00:01Police detained several young protesters and student leaders,
00:05including prominent student activist Neha Bora and Cockroach Movement founder Abhijit Dipke,
00:12as hundreds gathered in Central Delhi on Friday to demand the resignation of India's chief election commissioner.
00:19According to India Today and NDTV, Dipke was placed under preventive arrest.
00:24The government is scared that the protest is going to get bigger and bigger day by day.
00:30So they are picking up the leaders, they are picking up Neha Bora, they are picking up Abhijit Dipke.
00:34They don't want people to come out in huge numbers.
00:38But people are anyway coming out, so there is no use of detaining them.
00:42They will come back again tomorrow, just like us.
00:44We have been coming here for, I think, almost 10 days now.
00:47We have been coming every day, so there is no use of detaining anyone.
00:53If the people want someone to resign in the government, they need to resign, man.
00:57And if the people think the government is doing wrong, they are doing wrong, then we need to change.
01:01We demand change. We demand peace. We demand freedom.
01:04And most importantly, we demand democracy, which is what this country was built on, you know.
01:08Protest is the fundamental of democracy. It is the fundamental tenet of democracy.
01:19The Cockroach Janta Party, CJP, opposition groups and student organizations have staged near-daily protests this month,
01:28demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over a revision of voter lists
01:34that they allege favors Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP.
01:40More than 130 million voters were deleted during the revision.
01:45The Election Commission has denied favoring any political party and said voters who were wrongly removed from the lists could
01:52re-enroll.
01:53The BJP has accused its rivals of undermining democracy by questioning legitimate electoral processes.
02:00Security was tightened around Central Park in Connaught Place, a busy shopping and dining district in New Delhi,
02:08with hundreds of police personnel in riot gear deployed across Central Delhi.
02:13Despite the heightened security, hundreds of protesters gathered in groups at about half a dozen locations around Central Park,
02:20waving the national flag and shouting slogans.
02:23A close question of a few of their own talents.
02:28This is a change for the highest level of organization.
02:29We can't wait.
