00:00Sal Capaccio joining us on the Western Hotline.
00:02Good morning, everybody.
00:03Happy Tuesday.
00:05Bill's Victory Tuesday, we're calling it, Sal.
00:07Post-travel Tuesday.
00:08When did you come back?
00:09Did you come back Sunday or Monday, Sal?
00:11When did you get back?
00:12Late last night.
00:13I didn't even that late, but last night.
00:15Yeah, same.
00:16Same.
00:16In time to watch the baseball game?
00:19I did.
00:19I watched both the baseball and the football game last night.
00:22So, yeah, I think I was in the house by 8 o'clock, so not that late.
00:26I was able to do both.
00:28The flight I was on was direct.
00:30And it was just all Bill's fans, basically, coming from Vegas back to Buffalo.
00:34Yeah, I believe it.
00:35I had flights to Charlotte and then into Buffalo.
00:39And basically, when the Charlotte flight lands, everybody goes and the entire plane gets and goes to the next plane.
00:43It was a mass of Bill's fans returning back.
00:48Let's get there, Sal.
00:49I asked you going into the week what the score to beat would be for a Bill's fan takeover of
00:56a stadium.
00:56Is the answer to that question now Vegas?
01:00Yes.
01:02It is.
01:04It's always something we kind of, you know, you try to pinpoint.
01:08It's such an exact science.
01:09What's the percentage of Bill's fans that were there?
01:11I don't know.
01:12When you're talking about Carolina, Miami, Nashville.
01:16Man, to me, 35%, 40%.
01:18It's kind of crazy.
01:18That's massive.
01:20I really believe for the first time this might have been over 50%.
01:22That's my take.
01:23What do you think?
01:24Are you with me on that?
01:25I do.
01:26Yeah, I think so.
01:27It's tough to know.
01:28But, yeah, if you were just a stranger walking in, you might have thought it was a bowl game between
01:34two teams.
01:35Or whatever.
01:36A neutral site kind of game.
01:37Like a London game or something like that.
01:39So, yeah.
01:40A big time takeover.
01:42And I thought the Raiders fans were nice.
01:44Like, it was a – Sal, I always think games like that make for a good atmosphere because you got
01:48both sides cheering and you had a competitive game.
01:51So, you know, I think I was telling Joe on the way out, I was talking with a Raider fan
01:54who kind of took heart in the loss that they're starting to get better.
01:58It's not the same old Raiders.
02:00And I found myself agreeing with them that, you know, they look like they've got some punch.
02:04I agree.
02:05I agree.
02:05And I know that, like, it's still got some of the Raider mystique, but it's not like it was in
02:09Oakland, right?
02:10It's not that reputation and atmosphere.
02:14And I've been to Oakland a couple times in the black hole.
02:17And the stadium is beautiful.
02:19I'm sure you've talked about that.
02:20But they're a very good fan base.
02:23They really are.
02:24And they're a national brand.
02:26No matter where you go, there's Raiders fans everywhere.
02:28But I agree with you.
02:29Most of my interactions with Raider fans were very good.
02:33And people who are thinking, you know what?
02:35But we're just kind of waiting for that big present under the tree in Mendoza to see what we got
02:40here.
02:41But it's not time yet.
02:42Yeah.
02:42Has the Raider fan base gotten milder maybe also?
02:45Like, would it have been as friendly, I guess, if the Bills fans took over Oakland and they were still
02:50there?
02:51No, no.
02:52Definitely different.
02:52Definitely a different atmosphere.
02:53Definitely a different reputation, I think, now than, you know, we've seen it with these stadiums.
02:59You know, we see a little bit with ours.
03:00It's a bit of a different clientele every time you move into a new fancy stadium that costs a lot
03:05of money.
03:06Right?
03:06And I think that's what they're experiencing there as well.
03:09And by the way, like, I just, I thought the stadium was amazing.
03:12Walked around it maybe a little before the fans came in when we were there with the media.
03:17And just got to see some of the things, just like I tell people, guys, when you go to a
03:23game at Highmark, take time to walk around.
03:25Go to the concourse.
03:26Walk around the stadium.
03:27Learn all the things about it.
03:28I tried to do that with a lot of the way that they honor their legends and the artwork and
03:32everything else at that stadium.
03:34It was pretty incredible.
03:34Yeah.
03:35I think one thing I would take away from it is it's a Raiders stadium.
03:38Like, that's, you know, the Bills said they wanted their stadium to be the Buffalo Bills stadium and feel like
03:43a Bills stadium.
03:44And the Raiders stadium has that.
03:45All silver and black everywhere.
03:47And the Al Davis torch is super cool.
03:51So, yeah, enjoyed it very much.
03:52All right.
03:52So, on to business, you said you got back last night.
03:55Right around the time you're getting back, the Trey White news comes that Trey White's going to be added to
03:59the Bills practice squad.
04:00Adam Schefter reports to get up to speed with the intention of brought to the active roster.
04:05Sometimes that's just what you say about the practice squad because lots of practice squad guys will hit the active
04:11roster for elevations.
04:12Do you anticipate that Trey Davis White is just on the active roster very shortly?
04:17Yeah.
04:18I was shout out to the new way that we can actually have internet on our airplanes.
04:23Right.
04:23Which was I was able to kind of watch it.
04:25Everything happened in real time.
04:26I was right when Deion Dawkins was on with the afternoon guys who were filling in yesterday.
04:31And it was right before that when it happened.
04:32And, you know, sure, you see that news come down.
04:34You're like, oh, my goodness.
04:35The first thing I did was check to make sure it was from verified Schefter account.
04:39Right.
04:40You know what's going on here with all the talk.
04:41And then you start to dig into it.
04:44And, yes, Jeremy, I think that he'll be on the active roster for this basic reason.
04:49I don't think Trey Davis White signs back with the Bills without any assurances that he's actually going to be
04:54playing for the Buffalo Bills.
04:56Even Jordan last year.
04:58Jordan, though, remember when he signed, he said that he kind of took advice from Micah that said, hey, it's
05:04okay.
05:04Like, if you just don't play, you're there to help.
05:06You're there to be a part of a team.
05:08And he was kind of okay with that, but he knew that it could happen at some point.
05:12I think this feels a little different.
05:13Like, Trey Davis White's coming in and maybe he is going to be served as more of a mentor like
05:17Micah did that one year.
05:18Like Jordan did, but eventually was elevated.
05:21I don't know the timeline.
05:23I don't know, like, if it's going to be in a week or two.
05:25You do have a suspension to C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
05:28That's a safety.
05:30But it feels to me like, in some capacity, Trey Davis White's going to be on the active roster here.
05:37Maybe sooner rather than later.
05:38Now, the other thing we don't know is coming out of that game, like, is Christian Benford okay?
05:42There was some talk at the end of the game that, you know, he had missed some reps at the
05:47end of the game.
05:47And then you do this, we know that they like what IGB's bringing.
05:51In fact, the defensive coordinator said that yesterday.
05:54He said he's earned more reps.
05:55He knows what he's getting on a play-to-play basis.
05:57We know that it feels like the Max Harrison situation is a bit inconsistent.
06:02So, I think everything lines up, Jer, for me to say that I think that Trey Davis White will be
06:06on the active roster.
06:08And probably a little bit more sooner rather than later, but we'll see.
06:11And, of course, the next question is, what position does he play, Sal?
06:14How long did it take until you got it?
06:16Is he going to be a safety question?
06:18Yeah, no doubt.
06:19And I've always said, and the Bills had said this.
06:21In fact, a couple of years ago, Brandon Bean was asked about his transition.
06:26He's like, no, that's not really something we're looking at right now.
06:28And I never felt that Trey Davis White, you know, until now.
06:32I mean, now's a separate time.
06:33We can talk about that.
06:34But I never felt that he was a safety per se, especially in Sean McDermott's defense,
06:38which the safeties are definitely asked to be involved in tackling and keep everything in front of you
06:42and come up and make plays.
06:44Because this may be a little bit different.
06:45Maybe.
06:46I mean, that's something we'll see.
06:48I still feel like he's probably a corner, but it would not stun me if he works at both positions.
06:52Because now it's a little bit different in this particular defense to be able to maybe just not have to
06:57be as involved necessarily
07:01in the running game if you want to put him in a spot where he can kind of go out
07:06there
07:06and just understand where are we supposed to be, kind of patrol center field.
07:10But even then, I'm not sure if that's his game, right?
07:12I mean, there's a lot to be – there's a lot unknown here.
07:14There's a lot to kind of figure out.
07:16Yeah.
07:16Would you say the same thing maybe about Nickel?
07:18Like, there's run elements that could prevent that?
07:22Because that's the position, Sal, that they've really seemingly been thin, right?
07:26Like, Hamlin having to do it at times or guys that hadn't been on the roster that Nickel would be
07:33a spot.
07:33They need depth.
07:34But I don't know that I ever remember Trey White doing that much at all.
07:37I mean, they just had Taron Johnson do it basically his whole career.
07:41No.
07:41Right.
07:42It feels like that's not the most suitable spot for him.
07:45And Jordan Hancock's coming back at some point here, right?
07:48So you have to remember, too, like once they get him back, they're in a much better spot.
07:53They do have to Corey Couch on the practice squad.
07:55I know Jalen Kilgore's playing safety, and they're going to need him there.
07:58But, you know, in a pinch, you have him.
08:00So probably feels less likely for that particular position, Joe.
08:03But I really don't know what the plan is to have, you know, Tredavious until we kind of see it
08:07put into use.
08:08Do you – what was your impression of him last season?
08:10Like, it felt like it went better than what was expected.
08:15He played a lot, right?
08:16Like, he would rotate with Hairston when they were both healthy,
08:20and he would kind of play the whole game if either Hairston or Benford was out.
08:25How did you feel about his season productivity-wise last year?
08:30Better than what people expected, and I think better than what people remember, to be honest with you.
08:34Like, he – I thought he kind of settled it down a little bit.
08:37I thought he played pretty well.
08:39And then look at the drop-off.
08:41Look what happened right in that Denver game or the playoff game.
08:43As soon as he goes out, they go target his backup, Dane Jackson, right?
08:46And it wasn't great.
08:48It wasn't like, oh, my God, he was an all-pro.
08:50But I think it went – I think he had – he was okay.
08:53He was steady.
08:53He gave you a floor.
08:55And that's probably what the Bills are hoping for in this situation.
08:58Sal Capaccio joining us on the Western Hotline for Bills.
09:01Bi-week prep, improve the defense.
09:04Sal, there's also the C.J. Gardner-Johnson news.
09:06He gets a one-game suspension, so he will miss the Baltimore game, which might be a considerable loss.
09:12Were you at all surprised that Joe Brady – again, he didn't exactly defend him, but he said he's a
09:19member of the Bills,
09:20as if to kind of put down any idea that he might be cut as a result of this move.
09:23Maybe they can make an evaluation, and he will be.
09:26But right after that game and after that moment, I think you had a lot of Bills fans pretty hot
09:30at the idea that he should be gone.
09:33Yeah, I think there's a lot of the fan base that would rather see him not on the team than
09:38on the team.
09:39I think the Bills don't want to, A, have a knee-jerk reaction and want to evaluate everything in totality
09:46before going down that road.
09:49And I also think that bringing him in, and what did Joe Brady say?
09:53He was brought here for a reason.
09:54I think the Bills believe that he could still be here for that reason in a positive way, not in
10:00a negative way.
10:00But, man, I think that this is a really tricky situation for them because, as much as Joe Brady says,
10:07we want guys who tow the line but not cross the line, you knew that this was possible with him
10:12in some capacity.
10:13I'm not saying this particular act, but you also don't know going forward if that same thing can happen, and
10:17he clearly hurt the team.
10:19And everybody who talked yesterday said that, meaning Joe Brady and Jim Leonard,
10:24and talking about the penalties and put him in that position.
10:27And then there's just the point of it of, and I said this yesterday, and I knew it,
10:31because I'm walking through the airport, I see the Josh Allen play, and then what do I see right after
10:35that?
10:36The C.J. Gardner play.
10:37Of course.
10:37And anybody who's involved in that organization, they have to watch that.
10:41They have to see that.
10:42And that's just not a good look for anybody.
10:44So I do think there has to be some sort of evaluation over the next week.
10:47But that said, the indication from Joe Brady is that's not happening.
10:51They're not moving on from him.
10:54And I don't really know what it looks like going forward if something like that happens again.
11:00But at this point, it doesn't feel like they're going to be making that kind of move.
11:04Right.
11:04Are we at a last straw situation?
11:06Like, it's impossible to know, but, like, doesn't it feel like if one more thing happened of the magnitude that
11:13we saw on Sunday,
11:14it's like, how could you keep going with this guy?
11:17Right.
11:17No, I agree with you, Joe.
11:19And I don't know.
11:20I think the Bills want to see it through because this was something that Brandon Bean made a point of.
11:24You know, this isn't a $20 million investment like Joey Bosa, right?
11:28That's not the same case.
11:29It's not Von Miller.
11:30It's not.
11:30We went out, and we're paying this guy a lot of money because he's really good to come in and
11:34do this one thing that's special.
11:35Joe, they didn't pay him a lot of money.
11:36It's only $3.5 million, which is already paid, by the way.
11:39I mean, it's guaranteed.
11:40So you can move on from him.
11:41Whether he's on the team or off the team, he's costing you the same amount of money, right?
11:44There's no extra money involved.
11:46But he is a player, they brought in Joe, that the GM made a point to say, we need players
11:51like this.
11:51We need him.
11:52We need dogs who go into Houston and don't care.
11:55This is the kind of player that we intentionally are targeting to bring onto the team.
11:58And I think when you bring someone in like that, when you bring someone in that you have a specific
12:03vision for,
12:05and target to fit on your roster specifically, not just a back-end guy who can fill in a depth
12:11chart or whatever.
12:12When you bring a guy like that and you say that, I think that you have a much more kind
12:18of, first of all, you have a longer leash.
12:21And second of all, I think you have a much more vested interest to making sure that despite something that
12:25happens that goes like this,
12:26you want to try and kind of see it through to say like you didn't screw up on it.
12:30You know what I mean?
12:31I wonder, I don't know that you would know this off the top of your head, Sal, or maybe it's
12:34the type of suspension.
12:35But this is happening in Denver right now where a guy got suspended for, I don't know what, but he
12:41is, he's foregoing all his guarantees.
12:43Or like the team doesn't have to give him all their guarantees if they cut him.
12:47And I wonder if the bills would be, if they did decide to cut him, if they could get out
12:53of even the $3 million because he suspended it.
12:56I'm not sure the situation.
12:57Who is it and what was the suspension?
12:59I'm trying to find that now because it wasn't like a spinning.
13:01Because it could be, if it's something team-related, now you're not really, there could be a lot of things.
13:05This is NFL without pay.
13:07Right.
13:08I don't know if that's, that's an in-the-weeds CBA question, Joe, to be quite honest with you.
13:13And I don't know the difference or who that is from.
13:16Right.
13:18Sal Capaccio.
13:19All right, Sal, finally, to the bye week, get DJ more healthy, get things rolling offensively, and, you know, just
13:26kind of see where things go.
13:28Joe Brady, I find it interesting, his commentary about, you know, I'm not happy with it with the way the
13:33football team is playing.
13:35He's kind of asked about the defense because the defense is what they have to get fixed, of course.
13:40Offensively, you know, maybe he wants things to be a little better in certain spots, but, you know, he's got
13:45the magician back there, and he's got a good run game.
13:47And as long as they stay healthy and get DJ more back, I feel like we might see a return
13:51to an offense that has people a little more confident.
13:54Because Moore's absence, listen, they go 2-0 without him, right?
13:58So, good, well done.
13:59They go 2-0 and score 70 points.
14:00Right, right, exactly.
14:02And they're all from the offense.
14:03They didn't score on defense.
14:04They didn't score on special teams.
14:05Right.
14:05So, you know, job well done.
14:07You got through it and maybe would think that, you know, you did it with your B-plus game.
14:11And, again, your B-plus game puts up 30 a game.
14:14So, whatever.
14:15I feel like they managed that injury.
14:18And for him to say, you know, he's not happy, like, sure, I understand.
14:22And he might be, you know, always looking for Moore.
14:23But I think he's got to be a little happy about that.
14:27100%.
14:27I mean, when you can go out there and lose a guy like DJ Moore for two games and still
14:33come out and score 37 and 33 points, 70 points in two games on the West Coast, you feel good
14:40about, you know, where your offense can be even when you lose top players.
14:45I would say, though, there are times when it feels disjointed, when they don't, you know, convert, you know, I'll
14:52give you an example.
14:53The first two drives on Sunday, like, you have a chance to get touchdowns and to settle for field goals.
14:58As much as you score 33 points, that could have been probably another eight points on the board, four in
15:01each drive right there.
15:02And those are the things I think that eat at Joe Brady.
15:05There's times where penalties are setting them back a little bit.
15:07Look, I don't think anybody expects every team to be perfect, you know, whether on offense or defense.
15:13But I think you feel like there's still meat on the bone, despite the fact this team is scoring 32
15:18.8.
15:18I think what's complicating it, Jeremy, is in a quote-unquote normal situation, you'd be like, oh, my God, they're
15:25scoring 32 points a game.
15:27They're unbelievable.
15:28Look at this.
15:29But I think what's happening here is people feel like they have to score maybe more if this keeps up
15:34with the defense.
15:35And that's what I think is making people feel a little bit more anxious about it, if you will, right?
15:40Which is, yeah, this is great, but you know what?
15:43And it's not the offense's fault, right?
15:44The offense is still scoring 32.8, but you almost feel like they need to be better because I don't
15:49know if our defense can be as good.
15:50And I think that's what's happening here a little bit.
15:53So, from Joe Brady a little bit yesterday, but also kind of just timeline-wise, how we feel about D
15:58.J. Moore's status at this point?
15:59Because when they have him, that's the separator.
16:03That's the guy that gets open.
16:04And now it'll be, what, almost a month by the time he would come back and play against Baltimore that
16:08he's been resting?
16:10He got hurt on October 4th.
16:12The first game back eligible, you know, the first game after the bye is November 1st.
16:16So, yeah, that's a full month.
16:18And now that they did give him two weeks, you're giving him time to really heal.
16:23And I think that it sounded like that he's on track, that he could wind up playing.
16:28We'll see about Ed Oliver, too.
16:30But if they can get both him and Ed Oliver will help, too.
16:32You know, I mean, I know he hasn't played that much, and I know that, you know, it's getting to
16:36a point where he, it doesn't seem like he's reliable to be on the field.
16:39But when he is on the field, I think he can still be very helpful to this defense.
16:44And, yeah, I think a healthy D.J. Moore helps everybody.
16:47Look at Dalton Kincaid.
16:49And I know he had seven catches last game.
16:52Most of those were shorter.
16:54But it's clear that when D.J. Moore is on the field, Dalton Kincaid is a better player.
16:58It just opens up everything a little bit more.
17:00But, yeah, I think it sounded like, Joe, to yesterday when Joe Brady was talking.
17:05A little more optimistic, you know, that you might see these guys.
17:08But we are a full almost two weeks from that.
17:10Very good.
17:11Sal Capaccio on the Western Hotline, wrapping up Bills and Raiders.
17:15And real quick, Sal, I did find the player that it was.
17:17Chicago, it's Montez Sweat, and it's a PED suspension, which is, I think it's that specific.
17:22Suspension and his contract as to why his money was voided.
17:26Probably right.
17:27Yeah, I don't think there's anything with this.
17:29Right.
17:29But, again, you never know with these CBA things and what happens.
17:33But good find on that.
17:35And they are a little bit different along the way.
17:37So, anyway, yeah, and I think it's only three and a half they paid C.J. Garter Johnson.
17:43But that was a guarantee.
17:44And I think there might have been some incentives in there.
17:46But I don't think anything's impacted right now by the contract if they were to move on.
17:51All right.
17:51Thanks.
17:52Thanks, Al.
17:53You got it, guys.
17:54One thing about the C.J.
17:55Garner Johnson decision, you know, like Brady is a player's coach.
18:02I don't think there's any doubt about that.
18:03Mm-hmm.
18:05And he's got years ahead of him, right?
18:09Years.
18:09He'll coach this team for, let's just, I'll throw the number four years, five years, maybe
18:13even more.
18:15So, his reputation, his resume, it'll all grow on the wins and losses side.
18:20And then he'll get, we'll get like the resume of what he does with moments like this.
18:25You know, they bring him in and he spits at a player and gets a one-game suspension.
18:32And if you don't do anything about that, just on its own, what does it say?
18:38Eh, eh, not much.
18:39If all of a sudden we're three, four years in and we see players that tow the line, go over
18:46the line,
18:46and are just allowed to keep jobs or allowed to be a part of this team, then that's, you know,
18:51something your coach will own as part of his resume, like light on discipline.
18:56So, whether or not it's true, whether or not it plays out that way, you know, C.J.
19:02Garner Johnson on a team, it'd be one thing if this was any other player, but right, there's also context.
19:08They would have had to expect that a guy that's on a different team every single year,
19:14including winning teams every single year.
19:16Like, why is he on a new team every year?
19:18Well, it's probably something that everybody knows.
19:21And now he's on your team, and maybe you've seen one of the reasons he's on a new team every
19:25year.
19:26So, I mean, I don't think anyone's been too impressed with his play.
19:30He did make a big play in the Charger game, right?
19:32But other than that, it's been rough for the entire secondary.
19:36The entire secondary, it's been a rough go.
19:38Can you think of another play other than that one all season?
19:42It's really it.
19:43I feel like there was a big team.
19:44And listen, like, that...
19:46By the way, speaking of safeties, I thought Cole Bishop had a really good game.
19:50Yeah, he did.
19:50Against the Raiders.
19:51Like, the Cole Bishop that we know, the Cole Bishop of old, of last year.
19:55Yeah.
19:55Be a nice development to get him back.
19:57It's again, though, where, like, there are different elements that hurt you.
20:02There is, you're embarrassing the team by doing it.
20:05It's disgusting on a human level in the first place.
20:08And then also, you're giving the other team 15 yards.
20:13And there's also being ejected, and I have to put a backup in.
20:16But the Raiders, they don't end up scoring there, right?
20:19Or they end up kicking a field goal.
20:21But you walk them from the 33 to the 14-yard line with that penalty.
20:26And they have first and 10 at the 14 with 15 seconds left.
20:30You've given them a shot at the end zone.
20:31Much more than they would have had before.
20:34They have 19 seconds left.
20:35They're at the 33-yard line.
20:36What are the Raiders going to do?
20:3733 yards away with less than 20 seconds.
20:40They're probably playing for a field goal.
20:41Maybe they take, like, one shot at the end zone from distance.
20:45But they're not a big threat to score.
20:47And instead, Glock stopped 15 seconds to go in the half.
20:51And now you're at the 14-yard line.
20:53Very different.
20:54You've improved their odds to score a touchdown there by a lot.
20:57And that could have mattered.
20:58And do you trust him to not take a stupid penalty in a big moment?
21:03In the fourth quarter of a close game?
21:06And right now, I'd have to say I'd be more worried about him doing it than any other player on
21:10the team by far.
21:12Todd in Syracuse.
21:13Todd, good morning.
21:15Hey, good morning, guys.
21:16Just a quick thought on the Trey White signing.
21:19And this is pure fan speculation, but I heard a lot in the offseason about the IGB draft pick and
21:28what that meant for Hairston.
21:30Is there any way that they're thinking forward if they wanted to make a move?
21:34I mean, you have to package something to get a good player.
21:37A player-controlled contract like Max Hairston in some sort of package deal to get a difference maker.
21:45Is that possibly anything that the GM is thinking about when he makes a move, like bringing Trey White back?
21:52Or is it purely leadership from that perspective?
21:55I'll hang up and listen.
21:56Thanks, guys.
21:56Thanks, Todd.
21:57Yeah, I don't think – I don't know.
21:59I don't know what names at corner.
22:01There's Keyshawn Nixon in Green Bay and all this in the Packers season is back.
22:05They're saved.
22:06It just feels like we have to wait another week or two to hear the names that are being mentioned
22:11at the deadline.
22:12And could they package Hairston?
22:14Sure.
22:15I don't think the Trey White signing is an indication they're about to do that.
22:18It also would mean the GM decides to give up on a first-round pick, which Hairston has been –
22:27It'd be the quickest he's ever given up on a first-round pick.
22:29It would be.
22:29And let me ask you – this is something I feel like I'm setting you up for something here.
22:33Not like setting you up the fall, but giving you something to really chew on.
22:38Because you were a big fan of – I shouldn't say a big fan.
22:40Again, you liked to point out that Kyrie Elam had some solid underlying indicators that he could play.
22:47And then, of course, he got traded.
22:50It all died.
22:51How much better has Hairston been?
22:53How much more reliable has Hairston been than Elam?
22:55Really?
22:58I'm still wondering with Hairston if it's really just one bad game, though.
23:02Okay.
23:03Has there been another game other than New England that everyone's had a real serious problem with him?
23:08He played 17 snaps on – 17 coverages on Sunday.
23:11He got targeted one time.
23:13And it wasn't caught.
23:15But that – to me, that's not always –
23:17And he made a tackle behind the line of scrimmage.
23:19Getting targeted once on 17, just because they're not coming for you,
23:23doesn't mean that you're the one that did great.
23:27But isn't it better than being targeted 12 times?
23:30Sure, but who was targeted 12 times?
23:33IGB.
23:3512?
23:35No, no.
23:36Sorry, that wasn't 12, but he was the one that they were throwing at.
23:39Yeah.
23:40And Gardner-Johnson.
23:41Whenever he was covering a tight end.
23:43Yeah, I just don't know what to make of Hairston.
23:45Like, he was –
23:46I mean, it might be the time to get out now before he becomes an Elam-level value
23:50where, like, everybody knows, like, oh, this just ain't working.
23:53You might even be able to hide behind, like, hey, we drafted this guy a year ago
23:57and it really doesn't fit what we want to do going forward defensively.
24:00We think he'd fit better on your team.
24:01You want to do a deal?
24:02To me, more likely is you treat him like Coleman, which is we invested a lot in this guy
24:07rather than sell him for pennies on the dollar.
24:09Why don't we be the team that sees if he can figure it out and give us value?
24:14Like Coleman has done.
24:16You think they'll give him opportunities?
24:18Like, Coleman's on the field.
24:19Coleman was on the field, really, unless he was being suspended because he couldn't show up for things.
24:25Like, even in the playoffs, he was on the field.
24:27Like, he played 40% of the snaps in both of the playoff games after he had been suspended.
24:32This year, they just start the season, he's on there.
24:34He's on the field.
24:35He's starting games.
24:36So, he had – they gave him every chance to prove what he's now proving.
24:42Which –
24:43Are they going to do that with Hairston?
24:45Because then you're taking IGB or Benford off the field, or you're not putting Trey White out there.
24:49I know we might, down the line, be in a fight about what Coleman really is proving.
24:54He's proving he's an NFL player.
24:55Yeah.
24:56To me, that's the extent.
24:57That he has a solid role.
24:59Right.
24:59Someone just passed along to me.
25:00He leads the NFL in EPA per target.
25:04That's surprising.
25:05Well, what does he do?
25:07He gets touchdowns.
25:08Big plays, yeah.
25:08He catches touchdowns.
25:10He doesn't have a ton of targets, but he gets a ton of touchdowns.
25:13Yep.
25:13And he's Josh's broken play guy.
25:16Right.
25:16And that's – like, Josh's broken play guy is a value.
25:21If I were to offer you right now to re-sign him, what would you think?
25:26After this year, the Bills say, let's do it.
25:28Four-year deal for Coleman.
25:29You want it?
25:31I mean, I don't necessarily want it, but I think it's really possible.
25:35But again, like, is Hairston –
25:37I'd be running away from that idea.
25:38Is Hairston –
25:39From a cap standpoint.
25:40Going to be on the field to even earn what Coleman's earned?
25:45Right, because IGB outranks him now.
25:47I think it's – unless there's an injury, I think it's tough to see that.
25:51Does Trey White immediately go in and outrank him?
25:54That's what – like, Sal mentions, like, I don't think Trey White is signing here
25:57unless he thinks he has an opportunity to play.
25:59You don't have an opportunity to play unless Max Hairston is really going down the depth chart.
26:03Right.
26:04803-0550.
26:05We'll get your calls on this, more thoughts on Vegas,
26:08and Boomer Esiason has given Josh Allen a new nickname.
26:11That's next.
