00:02Rain has already ruined nearly half the pumpkins on this New York City stoop,
00:07forcing homeowner Hillary Wallace to rebuild part of her Halloween display.
00:12Usually these gourds and pumpkins really last through Thanksgiving. This year we got wiped out.
00:18Wallace has been decorating her stoop for 11 years, transforming it into what she calls...
00:24The Gothic Manor. Keeping the stoop spooky took a little bit of extra maintenance this year after
00:29rain rotted nearly half of her pumpkin display. Once they start rotting, there's nothing you can really do.
00:35An interior designer by trade, Wallace is getting creative to protect her decorations from the elements.
00:40After replacing the rotted pumpkins, she added material underneath them and foam spacers between them
00:46to help prevent water from collecting. So that way the pumpkins could breathe and also drain.
00:52And it's not just rain. Gusty fall winds can also send Halloween decorations flying.
00:57Wallace uses wire to secure her animatronics and other decor, while choosing waterproof
01:03materials whenever possible. We always put waterproof stuff out. Some stuff doesn't last,
01:08but we, you know, we just try and secure everything. And despite the weather-related setbacks,
01:13Wallace says the joy her display brings makes the extra work worth it. Brings joy to everybody,
01:19even though when the weather gets rough, we keep going. I mean, you could see us putting stuff
01:23out. If it's storming, we're still going to be dedicated. For AccuWeather, I'm Heather Fordham.
