00:00These humanoid robots are throwing punches, but they're not fighting on their own.
00:04I'm just kind of scared that this is the start of something either super amazing or things that we'll be
00:10seeing in the movies.
00:11This is Singapore's first Avatar Robot Combat Tournament.
00:15Robots punch, kick, and grapple in the ring.
00:18And every move is controlled by a human.
00:21Fighters wear special suits that translate their movements into robotic punches and kicks.
00:26Personally, I feel like it's far more interesting to have robots piloted by people, by humans.
00:32Because you get the sort of human chaos.
00:35You get the problems and the drama that are associated with faulted humans.
00:41The robots compete in two weight classes, with the heavier models weighing up to 75 kilos.
00:47And some robots have to be carried out of the ring.
00:50In a combat scenario, actually, you can look at it like a stress test.
00:53So that involves very fast movements, trying to be as powerful as it can.
00:58So all of that is actually transferable to later deployments of humanoid.
01:03The tournament brought together teams from around the world, with more robot fights planned in other cities.
