00:00David, hit the music, will you please?
00:08So I'm going to go through a chart here regarding something that you guys always bring up when it comes
00:14to college coaches.
00:16Okay.
00:16They leave a program, go to the next program, and bring guys with them.
00:21Oh, you mean the opposite of what MSU did?
00:23So I'm going to go through that, but before I go through that, Paul has some interesting information on the
00:28ACC and Miami.
00:31Yeah, they want out.
00:32Yes.
00:33Shocker.
00:33Their president spoke with Yahoo Sports, and he was very open about it, actually, that they are looking to get
00:40out of the ACC and either join the Big Ten or the SEC, and if that doesn't happen, they will
00:45go and be independent.
00:46Yep.
00:46It's kind of what we talked about on the show.
00:48You're going to see more of this.
00:49The ACC and the Big 12 are done.
00:51And Miami, do they have the national media rights to do what a Michigan or Ohio State would do?
00:57They do not.
00:58But could Miami bring value on a football level?
01:02Yes.
01:02The issue is the rest of their sports.
01:05Nobody wants it.
01:06But Miami wants out.
01:08FSU would have been out years ago if they could afford it.
01:11I was about to say, can Miami afford to leave the ACC?
01:15The penalty lowers, I think, in 2030 or 2031.
01:18It lowers to just $75 million to get out of it.
01:20Just $75 million.
01:21Yeah, but Miami's got the money.
01:22No, no, no.
01:23I got it.
01:23But that's a wealthy private school.
01:25I remember, yeah, that's the big holdup because that's going to keep all the teams in the Big Ten because
01:30they got to read like $700 million.
01:32Or else you could leave and we own all your rights.
01:35So let's go through this, guys, because I have coaches all the way back to 2023 that have left the
01:41program and have brought at least eight guys with them to their new job.
01:47And what their record was.
01:48Pat Fitzgerald.
01:50And then I'll go through this year and what it looks like so far.
01:54So let's start in 2023.
01:56You had Deion Sanders go from Jackson State to Colorado.
01:59He brought eight plus players with him.
02:01Went four and eight.
02:03Yeah, but he sucks, though.
02:05But he's terrible as a coach.
02:06Correct.
02:06He's a grifter.
02:07Yeah, he brought Travis Hunter.
02:09That was the key.
02:10He won the Heisman.
02:12In 2024, we all remember this.
02:14It happened twice.
02:16Jed Fish went from Arizona to Washington with six and seven.
02:20And we know the big one.
02:21Kurt Cignetti, 2024, went from James Madison, Indiana, 11 and two.
02:25That's the standard.
02:26That's what people look at.
02:27Yeah, but that's the unicorn.
02:28Correct.
02:29I think what you're asking to do is just not go two and ten.
02:32Signed, Fitz.
02:33See, I don't think we can say that Cignetti was the unicorn anymore
02:37because it's not like he won the title in the first year.
02:40No, but 11 wins.
02:41All I'm saying is the expectation when you fire your coach
02:43and you come in the next year, you got to win six, seven games.
02:46That's all.
02:47That's all I'm asking for.
02:48Okay, I get what you're saying now.
02:50But, yes, I look at it as have a winning record the very first year
02:55if you bring enough of your players with you can be expected.
02:59Now, seven wins, sure.
03:0111 wins, probably not unless you're playing that Indiana schedule that they play.
03:05So when you're talking about seven wins, that happened last year.
03:09That happened three times.
03:13Charles Huff went from Marshall to Southern Miss, seven and six.
03:17Jimmy Rogers went from South Dakota State to Washington State, went seven and six.
03:22Then you had Jack Dickert went from Washington State to Wake Forest, went nine and four.
03:26The only one that did not do any of that, probably because of the program he went to,
03:31was Barry Odom.
03:33UNLV to Purdue, they went two and ten.
03:37But they have a program win this year.
03:40Okay.
03:40Year two, though.
03:41And here's where I think a lot of Spartan fans are like, see, look what Purdue is doing.
03:46I look at what Barry Odom is doing and I'm like, you know what?
03:49I think he's going to turn things around at Purdue because they're actually, they look fun to watch.
03:57They got a nice offense.
03:58And yes, they're competitive in games, which is what you can add for the first year.
04:05But they don't sit there and champion the moral victories.
04:10So let's look at what it's done this year.
04:12And the worst record so far from a coach that has done it.
04:15Fitz!
04:16No, because he didn't do it.
04:19Jim Mora went from UConn to Colorado State.
04:22They are currently two and four.
04:23Well, it also made no sense for him to do that.
04:25It didn't.
04:25It's a lateral move at best.
04:27Colorado State, the days of Sonny Lubick are a long time ago.
04:30I didn't understand that hire.
04:32Yeah.
04:32And then the second worst record so far would be Matt Campbell, Iowa State, the Penn State.
04:39They are currently three and four.
04:41Again, they ended up on their fourth, fifth, sixth choice.
04:43I hated to hire for them.
04:45It's playing out exactly like we thought.
04:47Matt Campbell's a joke.
04:48And this ain't the Big 12.
04:49We're talking first year coaches, David?
04:51Yes.
04:52He's actually right, you know.
04:54It is Fitz.
04:55Now he brought eight players.
04:57Well, we're talking about eight plus players that you bring with you.
05:00Not A.
05:01Not A.
05:02Yeah, not A.
05:03Oh, I thought you said A.
05:05Eight plus players.
05:07Fitz did not do that.
05:09Hey, who's the unemployed coach who brought nobody?
05:12What's that list?
05:13Oh, wait.
05:13State's the only one who hired one of those.
05:15Okay.
05:15I misheard.
05:17I thought he said A.
05:19That's so sad.
05:20Then you have Jason Candle and Jimmy Rogers.
05:25Jason Candle went from Toledo to UConn.
05:28Jimmy Rogers went from Washington State to Iowa State.
05:30They are currently three and three.
05:32Yeah.
05:33Jimmy Rogers had an interesting press conference.
05:35If people want to hear a coach just talk through the current situation, it's worth listening
05:42to.
05:42Now, again, I'm not going to cry for Jimmy Rogers.
05:44You took the job knowing you weren't going to have great NIL.
05:47You could have stayed at Wazoo and been a big fish in a little pond in the Pac-12.
05:51But he was just basically saying, nothing matters anymore.
05:55Relationships don't matter.
05:56We can have the greatest relationship.
05:57We could have the best scheme for your kid.
06:00We're not even getting to talk to parents.
06:01If you don't have the money to deal with these pimps, I mean agents, you can't even begin
06:06recruiting someone.
06:08Buddy, to add to this, because Lord knows you don't need your ego stroke.
06:12But yes, when you have to pay money just to get the kid to take a visit, that is a
06:17real
06:18thing where, okay, you know, look, David, your kid will be doing this soon.
06:25Not to say that he would, but at this point, Mike, it's literally $500 and I'll come visit
06:32your campus.
06:33Not commit.
06:34Five stars are about 10 G's to get to campus.
06:36Right, but yeah, you're going to pay me just to walk on your campus and to sell the campus
06:42to me.
06:42I got to get to check before the plane leaves the runway.
06:46Nice sport.
06:47Yeah, my apologies.
06:49They do have the number of players that these coaches did bring in.
06:52So I went through Matt Campbell.
06:53He brought 24 with him.
06:55You talked about Jimmy Rogers.
06:57He brought 15 with him.
06:59Right.
07:00Your guy next on the list from North Texas to Oklahoma State.
07:04He brought 19.
07:05He brought 19 guys and 77 new players to Okie State.
07:10All together.
07:10Yes.
07:11They are four and two right now.
07:13And easily could have beat Houston.
07:14Yes.
07:15He was Will Ferrell in old school.
07:17We're going streaking.
07:18He went around campus kidnapping people in a van.
07:20Mess to maker.
07:21Black bag.
07:23It's, it's, look, it's a thing.
07:26It's not a guarantee.
07:28This is the problem.
07:29You end up arguing with a bunch of dishonest people who want to do these straw man things.
07:34And none of this is a guarantee, but I can guarantee if you don't spend, or I can guarantee
07:40if you don't bring players, you end up as fits.
07:45I need you to say that again for the people in the bag.
07:47It is not a guarantee because you're, oh, what about this guy?
07:51What about that guy?
07:52Yeah, what about, what about guy is a POS?
07:56That's, that's what I think of those people.
07:57They're idiots.
07:58He also brought the most important thing.
08:00He brought an NFL caliber quarterback with him too.
08:02And guess what?
08:03You can laugh at this, Paul.
08:05If I have to hire a coach, it's one of the boxes I'm going to check.
08:10I want the coach.
08:12Does he have a quarterback to bring with him?
08:14But that, that won't end my pursuit of said coach, but it would help.
08:19It matters.
08:20No, you're right.
08:21Because if you're down to two coaches, okay, we got a better chance to win with that QB than
08:26this QB.
08:27That could push him over the edge.
08:28What about this guy?
08:29He brought a quarterback.
08:32I hate those.
08:33It's not this like, I hate those.
08:35No, no, I'm right there with you.
08:36I don't agree with you on much, but this we're simpatico.
08:39They drive me insane.
08:40Charles Huff went from Southern Miss.
08:42I'm sitting on the sideline.
08:43I'm sorry, David.
08:44They're sideline people.
08:45Like they just wait for failure just so they see, we didn't try.
08:49So look at us.
08:50We're so much better.
08:51Here's 50 examples of it working.
08:53Give me the one where it didn't.
08:54Great argument.
08:56Go ahead.
08:56Charles Huff went from Southern Miss to Memphis.
08:59By the way, he brought 15 players.
09:00And by the way, I hope he rented.
09:02That's going to be your next coach at Maryland.
09:04Well, see, and that's the thing because you have Jimmy Rogers on here.
09:08He was last year, first coach.
09:09I was going to ask you who's going to be the next year's first year somewhere.
09:13I think it's Huff.
09:14Yeah, I think you're right.
09:16I mean, he had one year at Southern Miss because Marshall's AD didn't like him for whatever reason.
09:20And then he gets the gig at Memphis.
09:22You can't say no to that.
09:24He's from the DMV.
09:25He's got recruiting chops.
09:27He was, I believe, he was a Saban guy at Bama at one point.
09:31Yeah, I think he was like some type of defensive, like some assistant.
09:35Yeah, he was there.
09:37Yeah, he's gone.
09:38They're like, Huff, where you at?
09:39Are you in D.C.?
09:40Nope.
09:41I'm on campus.
09:42I love Memphis.
09:44Go Tigers.
09:44So let me finish it out.
09:45Sir, we have an air tag in your briefcase.
09:48Alex Golish from South Florida to Auburn.
09:51He's 4-2.
09:52Yeah, brought some players, including Byron Brown.
09:54And then he goes to Georgia and has a landmark win.
09:57Yep, got it.
09:57Mike Jacobs from Mercer to Toledo.
09:59They're 5-2.
10:01James Franklin, Penn State to Virginia Tech.
10:03They're 5-2.
10:04And the big one.
10:05And their offense is fun with that Gerkenheimer kid or whatever his name is.
10:08It's not Drunkenmiller.
10:10It's like Gronkenheimer.
10:12It's like a play on Drunkenmiller.
10:13But their offense was cooking.
10:15I watched a little bit of their game last week.
10:17They were flying up and down the field.
10:19And then the big one that everyone points to again because of the Kurt Signetti,
10:23while we may be seeing it again in Bob Chesney, from James Madison to UCLA,
10:27they are 6-0.
10:28Yeah, listen.
10:29It's a tough break.
10:30You lose your starter.
10:31But, again, if he gets UCLA to 8-4 in year one,
10:34they've got a top-20 recruiting class.
10:36UCLA football has a little bit of energy to it.
10:38That's all you're looking for.
10:40No one's expecting Signetti, you dishonest piles of crap.
10:45And the fact that he's able to do that, I think what's getting lost in the sauce,
10:48you're able to bring in that type of recruiting class
10:51and those players with USC sharing the same talent as them.
10:55Because you're selling hope.
10:57You're not selling an idea.
10:58You're selling reality of, look, we're going to get to 8-4 this year.
11:02If I had you, we'd get to 10-2.
11:03What are you selling, a kid, when you're going 2-10?
11:06Oh, you'd be the guy to get us a 4-8, buckaroo.
11:09I'm talking USC.
11:11Like, USC's actually not that bad.
11:12I got you.
11:13My bad.
11:14USC may be losing their coach, but, yeah, he may be taking over L.A.
11:17Chesney.
11:19So that is your College Football Blitz 97.1.
11:23So we'll take you in.
11:23We'll be fine.
11:23Let's do it.
11:23I'll be fine.
11:23The children.
