00:00Today we're here on Friday, October 23rd to speak about our Measure FD and to educate the public to
00:06vote yes on Measure FD. If we are asking Angelenos to invest hundreds of millions of dollars
00:12into the fire department, City Hall owes them a concrete plan for how every dollar is going to
00:19make LA safer. For decades we've been understaffed. We have the same amount as firefighters that we
00:25had since the 1960s but the population has doubled in the city of Los Angeles and we actually have
00:31six fewer fire stations that we had in the 1960s. We cannot respond in time to the public which is
00:38a
00:38recommended four and a half minutes when someone calls 911 but we're getting there in almost eight
00:44minutes right now because we don't have enough staffing. So this measure when it passes Measure FD
00:50it's going to be on the ballot on November 3rd. It's going to go ahead and hire new firefighters,
00:56rebuild fire stations, purchase new fire stations, apparatus, and more paramedics and that's what
01:03the city needs. Well you know what we're the ones that are doing the job out there so we took
01:07it on
01:07our backs on our union brothers and sisters backs to put over three million dollars into this ballot
01:14measure because we know what the citizens need because we are the ones that are there when either
01:19you're there second short or you're there seconds just before. I'd rather be there seconds just before
01:24anything goes bad.
