00:02I think she's so many people's only safety net.
00:05She's a phenomenal woman.
00:06When she was in her 30s and in her 20s,
00:10she was advocating for transgender rights,
00:12and to this day, she still does that.
00:15Majors told me she really doesn't care
00:16whether you call her he or she.
00:19She's a mother, she's a father,
00:21she's a grandmother, a grandfather,
00:23she's a little bit of everything.
00:24I feel like she's like deeply genderqueer in this way.
00:27Like someone will be like, you're a woman,
00:28and she'll be like, I'm a wonder woman.
00:30I wonder what kind of woman I am.
00:31When you're around Ms. Major,
00:33she will stop the whole world to look at you
00:36and to really see you.
00:38Mother was sure that next year was going to be the year
00:41I became the man I was supposed to be.
00:44I am the man I'm supposed to be.
00:46I'm lovely, you know?
00:50Prisons are basically a concentrated torture situation
00:54for a lot of trans women.
00:55I was ridiculed, I was raped.
00:58Nobody knew that we existed.
01:00And they really didn't give a damn how we were treated.
01:03I've seen her sit up there and buy money orders
01:06and putting monies on people's books.
01:09I'm like, you don't even know these people.
01:11Yes, I do.
01:12They're trans and they're in jail.
01:14That's enough.
01:15There's girls in prison who need to hear from us,
01:18who need to know that somebody out here gives a damn
01:21whether they live or die.
01:22She deserves to be recognized for what she does in our community.
01:27I hope each and every one of you, when you leave here
01:29and anyone says, oh, I'm here about the GLBT.
01:34No, no, no, motherfucker.
01:35T comes first.
01:39She is our leader.
01:41She is showing us how to do this work.
01:44So thank you so much, Ms. Major.
01:45I want things better for everybody, not just my community.
01:49And if they would accept my community just for who they are,
01:53it would be better for everybody.
01:55She loves unconditionally and without judgment.
01:59She is the blueprint for our liberation.
02:02It has ensured that the path that I walk on,
02:06that we all walk on, is less rocky because she exists.
02:10We have to look out for one another because we're all we got.
02:13And the thing is, when the dust settles,
02:15I want a whole bunch of transgender girls to stand up and say,
02:17I'm still fucking here.
