
01:22He had the drone up over Julianne, PA, and then zipped out to the area near Woodford,
01:28or Woodland, I should say, with that other report.
01:31Also, we had a tree down across the road, and a truck drove into it in Armstrong County.
01:36No injuries reported, thankfully.
01:38So we continue to track this wind setup here.
01:42Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Western Connecticut, look out.
01:45Nasty setup here for severe winds.
01:47A strong, cold front is coming.
01:49Technically, there's another front behind this.
01:51These fronts sometimes operate in pulses with a primary one and then a secondary front to follow,
01:57and they're going to cool you down in a big way.
02:00So the severe thunderstorm watches, here we are with the one that has been in effect for much of the
02:05day
02:05and about much of the afternoon, and half of that has been expired.
02:09But from the southern Poconos down through the Lehigh Valley and all the way down to D.C. and Baltimore,
02:14that's in effect until 8 o'clock.
02:16The more recently issued watch that's been with us now for about two hours,
02:20in effect for western Connecticut, southern parts of New York State, all of New Jersey, all of Delaware,
02:25the eastern shore of Maryland until 10 p.m.
02:27Wind is the main concern here, damaging wind, eastern PA, New Jersey, southern New York State,
02:32along the lower part of the Hudson, that's where we have the biggest concern.
02:36We also still have a reference to isolated tornadoes in our forecast, not likely, but isolated possible.
02:43Look at that before the storms hit, though, and Belfont, just beautiful, beautiful fall foliage in Belfont, PA,
02:48the county seat of Center County.
02:50And the damaging wind is the big concern here.
02:52We had some wind damage in the Belfont area, a couple of trees down,
02:55generally within maybe 10 miles of town.
02:57But now the worst of it is going to be east of there, pooling through the shore and offshore.
03:02And we've had wet flakes in Caribou, Maine earlier this week.
03:05We may see a few more in the high ground of the New England states and even near the PA
03:09-New York line late tonight,
03:10with a brief shower of rain or snow mixed.
03:13And then look at this.
03:15Offshore, low pressure spins up, coastal rain, and we're going to have that onshore wind lead to coastal flooding, too.
03:22But tomorrow night, Saturday night to Sunday morning, freeze watches in effect for much of the interior northeast.
03:28Tonight is Friday night's the night when the interior, the plains, and the upper Midwest will face a freeze.
03:34And again, behind the front, it's just going to take about 24 hours for the truly cold air to roll
03:39in.
03:39So our colder night will be Saturday night to Sunday morning here in the northeast.
03:45And Saturday's going to be a blustery, much colder day, the coldest day we've had so far this season.
03:49Looking at a comparison between the AccuWeather real field temperatures back on Tuesday compared to tomorrow.
03:54Cleveland, we were at 86 Tuesday, 51 Saturday.
03:58Buffalo, it'll feel like 48 in the afternoon after feeling like 78 degrees back on Tuesday.
04:03Sunday, a beautiful, bright day.
04:05A little cool, though.
04:06We did bump our highs up to the mid to upper 50s in New England for the New York game
04:11at Foxborough.
