00:04Here in Paris we can hear helicopters swirling above us, that's just one of the many measures
00:09which was implemented today as part of the demonstrations which took place as the interior
00:15ministry and government said that they wanted to avoid any of the scenes of violence which
00:20occurred last weekend.
00:21Protests which took place in France, in Paris and across the country today were largely
00:26peaceful.
00:27There were some clashes which broke out here, located on the eastern border of the Paris
00:34suburbs where protesters and some individuals clashed with the police.
00:39There were also some clashes in other French cities including in places where protests
00:44had in fact been banned, such as the city of Lyon.
00:48According to the interior minister, what happened was later in the day, groups which he described
00:53as linked to the ultra-left came and caused chaos.
00:57Of course we are waiting for the finer details to be able to decipher what actually happened
01:01and to gather testimony from those here.
01:04At present the police has arrested nearly a thousand people according to the interior minister
01:10as well and he said that this number will only go up.
01:13That's far above the figures of those who were arrested last weekend.
01:17It's worth also noting that separately, although some clashes did occur here, many protesters have
01:22over the course of this movement called out what they qualify as disproportionate measures
01:27used by the police as rights groups have accused the police of using brutal methods.
01:36That's a lot of dramatic music.
01:36All right Maldon and you are the ones here!
