Motorcycling is at a crossroads. Caught between the conflicting demands of customers and global emissions legislation that are increasingly pulling in opposite directions, manufacturers are faced with a dilemma: how can motorcycles fulfil buyers’ requirements for convenience, enjoyment, price and performance and simultaneously address the need to make bikes consume less fuel and emit less pollution?

White Motorcycle Concepts’ Mono RR navigates those issues to illustrate how the right application of technology can create a bike that turns that conflict into harmony: reducing weight, improving aerodynamics and increasing powertrain energy density. The result is a motorcycle that has all the sound, feeling and familiarity of traditional, combustion engined sports bike, but with better performance and efficiency.

Reducing the size and weight of the powertrain while maintaining or improving its performance opens the door to innovative aerodynamic solutions that both reduce drag and improve handling and stability, starting a positive feedback loop whereby each improvement enables further weight savings or aerodynamic gains can be made.

The Mono RR is a technology demonstrator that allows these solutions to be benchmarked directly against conventional design to provide quantifiable figures to illustrate their benefits.

Advanced CFD simulations show that the Mono RR achieves a 16.4% reduction in aerodynamic drag, 77% less lift and 16% better thermal management than the conventional design it’s developed from, while exceeding targets for powertrain weight reduction. Developing the same ideas into a roadgoing production bikes or racing motorcycles promises to provide a conclusive advantage over conventional designs.

00:13Motorcycle engineering has never stood still.
00:16Every generation has delivered more performance, more efficiency, more capability.
00:24Perhaps the next development comes from multiple technologies
00:27working together to solve these challenges.
00:31Performance. Efficiency. Cooling. Packaging. Weight. Cost.
00:40Airflow influences drag. It contributes to stability.
00:46It affects cooling performance. And it interacts with vehicle packaging.
00:53A philosophy built around a simple idea.
00:57If we can reduce the total energy required to achieve motorcycle performance,
01:01we can increase the effectiveness of technologies that manufacturers are already developing.
01:08This is the WMC Mono RR. An engineering demonstrator, built to test ideas.
01:20At the centre of the motorcycle is a patented aerodynamic duct, allowing airflow to pass through the motorcycle, rather than
01:28simply around it.
01:31Every major feature on the Mono RR exists for a reason.
01:38The significance is not simply increased power density.
01:42It is the engineering freedom created by releasing volume within the motorcycle.
01:49In Formula 1, packaging is often as important as power.
01:54The Mono RR applies the same philosophy to motorcycle design.
02:02The Mono RR also demanded advanced manufacturing solutions.
02:07But the real innovation is not the material itself.
02:11It is the manufacturing approaches required to make that architecture possible.
02:19But motorcycles are not engineering projects.
02:22They are machines designed to be ridden.
02:29The program was built to test engineering ideas.
02:33But validation cannot stop in simulation.
02:37One idea.
02:39Six years of development.
02:41Driven by a belief that efficient technology development is part of motorcycles' future.
02:48The duct architecture is not a replacement for future powertrain innovation.
02:53It is a complementary technology that increases the value of current and future engine, battery and fuel developments.
03:03The Mono RR is not the destination.
03:07It is a proof point.
03:09How can we achieve more while demanding less?
03:14The principles remain relevant regardless of powertrain, internal combustion, hybrid systems, electric motorcycles.
03:25Future motorcycle engineering will not be defined by a single breakthrough.
03:29It will be shaped by increasingly integrated engineering solutions working together.
03:35Using less to achieve more.
03:40The way in the world is, challenges with the two frequencies.
03:43So many ways are people that need to be твоion.
