00:01So my purpose tonight is to offer comfort and I'd like to do it with
00:09humility and hope and offer us a way through our grief and the Prime Minister
00:16also rang with his afternoon and offered and asked me to pass on his both
00:22condolences and his help. Not quite sure what that help is going to look like but
00:30I promised him we'd come to it once we've worked it out so we will hold him to
00:35that. I will hold him to that. There would be very few of us who are unaffected by
00:43violence and especially we would know about violence in the home and we know
00:50about violence on the internet and many women told me that they are scared. If
00:56this can happen to a woman of Helen's privilege going to work in the main
01:01street of Whangaratta what does it mean for us and our safety? We know how
01:09important and as the Governor-General said it is to reach out to make that phone
01:15call to make the visit to drop into each other and ask how are you going and this
01:23happened to me at lunchtime today. I was in my shorts, t-shirt, hair up and it was my
01:28neighbour Don Brewer and he'd come down, walked up the drive, he'd knocked on the
01:34door and he said Cathy I just want to check in and see how you're going. We both cried
01:41like we've grown old adults. So I'm saying there's nothing to be ashamed of is
01:47having those cups of tea and talking about the loss and the sadness in our
01:51lives. We all have them. I would like us in Benambra, in Ovens Valley, over in Shep,
02:00Yildon, everywhere else to see if we could make this the best election ever. If we set a
02:09benchmark of what a really good election looks like and we decide what we decide what a really
02:18good election is and then we hold our political candidates to that standard. I think we could do
02:27that. So I'm asking you tonight could we commit to ourselves that are here to not get involved in
02:39negative political argument. There is no one I know who changes their mind by being told they're
02:48wrong. The skill is to go, well that's an interesting perspective. Tell me more. I'd like to understand.
02:56But truly it lies with us. It's not a job for Elbow. It's not a job for the Governor General.
03:02It's a job for us to be the change we want to see and give that gift of Helen's legacy
03:10to that generation.
03:13We love him.
03:24We love you.
03:31You
