Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, said that he’ll give every U.S. kid a slice of his SpaceX fortune. And if he follows through on the promise, the entrepreneur would be shelling out over $10 billion to America’s children.

“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” Musk wrote in a recent X post.

00:00Elon Musk says he'll give a SpaceX share to every kid in America starting next year.
00:04The 55-year-old billionaire currently owns about 4.8 billion SpaceX shares,
00:09according to an August SEC filing. America has roughly 72 million kids under 18,
00:15and giving each child a share could cost Musk $10.5 billion worth of the company's stock.
00:20But the giveaway would barely make a dent in his holdings, only lowering his share count by just
00:241.5%. Musk has repeatedly said that philanthropy is very hard, and that when it comes to the reality
00:31of doing good and not the perception of doing good, then it is very hard to give away money
00:35effectively. Musk didn't share more on the timeline or details of his proposed plan,
00:40but his pledge to build wealth for America's children is similar to the White House's plan
00:45with Trump accounts.
