00:00I've played two whole hours of the new Ocarina of Time remake, and here are three reasons I think it's
00:05set to be the remake to define all remakes.
00:08Number one, the art style isn't as bad as you haters think.
00:11Sure, the maximalism is a little ostentatious at first glance, but when you're actually sat down playing the game,
00:17the whimsical locations around Hyrule feel immersive and otherworldly.
00:21Temples are far more varied and dynamic, textures are naturally more detailed, and characters are much more expressive.
00:27Even the typically stoic Link managed to tug at my heartstrings as he made his departure from Kukiri Village.
00:32I've made a whole video talking about my feelings on the art style, so head over to our profile to
00:36see my full rundown.
00:38Next up, number two, is that everything feels bigger, brighter, and more full of life.
00:42A brief 15-minute run through Hyrule Field wasn't enough to confirm if it's a one-to-one match for
00:46the original scale-wise,
00:48but richer textures, lively wildlife, and a packed horizon gave it a far grander sense of scale.
00:53Who needs an open world like Breath of the Wild when you've got a view like this?
00:57Plus, with free camera movement, exploring and discovering new things around Hyrule feels more fun and fluid than ever.
01:03Beyond the scale of things, there's also just a lot more to see and do.
01:06Some NPCs, like the Potion Shopkeeper in Hyrule Castle Town, play a more active role,
01:11and extended dialogue for existing characters like the twin jugglers, who we still never see juggling,
01:16means even devoted fans of the N64 and 3DS versions will have plenty new to explore.
01:22And that's before you get to new features like fairy messages and the threads of time.
01:26Lastly, the temples and various locations around Hyrule have been tweaked and re-optimized,
01:31and that's presumably in part to compensate for the fact that Link can now jump and dash.
01:35In the Falling Ceilings segment of Adult Link's Forest Temple,
01:38railings now surround all of the safe spots, so you can't just run over the top.
01:41Now, while I didn't get to try any other temples and puzzles, it's pretty safe to assume they'll have all
01:46received the same treatment.
01:48Naturally, old niggles, such as fiddly hitboxes, will feel much cleaner in the remake,
01:52and I'd also imagine older exploits have been neatened out,
01:55though I'm sure we'll see someone figure out a whole new Infinite Sword glitch within 24 hours of release.
01:59From what I've seen so far, the Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time has all the makings of a
02:04near-perfect remake.
02:06It's faithful where it needs to be to the source material,
02:08but introduces new features and richness to the world that bring it up to speed with the modern gamer's expectations.
02:14All this while still paying dues to one of the best Legend of Zelda games of all time.
