00:00In an interview with Telesur, British lawmaker Jeremy Colvin pointed out that social media
00:05algorithms can interfere in elections by favouring certain information.
00:11In this regard, he referred to the case of the general elections in Brazil and the spread
00:15of misinformation and lies targeting Lula da Silva.
00:21Particularly people under 40 get all their information from their phone, from social
00:27media, from TikTok, from Facebook, from all those outlets.
00:34It is very easy for the owners of those outlets to establish an algorithm which directs attention
00:42towards a message or to take it away from a message.
00:47What we are now seeing everywhere around the world is a massive interference in elections
00:52by very wealthy companies that can direct people into certain information, certain news
00:59and so on.
01:00And I remember on the day before the voting in the last Brazilian election, the most outrageous
01:08stories suddenly appeared about Lula.
01:12They were completely wrong, all of them were dishonest, they were lies.
01:18But they got there the day before the election, too late to respond to.
01:22That's how it works.
01:24And so I've been talking to delegates from Brazil here today who tell me that there are massive
01:30attempts going on to try and ensure that the message against Lula is very strong.
01:37And so my message to our friends is beware of what you see on social media.
01:44British lawmaker Jeremy Corbin stressed the need to challenge the US security strategy that
01:49enables interventionism and advocating for a multiple award holder and respect for international
01:55law.
01:57That national security strategy essentially gives the US the right to intervene anywhere.
02:02That has to be challenged.
02:04And in a multipolar world where you have huge economic power held by the USA, by China, by
02:12the European Union, by India, by Russia and so on, there has to be a recognition that the
02:17BRICS nations are an important factor in all of this.
02:20That we cannot just go on having a unipolar world dominated by the USA.
02:26And so I'm looking forward to a more diverse political structure in the world and I think
02:32we could start by reforming the United Nations away from the 1945 settlement into something
02:38that is more representative of people in Africa, Asia and all across the world.
02:47I think reforming the UN is important, but I also think that if we don't understand or
02:53accept the need for international law, then where do we go?
02:57Do we just say might is right and the most powerful nation will invade the weakest nation and control
03:04it?
03:04It's a recipe for war and arms spending and the waste of resources.
03:10I donate the nations.
