00:02Bursts of colour now permanently within the Perth Observatory.
00:06Nestled amongst the Perth Hills, this new sculpture park will feature more than 60 outdoor
00:11and 40 indoor sculptures.
00:13The park's founders say it comes at a vital time for artists.
00:17There's wonderful exhibitions in and around Australia, but we wanted something permanent
00:22by artists, for artists.
00:23This is all about STEM, you know, science, but there's a lot of STEM and science that
00:27goes into making artwork.
00:28As the sculptures are sold, the pieces will rotate, meaning the exhibition will be continuously
00:34evolving.
00:35We can activate the space and that way people who come to visit at any season of the year
00:40will have something different to see.
00:41The sculpture park includes works by international artists, but the majority have been made by
00:45WA sculptors, like this one by Fremantle's Gina Lee.
00:49Local artists say the park provides an important opportunity to permanently showcase their work.
00:54Over east you have a lot more opportunities, so there's a lot more sculpture exhibitions,
00:58so to have more of a large scale works.
01:02Yeah, it means a lot for the local and also then bringing in the interstate international
01:06artists.
01:07It gives us also that, I don't want to say competitive edge, but you know, it pushes you to go
01:12further
01:12with your work as well.
01:14Observatory volunteers hope the sculpture park will draw new people into the world of astronomy.
01:18The hope is that I guess we've got something which will attract a new generation or a new
01:23audience to Perth Observatory that is complementary.
01:27A collision of art and science inspiring creation and curiosity.
