Beyond the defeat of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan, Allied forces were responsible for atrocities, controversial military operations, and policies that caused immense civilian suffering.
In this historical documentary, we examine:
The bombing of Dresden: How Allied air raids devastated German cities and raised questions about civilian casualties
Soviet war crimes: The Katyn massacre, mass deportations, and widespread sexual violence committed by Soviet forces
Japanese American internment: The forced incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII
The Bengal famine of 1943: How British colonial policies worsened a devastating humanitarian crisis
Postwar accountability: How political interests influenced which atrocities were investigated, punished, or overlooked
Examining Allied wrongdoing does not diminish the crimes of Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan. Instead, it offers a more complete understanding of World War II and the human cost of global conflict.
Can the Allies be celebrated for defeating fascism while still being held accountable for their own actions?
