Opposition leader Kemi Badenoch hits out at the government following their delayed decision to approve drilling in the Jackdaw gas field. It comes as Ofgem warned of gas shortages this coming winter. "Ofgem have explained we don't have enough gas for a single day of peak demand in winter. This is a shambles," she says. Report by Kennedyl. 00:00We know that the government won't approve Rosebank because this is an ideological belief for them.
00:06There is no common sense.
00:07In fact, the only reason why they approved Jackdaw yesterday is we've just discovered
00:12that the energy regulator Ofgem have actually explained that we don't have enough gas
00:18for a single day of peak demand in winter.
00:23This is a shambles.
00:24Labour sat on that decision for two and a half years.
00:27Andy Burnham had the audacity to blame the Conservatives, and now we know that we have a shortage coming.
00:34We are now going to see taxpayers' money being spent on importing gas from Europe
00:39when, if they'd done what I asked them to do back in February, that gas would be warming homes this
00:44winter.
00:45The government is a disgrace.
00:47They're not doing what is right for the country.
00:48They won't approve Rosebank until we end up in a precarious situation.
00:53And I will keep calling on them to do the right thing and drill our own oil and gas in
00:57the North Sea
00:58so that we don't have to rely on imports so much.
