00:07According to government figures, nationwide coverage has risen from 63% in 2017 to 83%.
00:15But excess remains uneven.
00:17In the northwestern region of Karakal, Pakistan, an Asian Development Bank-supported project is upgrading water supply infrastructure across several
00:26districts.
00:26In Nukus district, residents describe how access to water has changed.
00:38In this district, the project includes three water distribution facilities, 35 kilometers of main pipelines and more than 260 kilometers
00:49of distribution networks.
00:50A new laboratory has also been established to test water quality locally.
01:10In the neighboring Amudarya district, a new water treatment facility has been commissioned in Manghut, drawing its water from the
01:18Amudarya river.
01:37According to the ADB, the facility currently supplies around 20,000 cubic meters of water a day.
02:08According to local officials, around half of Amudarya district's population had access to the drinking water.
02:15network before the last improvements.
02:18Work on approximately 355 kilometers of pipelines is continuing with the aim of increasing coverage to 80%.
02:25For most people, clean drinking water starts with turning on a tap.
02:30But behind this simple action, there is an entire system.
02:33In Karakal, Pakistan, upgrading that system is more than infrastructure.
02:37It's making a safe drinking water a reliable part of everyday life.
