00:00Hey Boomer. Hey, good morning guys. I know it's not a victory Monday, but I will say after watching yesterday's
00:06games, I mean this thing is still open for anybody and I don't think there's a real dominant team right
00:12now, even though there are some teams that like Minnesota that are undefeated and of course Seattle had a bounce
00:18back game against Kansas City. I would say the Patriots are right where I thought they would be.
00:22Yeah, we could start with last night. I mean, we've been talking about, Wiggy's been talking a lot about AFC
00:29teams and who scares them and there's really nobody. I mean, it does seem like it's anybody's game, Boomer.
00:37It is. I will say that Kansas City still got a very good team and even though they essentially got
00:43ambushed by Seattle and Seattle had a lot to prove because Kenneth Walker, last year's Super Bowl MVP, ended up
00:49signing with Kansas City in the offseason.
00:52So there was a lot on the line yesterday. It was going to be a really physical game. It was
00:56a very physical game. Patrick Mahomes looked pedestrian, did not have a good game at all.
01:02But I think if, you know, the games are played in Kansas City and Arrowhead, they're still going to be
01:07a formidable opponent for anybody.
01:10So I still think that right now, as we sit here, I think they're the best team in the AFC,
01:14at least.
01:15Do you feel like Mike Rabel was outcoached on Thursday night?
01:20You know, again, I don't. I mean, if you want to say outcoached, OK, he didn't throw the red zone
01:24interception again.
01:25And he also was a part of the coaching staff that called a play at the end of the first
01:30half that ended up in into a remarkable touchdown.
01:34Are there decisions they make during the game that could affect one way or the other?
01:38There always are. And they're always going to be.
01:41But, you know, Ben Johnson's one of the best coaches in football.
01:44They are very difficult to play at home, as I told you guys last week.
01:47Their defense plays a lot better at Soldier Field than it does on the road.
01:52But the problem, I thought, with the Patriots, they had a hell of a time trying to run the ball
01:56against that defense.
01:57And that's part of the Patriots' success.
01:59When they're running the ball successfully with their running backs and not their quarterback,
02:03that's usually when they're winning football games.
02:05But, you know, at 4-3 right now, 10 games to go.
02:09You know, I still think they're a 10, 11, maybe even a 12-win team.
02:13And I still think that they are going to be right in the mix for the playoffs.
02:17The question is, can they overcome the Buffalo Bills?
02:20And the Buffalo Bills have their issues, too.
02:22So, I mean, I could say every other team in the AFC.
02:25So, anybody can win it.
02:27Boomer, when you looked at the game on Thursday,
02:29was it kind of a look into the future of these two quarterbacks in Caleb Williams and Drake May,
02:36obviously, one day being the face of the NFL?
02:38And what did you like about both of their games?
02:41You know, I agree with you 100%.
02:42As a matter of fact, I think they already are the face of the NFL.
02:45This is the next-generation QB.
02:48There is no question that Caleb Williams does something to that offense in Chicago.
02:52You know, they've been scoring lots of points, 61 points over the last two games in which he has been
02:58back.
02:58So, he is right there at the top of the list when it comes to the younger quarterbacks
03:04that are now ascending into hopefully top five quarterbacks.
03:07And I would say the same thing for Drake May.
03:09You know, the thing that you see about these two guys right now where they are in their career
03:14is that they do make extra plays.
03:17They get first downs with their legs.
03:19They get out of the pocket.
03:21They throw the ball down the field, scramble, drill, and it all looks great.
03:25You don't see that a lot from the older quarterbacks that are 35 and older.
03:29I mean, like, Geno Smith sometimes, you know, I think he's a statue in the pocket.
03:34And he's not making those extra plays.
03:37So, this is the great thing about youth.
03:39I mean, like, they have a lot of energy.
03:41I see it from both of these quarterbacks.
03:43And I think both of these quarterbacks, you know, will be in the running many years to come for the
03:50MVP,
03:50just like Drake was last year.
03:52And if Drake continues to play the way that he's playing, you know,
03:55the Patriots with their defense, you know, are going to be one of the top teams in the AFC.
04:00There's no question about it.
04:01And if you told me today that Chicago and New England would end up in the Super Bowl,
04:05I would not – it would be hard to debate that.
04:08Boomer, Bears DB Clark Phillips could face a fine after that hit on Drake on Thursday near the end zone.
04:13Where's the line for you, and did Phillips cross it?
04:17I thought it was close.
04:19I thought, especially after yesterday's games, watching these flags come out and Tom Brady almost coming out of the box
04:26twice yesterday
04:27because of roughing the passer penalties in the game that he was doing.
04:32I think the officials are just told to try to keep the quarterbacks as protected as they possibly can, Courtney.
04:37And while I appreciate it and I understand it, we want these guys – these are the guys that we
04:43want to see on Sundays.
04:44We don't want to see backups.
04:45I think the officials have taken it to a whole new level of just being overcautious and throwing these flags.
04:54Now, that one on Thursday night, that definitely deserved a flag.
04:58Now, whether or not he's going to be fine for that, I guess we'll find out this week.
05:02Boomer, you mentioned Brady.
05:04Brady, he did a great job calling out the Packers coaching staff.
05:07And yet another example in a big stage, you have it with Aaron Glenn, with coaches that don't know how
05:13to handle a clock.
05:14At that point, yesterday, it's the fourth quarter, and the Packers give up a first down against the Lions.
05:23But if they just stop them to a field goal and prevent another first down, they'll get the ball back,
05:28as Brady said, between 25 and 35 seconds.
05:31In the end, they didn't stop them.
05:33But the intentional offsides – why do so many coaches still not understand how to run the end-of-game
05:42clock?
05:43You know, I'm kind of glad you asked me this because it's getting me ready for my show here today
05:47in New York.
05:48Because there's going to be a lot of discussion about clock management when it comes to Aaron Glenn.
05:52And how many times he has screwed it up in his halftime interviews, which lead people just to absolutely scratch
05:58their heads.
05:58As if he's – if you're wondering whether or not he's actually on the field of the game that you're
06:02watching.
06:04So, this is the most important part to me.
06:07Well, there's a number of important parts.
06:09Number one, the head guy, and you guys have seen this with the two head coaches that you've had, Bill
06:13Belichick and Mike Prable, totally in charge.
06:16Totally aware of what's going on, willing to, you know, take chances, willing to make decisions that seem to be
06:22right, especially when they work out.
06:24When they don't work out, that's when all of a sudden questions start coming as to whether or not the
06:30guy that is making those decisions should be standing on the sideline as the head coach.
06:33And that's going to be the entire discussion today down here in New York regarding Aaron Glenn and how many
06:39times he has screwed up at the end of the first half and what their problems are in the red
06:44zone and who's making the decisions.
06:46So, I think that yesterday we saw, again, coaching malpractice, we call it, or malfeasance, if you want to call
06:53it that.
06:54But they're making decisions in real time.
06:56The only excuse that I can make or come up with a description as to sometimes they make the wrong
07:02decision is that their players don't come through and don't do what they're supposed to do.
07:08So, then it then compounds the problem for the coach.
07:10So, I think most of the coaches are buttoned up.
07:13They all have analytic teams.
07:14They all have a guy that is helping them manage the game.
07:18Nobody was better than that than I thought Bill Belichick when he was at the height of his success there
07:23in New England.
07:23And it's a really hard, a high bar to actually get to that point to be able to be one
07:29of those coaches that is considered an in-game manager that understands the nuances of an NFL football game.
07:35The question of the week for Boomer is brought to you by McFarlane Energy.
07:39More surprising win.
07:41Falcons over the Niners or Giants over the Texans?
07:45For me, it's Giants over the Texans.
07:47You know, they were 10.5-point underdogs going into this game.
07:49Everybody was wondering what J.J. McCarthy was going to look like.
07:53And J.J. was awesome.
07:55J.J. played great.
07:57I mean, the Giants could have a budding quarterback situation on their hands next year.
08:02But let's wait until we get there for next year.
08:05But J.J. played great yesterday.
08:06And, you know, we all thought here down in New York that Houston had started to turn their season around.
08:11They had won two in a row.
08:12C.J. Stroud had looked good.
08:14They made the trade for Marvin Harrison Jr.
08:17So, there wasn't a lot of, I guess, confidence in the Giants to go down and win that game and
08:23win it in overtime.
08:24And Cam Scadaboo back on the field now.
08:27I feel like John Harbaugh has completely changed who the New York Giants are.
08:32Last week, he didn't give Cam Scadaboo the ball at all against New Orleans.
08:36And you know what?
08:37It cost the Giants the game.
08:39And I think he cost the Giants the game by making a bigger point, by not playing the kid as
08:45much as he should have or even giving him the ball.
08:48And then maybe saved his season this weekend by finally reinserting Scadaboo back into the offense, which was a big
08:56part of their success yesterday against Houston.
08:59I mean, it's just, it was really amazing.
09:01As far as San Francisco is concerned, they're running out of players.
09:05I mean, they're literally throwing to fourth and fifth wide receivers on their roster that are probably making about a
09:12half a million bucks a year.
09:14So, I wasn't surprised that Atlanta beat them.
09:17Atlanta does have some really good players.
09:19But, yeah, the Giants' win yesterday was a bigger surprise to me.
09:23Has anybody been able to figure out why the Steelers were honoring the characters from Peaky Blinders in France?
09:32Hey, friends, I don't know.
09:33I thought maybe they thought they were in London.
09:36Who knows?
09:37Okay.
09:37I just figured that out.
09:39Maybe they were hoping they were in London, given what was going on in Paris.
09:44My lead this morning was about Aaron Rodgers, his comments about the international week that the NFL considered.
09:51I think that that's a great idea instead of doing every single week a different team overseas.
09:55Do you like that?
09:56Do you like this international experience?
09:59Well, so I'm not playing, Courtney, so I don't know about all the travel and everything that goes into it
10:04and all the machinations that are going on behind the scenes.
10:08Most players say they enjoy the experience.
10:10And most players probably would love to play over there, you know, maybe twice in back-to-back weeks.
10:16You know, to me, that sounds a little bit more reasonable.
10:21Jacksonville has done that, and they seem to enjoy it, even though they won one-and-one this year.
10:26You know, the only place I played that was not an NFL football stadium was at Mississippi State in Stockville.
10:33So, you know, I think I'd much rather go to maybe London.
10:37It seemed like everything was fine around the game yesterday.
10:41It seemed like the fans were really into it.
10:43I don't, you know, they're not going to show all the stuff that's going on around the stadium and all
10:47the riots going on.
10:48But, yeah, I think Aaron Rodgers is always a deep thinker, and he always makes a lot of sense, even
10:53though sometimes we all have to scratch our head to get to actually what he's trying to say and what
10:58he actually means.
10:59So, I think he enjoyed it.
11:01And any time you win, you're going to come away with a smile on your face.
11:05I'd be concerned about Aaron Glenn.
11:07I mean, he can't figure out how to call a timeout before the first half.
11:10How's he going to figure out a six-hour time change?
11:13Oh, boy, man, that would be a mess.
11:16It was all one week and all the teams.
11:18All right, Boomer, thank you as always.
11:20We'll talk to you again next week.
11:21All right, guys, have a great week.
11:23See you.
