00:00Hi guys, we're here on Teta Avenue on the beautiful Gold Coast and we're here for the annual event
00:06Transporters on Teta, otherwise known as the Big Rig Parade and this is part of the Gold Coast 500
00:13V8 Supercars weekend and this is kind of really the opening event to sort of open the festivities
00:21because it literally is the community coming together to welcome these V8 Supercars as they
00:28get trucked in on these massive transporters and these trucks are huge like some of them I think
00:35are 26 meters long they weigh anywhere from I think 50 to 60 tons so it is a real like
00:43basically it's a
00:44sight to behold and that's why they do make a really fun event out of this and I think we'll
00:49have flamethrowers and they they have commentary and all sorts of things and look here's one of
00:54our local trucks rolling by but we are waiting for even bigger ones so the trucks not only haul the
01:00actual supercars but they also haul everything else that the team needs including things like spare
01:07engines spare car body parts tires all basically the equipment that they need I think even even a fridge
01:17well I guess for the team members but um yeah like it's it's just so exciting and they travel around
01:24Australia as a big convoy so they've just come from Bathurst now they're here on the Gold Coast and
01:30then they're heading down to Sandown and then I think I'm Adelaide for the final races for this year
01:37so we just cannot wait to see them rolling past and they will be coming along very soon

02:09yeah absolutely been doing this a few years now so uh this is cool so this is when everybody from
02:15main beach rolls out the red carpet and we welcome the repco supercars championship to town which is
02:20just a nice way of starting the weekend it really is like it's like a um well it's a parade

02:26your voice I can actually tell that you could be a commentator you've got a good voice for it
02:31oh thank you that's very cool do you travel around with the supercars yeah I do I do about five
02:36or six
02:36of their major events for the year like just came back from Bathurst and Bathurst was amazing and
02:40um yeah I think it's when the community embraces the events and what the events mean to the community
02:46I think that's when it's a little bit more special than just a race event you know what I mean
02:50yeah well that's true it does become a community event yeah how did you get into emcee
02:55oh that's an excellent question taking back a long time I emceed my first event in grade six
03:01when we had we were on our school trip and uh they were doing you know how you go on
03:07a school
03:07trip and on them and then last night they have a concert on the school trip yeah and they needed
03:11an emcee so that was my first emcee gig so it's obviously in you oh yeah it must be so
03:17you and what
03:18do you love best about the v8 supercars oh that's very much part of my life growing up so I
03:24was very
03:25much into supercars well it was the australian touring car championship when I was a kid and
03:30my dad was a ford guy my brothers were holden guys and that's where it all came together and
03:34I became I would say subie I would say I was obsessed like I would cry if Peter Brock lost
03:43and my whole wall was covered in Peter Brock posters and stuff and so I had a bit of a
03:49break from
03:49from all that music and all those sorts of different things as well but yeah that's how it all started
03:54so if you're into truck spotting then transporters on teta is definitely the event to attend because
04:01we're going to be seeing some really good makes and models including Kenworth and some of the other
04:07brands that are used for this purpose are apparently mercedes-benz actos man tgx daf and mac anthem
04:19so in terms of location where we are here we've got teta avenue just down there to my right
04:25and then this is the actual race track here behind me and this is the final corner here of the
04:31race
04:31track and then the cars go down to pit lane just down that straight there so the trucks will be
04:37coming down teta avenue going around the corner there going down into the pit lane and that's where
04:42they'll be unloading the supercars and in terms of coming here to this event if you're looking at
04:48how you're going to get here you can find some parking like there is some parking up past teta avenue
04:54there is parking on teta avenue too but of course it goes very quickly but then up on the side
05:01streets
05:02past that way or if you want to leave the car at home there is actually a tram stop just
05:08across the
05:08road there on my left to make it just that little bit more special so the commentary started and so
05:16i imagine the trucks are pretty close now like we're already waiting and the fantastic thing about this
05:24event is that you can get seats at all in the cafe we can have the cafe they are really
05:30cool and some
05:31people book weeks in advance for the event like they book a table you can sit to have a meal
05:37have your coffee
05:38and then watch these trucks rolling by it's like a flame thrower that's just coming out and they're
05:44setting up here ask you to make a whole lot of noise so that is going to be so exciting

05:48there we go these guys are putting their hand up for tickets and yes they're asking us all to make

05:51lot of noise so we'll make a lot of noise you can lend some flags one of your hands around
05:54in the air and wave
05:55around like you just don't care as some people coming through main beach wondering what the heck is going on
06:04here this plane thrower is being set up in front of my car i've heard rumors too so he's giving
06:10away
06:10double passes to the actual races at the moment so that's very exciting
06:16and also i just found out from the commentator that um the gold coast 500 is one of the only
06:22events i
06:23think where the trucks have to unpack their stuff and park elsewhere because they can't actually stay in
06:29the pit lane so i think all the other racing events around australia the trucks can stay with the proof
06:34but at the gold coast event they they do actually have to unpack and then um park somewhere else
06:40coming through
06:41oh see we're so welcoming to our local trucks
06:52so here's what we're going to be
06:53nice to have we go i think we're going to be cheering the truck

07:15oh there goes the food truck for the event obviously heading over to the race precinct

12:04But oh how fantastic to actually witness those trucks so up close.
12:09And I think we gave them a pretty warm welcome and just so exciting that the V8 Supercar event has
12:16really officially been started now.
12:19It's kicked off.
12:21So Peter here at Main Beach Optical is obviously race ready.
12:26Absolutely.
12:26So you like the races event being held here?
12:29100% it's exciting.
12:30It brings a lot of locals out, brings a lot of people free to stay.
12:34It brings everyone together, that's the big thing.
12:36It gives the locals an opportunity to like Karen and myself to open up their store.
12:41That's what I love about Transporters on T-Day.
12:42It is kind of a community event isn't it?
12:44The community kind of comes together.

12:50It's just the excitement of people coming down.
12:53We have a lot of people from Innist Dale coming and checking out the store and saying hello and catching

13:28So we've come across to Macintosh Island Park which is basically the race precinct.
13:33And we're right in front of the pit lane here.
13:36So when the trucks came down Ted Avenue they went around that corner.
13:41And now they came down.
13:42Oh and the car is just coming out now.
13:44Oh that is so exciting.
13:46Oh wow.
13:53Oh how beautiful.

14:09So they're going to slowly lower that car down.

14:17Imagine handling that car.
14:19That is so exciting.
14:32Well that was so exciting to see those cars being unloaded.
14:36And they're still unloading other equipment behind me like the tires and spare engines and body parts and whatever else
14:43that's on that truck with the V8 supercars.
14:46And standing here also gives you a really good idea of the scale of the trucks as well.
14:52Because they are massive.
14:54And coming down Tedder Avenue.
14:56Tedder Avenue is not a huge street.
14:58And so when those massive haulers come down that street.
15:02Oh I think they look even bigger really.
15:05Just coming down this sort of quiet Gold Coast street.
15:08And there's these huge trucks.
15:10So if you're coming up for the Gold Coast 500 or if you live up here on the Gold Coast.
15:14And you've never seen the transporters on Tedder before.
15:18I really highly recommend going there.
15:20Even if you're not into cars.
15:22Even if you're not into trucks.
15:23Just being there in person.
15:25Witnessing these huge huge haulers coming in.
15:28And also being part of the community.
15:30Because it really is a community event.
