JT/JB drama in Boston is reaching new levels. Did Jaylen Brown ask for a trade? List of demands??
Breaking down the rumors and the reality of NBA locker room dynamics. Let's hear from Brian Scalabrine
Transcript
00:00let's get to the audio so because i got a 781 text saying i don't i missed this yesterday here's
00:05what
00:06brian scalabrini said on a podcast about jalen brown going to the celtics and saying here's a
00:14list of demands or i want to be traded and i want to go to milwaukee here's what scal said
00:20my understanding of this thing is that he demanded to be traded not into the media but to the
00:26organization so this was what if this is what was out there do you actually then why would he be
00:32mad
00:32at jason tatum then that's what i said i don't understand like i think i think jalen brown lives
00:37in his own reality but because it wasn't being documented that he demanded to be traded then i
00:42don't think that anybody anybody thinks that that he could now he could say that it was tatum's fault
00:49like he could just make stuff up but my understanding is jalen brown went to the organization and had a
00:53list of demands and if it was like you either do this or you trade me and he was rooting
00:58to get
00:58traded to milwaukee including calling some other teammates about hey man what do you think of
01:03milwaukee we should go there my my point of all this is like if you're actually doing that and you're
01:08going to say that tatum is the one that's lying like your whole basis of this thing is a lie
01:15so that is spicy i'm juicy and spicy i'll do my other lead but here's why i say it looks
01:22bad for
01:22the team because we all have been going or at least me have been going back and forth of why
01:29the hell
01:30wouldn't you trade for janice who's averaging damn near 30 a night right and everybody's like oh jb
01:37wasn't going up right walking i was saying that right yes yes and so this makes the team look bad
01:43in
01:43the sense that jb was asking players like hey who wants to come to milwaukee with me yeah so doesn't
01:51this now go back to the shams report where the celtics didn't want to throw hugo or shyman in
01:58to get yannis maybe so but it's a bad look if jalen's like i'll go to milwaukee it was also
02:06am i the one who
02:07who took it that way i mean i don't look at it that way but i can understand you looking
02:13at it
02:13that way okay so that's the only reason why i was like oh man this is crazy and then curtis
02:18why would
02:19you guess that if the team if he's doing this to curry favor why did he then walk it back
02:24during the
02:24broadcast last night a little bit because he heard from across the league saying whatever you're being
02:30told is nonsense but who who's he hearing from what i don't know i i have no idea i know
02:37but you
02:38you when you when you ask me things you want me to explain he did but why would he walk
02:42it back you
02:42tell me i'm asking you no i'm asking for your opinion as to why he walked it back i think
02:49he
02:49walks it back because it makes the team look bad yeah yeah i think the team went to scowl and
02:55said hey
02:55like let's relax a little bit on this because everybody knows scouse plugged in like everybody
03:00knows he trained so why did he report it yesterday i don't know i think you're right curtis like i
03:05think
03:06he thought it would benefit the team he thought it was a positive thing so he was going to do
03:10it and
03:11put it out there and then the team was like saw the blowback was like dude right because they were
03:15saying they said we had this thing at level lamb chop and now you're elevating it to level uh prime
03:24rib
03:25here like like dial it back a little bit i thought that mark spears yesterday had the best analysis
03:34like i i feel like we actually hit yesterday on the exact tone of what this relationship devolved into
03:43and for the 30th time i don't think jalen and jason are really at odds with each other personally
03:52i think that the the issue is the organization's treatment of one versus the other and that what
04:00we heard yesterday what's been great about this feud is that it's forced some of the real like
04:07independent individual incidents that created massive amounts of tension like jason tatum being
04:14announced last when he returned and that you're jalen brown and i'm not saying he's right or wrong but i
04:21understand it you've carried the team for 60 games you're in the two seed or whatever you were at the
04:27time and jason tatum comes back and immediately he's the guy again wow i mean strong allegation
04:35right from scowl now he did sort of walk it back during the game last night did he ever say
04:40that
04:40tatum actually didn't find out before he was told by shams because that's what people are saying is a lie
04:47no he never said at least from what i heard but i didn't hear the whole thing about him saying
04:52the
04:53the when tatum found found out what do you think was on the list of demands if there was one
04:59he wanted
04:59to be introduced last uh i mean maybe he wanted and i had i asked courtney this question off air
05:08i said do you think he wanted he wanted first access to the cold tub he might have i love
05:14you greg but
05:14this is rich coming from a guy on the greg hill show well curtis somebody said that your new villain
05:21role is that you're suddenly you're suddenly anti-tatum you're quoting game dog now okay so no i'm not
05:28i'm not quoting anything i'm not saying that i think jason tatum and jalen brown their issues aren't
05:35with each other their issues are with the organization i agree so then 90 percent of that so then jalen
05:42brown should stop putting a blue cap emoji on things that jason tatum it's true he was lying he
05:48thinks jason tatum is a mouthpiece for the organization and that that that the pr conversation
05:54is all about how the celtics protect jason tatum like if he hasn't that would be like somebody saying
06:01i have an issue with the greg hill show they then have an issue with you yeah you know like
06:06the the they
06:07have a an issue with the organization but the front-facing guy of that organization is also
06:12going to take some of the right but i i think that jalen brown and jason tatum situation it obviously
06:19was started by the organization of those two guys uh of the organization not treating those guys equal
06:26right and then the way it bleeds off into tatum and brown i just think it becomes some of the
06:33little
06:34stuff that is subliminally said i have to subjugate my ego and do things that i know i might not
06:42want
06:43to do but i have to do them i have to sacrifice and that's like lightweight taking you know it's
06:49a
06:49little shade of i'm always doing it jt's not doing that and so jt hears it he doesn't say anything
06:55but
06:56he starts you know he's keeping receipts and then jalen brown says best season ever look at the
07:02offensive production and where we rank as a team and that's another shade and jason tatum's and then
07:08receipts and then jason tatum says you know what i don't always have to be the smartest guy in the
07:13room that's shade that's a receipt that jalen brown so it that's where their little issue comes from
07:20yeah i think jalen brown like many confident people sometimes do went to them and said these are my
07:28demands this is what i want or you can trade me right and he didn't think they were going to
07:33trade
07:34him okay can we hear can we hear from the the preeminent expert of the nba a man that wiggy
07:40says
07:40is infallible well i'd say infallible i said i believe them on the day after the trade i think the
07:47most honest things were stated right afterwards not when we can rewrite history this is what sham said
07:52after the jalen brown trade my understanding is jalen brown throughout all this never requested a trade
07:57he never asked out of boston this was all the celtics thank you okay i got no issues with that
08:03i don't know scowl your thoughts so i why did you refute that in real time scowl i would say
08:09this
08:10and this is why i said right because you guys didn't believe shot uh believe shams when i said
08:15he's the one who said that you said when has he ever been wrong about no no no no no
08:19no i said sham said
08:20that the the celtics did not want to throw shaman or hugo in for the honest trade and i
08:27and i cited a report that he got wrong and you said wait that was not about an actual trade
08:31you
08:32guys poo-pooed that right and i'm like all right well that's my opinion i believe what shams is
08:36saying so you know who you know don't throw bombs you know who didn't poo-poo it shine yeah
08:43he's having trouble in that but here's the only here's the only i can feel it like greg gurgling in
08:49my
08:49stomach it's like stop stop no here's the only did you bring that hey i want to be out no
08:55i i'm
08:56i'm specifically not doing anything to help myself right now so i don't have to leave in the middle of
09:01this program because otherwise i may be out for 10 or 15 minutes you want some blueberries they are
09:05fantastic excellent antioxidants right through you they will run right through you yeah i mean it will
09:10yeah again if you want me to do that i know i haven't had anything well that's an issue okay
09:15go
09:15ahead no i was just saying why i said so somebody please tell me scowl never throws bombs why would
09:22he throw this bomb well he threw it and then he backed it up like an hour later i trust
09:26i trust
09:27sean's bomb i didn't ask you i you always do it why would scowl throw this bomb because the whoopee
09:32of the organization was taking heat and the celtics mascot on the broadcast brian scalabrini
09:38said that this is what happened as a means to take heat off of jason tatum of course so then
09:43why
09:43would he have to walk it back if the celtics are cool with it because he then took heat personally
09:47and didn't want to deal with it i don't think the celtics told him to go ahead and say that
09:51i think
09:51scalabrini took it upon himself that he thought he was putting the the organization in a good light
09:56and it backfired on him right i would say why would it backfire i don't think he just reports this
10:01you
10:02think he just like oh i thought of this today i'm just gonna throw it out into the ether so
10:06but why
10:06would why would it backfire if the organization is cool with it what where was the backfire because he's
10:12doing a national show on sirius i know but i don't necessarily know if the organization was
10:16cool with it that's what i'm saying i don't think the organization told him to go ahead and say that
10:19i think scalabrini said it i guess the question is how does this make the organization look bad
10:25well because i think you've got one of your star players that was then going around asking other
10:30players to leave with him to go to milwaukee and that then the team didn't take him up to get
10:34janice here don't you think people would rather have janice here right now than
10:37so paul george so the way the team looks bad is because of the shams report that they didn't
10:44want to throw hugo and shyman in the deal to get janice sure if you believe that those two right
10:50right connected yes but if you don't believe that then how does the team look bad from scal saying this
10:56it doesn't look bad on the their side at all i didn't say the team look i think i think
11:00brian
11:00scalabrini was saying something that would benefit a guy that he covers on a daily basis as a i'm not
11:07saying i would do it differently if i were scalabrini i'm just saying that as his role it's very
11:12different than shams role but you have to take things with a grain of salt and you have to take
11:16the timing in which they are dispersed also with a grain of salt that this came out when it did
11:21makes
11:22me question it entirely why make something bad i think with regard to janice uh-huh and nobody knows
11:29except for brad what happened there but i think that they had seen they had two stars who could no
11:36longer get along i agree we all agree with that i agree with that 100 percent and they and this
11:41happens in our business happens in other businesses two people who are both good at what they do they
11:49just don't get along anymore right and so it's the obligation of the organization to go and find
11:55somebody that can interact with one of the two of them they chose jason tatum and then they went and
12:00chose paul george because they know that that's going to be a fit when it comes to jason tatum maybe
12:06yannis wouldn't be you know so i that's what i think happened there i think that they that brad did
12:12what he thought was the best thing for the organization and that yannis and tatum might have had the same
12:18issues that brown and tatum yeah but yannis wanted to come to boston based on the reports that you heard
12:24and he's sitting down there in miami on an own four team and and all i i guess the whole
12:29thing with
12:29this is my thing is this doesn't like before he says it i don't get why scow would say go
12:38all right
12:38i'm gonna make up this huge lie and and then i'm and then it potentially is gonna backfire on me
12:44and
12:44now i sit here i don't think he made up a huge lie i think that like we've said scow
12:48is very connected
12:49within the organization i think he heard rumblings about this i don't think that he went out there
12:53and spewed a lie like i think that he truly wanted to be treated equally and that was never going
13:01to
13:01happen because it's impossible to treat two people equally so you believe what scow said was a lie
13:07right i don't believe that jaylen brown said i want to be traded right i think he said i want
13:12to be
13:12treated equally i think you can infer and i think he has scow has plausible deniability
13:18that that meant trade me and that he never thought the organization was going to carry
13:22through with it as greg has said i this is one of those weird cases where i think everybody's kind
13:27of right yeah like i i don't think anybody looks good i don't think it's entirely anybody's fault
13:32yeah jaylen and jason were tired of each other jaylen was never going to be jason in the eyes of
13:38the
13:38organization the organization was never going to allow jaylen to supersede jason there was a million
13:43things that could have transpired but where we ended up was probably the worst possible
13:47situation
13:48situation
