00:02Prosecutors say the attack happened during a home break-in in the early hours of the 21st of February last
00:09year.
00:09All of the prosecution's evidence was heard behind closed doors.
00:13The content considered so sensitive it was heard by the judge only.
00:18The accused was aged 16 at the time and is alleged to have held a man at knife point at
00:23a Manunda home,
00:24while his two co-accused raped the man's partner in another room.
00:28Prosecutor Nicole Friedewald told the court the teenager detained the man in the bedroom by using that knife.
00:34He told him to keep his eyes down and he continued scraping of his thumb along the blade of the
00:39knife,
00:40telling the man, don't worry, we won't be too long.
00:43The court heard the boy told police he didn't know the woman was being raped,
00:47but prosecutors allege he heard one of the other boys tell the woman he intended to rape her.
00:53He told police he did not try and stop anything.
00:56This defendant remains criminally liable for the conduct of his co-offenders.
01:01The teen's lawyer told the court his client didn't know what was happening in the other room.
01:07You've heard about words spoken in the bedroom.
01:09The issue there that will arise is whether the defendant heard and understood those words.
01:14The accused has pleaded guilty to the break-in, but not guilty to five charges of rape.
01:20The judge will need to decide whether his involvement makes him guilty of rape,
01:24or whether, as the defence argues, he didn't know what his co-accused were doing.
01:29The trial is expected to last for two days.
