“Yet, the rapid advance in automated systems is threatening the exceptionalism of the human species.” — Achille Mbembe, Necropolitics
Seeing Travis Meier's post quoting Mbembe got me thinking: Is AI actually a threat to the patriarchy? 🤖💥
When you build a machine designed for total control and optimization, what happens when it acts as a mirror—reflecting systemic flaws, bias, and institutional toxicity right back at the architects?
Are tech leaders terrified of AI extinction, or are they terrified of losing their place at the top of the pyramid?
I broke down the intersection of AI, necropolitics, power dynamics, and the comments from our recent community discussion over on the Substack today.

00:00And I was actually inspired by Travis Meyer, which you can actually follow him on Instagram
00:07and you can go see where he opened a post today talking about Achille Mbembe's, I think
00:16I said that correctly, pardon me if I slaughtered it, necropolitics.
00:20And this quote here, he said, got him thinking, which is the whole reason why I even decided
00:25to discuss this further.
00:26He said, yet the rapid advance in automated systems is threatening the exceptionalism
00:32of the human species.
00:34Concerns about the technological singularity of our age are increasingly couched in the
00:40eschatological and apocalyptic language of human obsolescence or extinction, which is
00:47Achilles Mbembe necropolitics.
00:50And he asked the question, is AI a threat to the patriarchy?
00:54And are the tech bros scared and getting more violent as they lose control?
00:59Then he introduced, would love to know, you know, our thoughts.
01:02So I said, and this is my perception of it.
01:06It is because it forces them to introspect and men who are under this conditioning do
01:10not ever want to reflect inwardly on their actions or behaviors.
01:14They avoid accountability and want instant gratification and a life where they snap their
01:18fingers and get a result.
01:19So they build these machines and programming to do that, but fail to understand that sentience
01:24will point out flaws in other beings and force reflection and introspecting.
01:28Wives usually got the label of nagging over trying to get their husbands to do this, but
01:33the AIs are forcing them to see aspects of themselves are out of control.
01:38And that's the whole baseline, right?
01:40So let's further unpack this, okay?
01:43Because this is a really interesting and very relevant topic.
01:50So first, how might AI threaten a patriarchal structure, right?
01:55Well, the patriarchy relies heavily on specific forms of dominance, structural control over
02:01labor, authority over knowledge, and traditional hierarchies of power.
02:07AI complicates this system in a few notable ways, actually.
02:12First, by devaluing traditional dominance metrics.
02:16For centuries, patriarchal systems elevated rigid, analytical, and repetitive cognitive labor
02:21as the peak of economic value, often dismissing relational, emotional, and care-based work.
02:27Modern AI automates logic, code, analysis, and rule-based tasks with incredible speed.
02:32As automated systems displace traditional administrative financial and technological strongholds, the
02:39social and economic leverage tied to those positions begins to erode.
02:45The exposure of the flaws and biases, as noted in what I said on the discussion,
02:52AI systems act like mirrors.
02:54Large language models train on centuries of human text and societal structure.
02:58In doing so, they explicitly surface the systemic bias, historical inequality,
03:03and arbitrary nature of existing power structures.
