00:00Hello, once again, everyone. This is the K2R2, otherwise known as the K2 Retro Second, and today's review is going
00:06to be a great one. This is going to be a great review today.
00:10And what game am I reviewing today? Well, I'm going to be reviewing Sonic Racing Cross Worlds Year One.
00:16Can you believe it? Year One has come to an end, and we got a bunch of great content. Like,
00:23lots of good content here.
00:24So, oh boy. It's going to be a lot to dig in today for this review. So, let's get started.
00:33So, before I get into the Year One DLCs, both free and purchased, I'm going to get into the base
00:41game.
00:41So, what is Sonic Racing Cross Worlds? Sonic Racing Cross Worlds is a game, it's a racing game, that, in
00:48my opinion, is much better than Mario Kart.
00:51Okay, I see it as the best Mario Kart alternative ever. Is it perfect? No. Is it a great game?
00:58Yes.
01:01So, I've got to say, for a game, this is really awesome, for a racing game, you know?
01:08So, the objective of the game is you're winning a race, but here's the thing.
01:13On lap two, you go to a different location, which is called a cross world.
01:19And I thought that was a pretty cool mechanic, where on the second lap, you know, you're not going through
01:25the track a second time.
01:26You're actually going through a cross world.
01:28So, you have the choice. So, you've got to be in first place owner to pick the cross world, right?
01:32So, you have the choice of going to a cross world or a random track.
01:38Now, obviously, when you pick the cross world, you're going into that said cross world.
01:42But if you're picking random track, you actually go into a surprise thing.
01:49You're never going to know what you're going to get, right?
01:50You'll never know what you get in these random tracks.
01:53You know, I like the element of surprise that they have in this game, and that is pretty awesome.
01:58That's pretty beautiful.
02:00The single player stuff, let's get into that.
02:03You know, even though I like the mechanic, of course, I've got to get into the stuff that they have
02:08in Sonic Racing's base game content.
02:12So, let's talk about it.
02:13So, the base game content is pretty good.
02:18Pretty good.
02:19You've got your race park, which is, I heard it's recommended for like two to four players,
02:25but you can actually play this in single player nonetheless, really.
02:29And you also have your Grand Prix mode.
02:33And, yeah.
02:34You got some good stuff.
02:35You know, you can also unlock AI skins for the racers.
02:39You can unlock some base game content in the game, which is pretty cool.
02:44So, yeah.
02:46I definitely think the base game is pretty fun.
02:49I had a lot of fun playing.
02:50In fact, I was addicted to Sonic Racing Cross Worlds.
02:53Like, no freaking joke.
02:55I was freaking addicted to that game.
02:58It was fun.
02:59It was really fun.
03:01I had a lot of fun playing that.
03:03And I'm going to continue having fun playing Sonic Racing Cross Worlds.
03:07Like, just, it's amazing.
03:10It's an amazing Mario Kart alternative, really.
03:15So, now for the other content, right?
03:19So, of course, you have the online mode.
03:21Now, the online mode is where you get to play online with your friends or you can play in different
03:27lobbies and stuff like that.
03:28So, I usually play the world match for the most part.
03:31But they also have friend matches.
03:33And also, if you look on their event calendars that they post on their Twitter every day.
03:37No, not every day.
03:38Every month, actually.
03:39That's what I meant to say.
03:42You see, they have different festivals.
03:45And the Legend Competition, which, honestly, I don't really care about.
03:49But, I mean, I would care more for the festivals.
03:52Because at least the festivals were more fun in teams.
03:55So, pretty much what a festival is, you know, when they put out something new, they would do a festival
04:01dedicated to it.
04:03And this is where you can unlock some decals, new horns, new titles.
04:09Well, I think that some festivals were kind of lackluster.
04:12There were some okay ones, too.
04:14I definitely played the Miku one.
04:16I definitely enjoyed the Pac-Man one.
04:18You know, I thought it was fun.
04:21You know, I thought it was a lot of fun.
04:22Um, so, you know, there's the festivals.
04:26I don't really care about the Legend Competition, so I'm not going to get into that.
04:30But, yeah, I had a lot of fun playing online for the most part.
04:33As I enjoyed the online mode more, really.
04:36So, you know, there's that.
04:39There's that.
04:41But now, I also want to get into some of the year one stuff.
04:45Well, actually, all the year one stuff that we got.
04:48But, and, I mean, some are good, some are alright, and some are just, ugh.
04:58Okay.
04:59But one of them.
05:00Not all of them.
05:02But, you know, I shouldn't say some or all.
05:05I should just say one.
05:07And it's in this very screen.
05:10But we'll get into that.
05:11We will get into that.
05:12But, so, let's get started with the free post-launch racers.
05:17Then we'll get into the season pass racers.
05:19So, these post-launch racers are actually free.
05:24Which are free DLC characters that they dropped.
05:29Now, the first drop they put up was Hatsune Miku.
05:34And I gotta say, Hatsune Miku was amazing.
05:37I actually customized the car for her when I play as Miku.
05:41And I usually pick that custom car.
05:43And, you know, I guess there are some people that probably like my vehicle.
05:47Which is pretty awesome.
05:49Oh, yeah.
05:50That's another thing I forgot, too.
05:51The car customization.
05:53Even though I don't really use that, I think the car customization is actually pretty cool.
05:57I don't really mess with it too much.
05:59But sometimes I do it, you know, just to have my car stand out.
06:03Or my character stand out.
06:04So, we don't go around confusing people.
06:09Yeah, there's that.
06:10So, you know, now with that one out of the way, I'll get into Miku.
06:14So, Miku was a pretty fun character.
06:16She has voice clips unlike the rest of the DLC characters.
06:20Which, by the way, if you saw my previous gameplay video on Sonic Racing Cross Worlds.
06:25I actually was using the Speak DLC mod.
06:29Which makes the DLC characters talk.
06:32So, I've actually been using that.
06:34You know, I mean, because, hey, if Sega's not going to do it officially, then, you know, I'll freaking do
06:39it.
06:40I'll download a mod where the character's talking and whatnot.
06:43So, there's that.
06:44So, Miku has voice clips.
06:47You know.
06:48And I like how she does the Sega!
06:51You know, sometimes when you pick her.
06:53And, you know, that's pretty amazing.
06:55You know, I like how they did Miku.
06:57I believe they did it justice.
06:58I definitely like Miku's outfit.
07:00I think she looks pretty cute in it.
07:01And, you know, that's what I got from Miku.
07:04You know, she's pretty fun to use.
07:06I had fun using that character.
07:08Next up is our boy Joker from Persona 5.
07:12Now, Joker, he is pretty cool.
07:14I like his vehicle.
07:15His vehicle is, like, just freaking cool.
07:19Okay?
07:20I definitely liked his Arsene wing.
07:22It is pretty amazing.
07:24It is just freaking awesome.
07:26Really, to say the least.
07:28And the most.
07:29I don't know why I said that just now.
07:31But, yeah.
07:32Joker was definitely a fun character.
07:34I definitely enjoyed his festival.
07:35And definitely enjoyed using the character quite a lot.
07:39Before the other DLCs.
07:41So, yeah.
07:42Next, we got Ichiban Kasuga.
07:45Okay.
07:45I don't really play like a dragon.
07:49But, I guess this is a fun addition, I guess, to some people.
07:52If you like Ichiban Kasuga, that's fine.
07:56If you guys like like a dragon, then this character is for you.
08:00Pretty cool.
08:01Next, we got Knights.
08:03And I thought Knights was a pretty fun addition to the roster as well.
08:07I know that Knights was in another Sonic racing game that I've played before.
08:10Not on this channel, but I've played prior to making this channel.
08:16Where this character was in Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed.
08:20Where Knights was the vehicle.
08:21But now here, Knights is riding a vehicle.
08:24And, you know.
08:26I thought it was pretty cool to have Knights on the roster.
08:28I thought it was pretty fun.
08:30Next, we got I.I. from Monkey Ball.
08:32And that was another fun addition as well.
08:35I didn't really care too much for the addition.
08:38But I thought it was okay.
08:39You know, I thought, you know, it was pretty ideal to have I.I. in there.
08:44You know, because if you're going to have Knights and some of the other Sega characters, you've got to have
08:47him.
08:48Right?
08:49And next, we got Tangle and Whisper.
08:52So, Tangle and Whisper, if you don't know who they are, they're from the Sonic the Hedgehog IDW comics.
08:59And, of course, you got Tangle the Lemur and Whisper the Wolf.
09:03Now, most of the time I pick Tangle, but sometimes I pick Whisper.
09:06But I think both of them are awesome.
09:08I really think they both were pretty awesome.
09:12So, next we got Red from Angry Birds.
09:18Okay.
09:19Now, I mean, I'm not opposed to this addition.
09:24But I do kind of question it a little because it's like, I mean, I don't know if Angry Birds
09:32is still popular or not.
09:33I mean, if you guys like Angry Birds, that's fine.
09:35I mean, I'm just saying my opinion on it.
09:37But, like I said, I'm not really that much into Angry Birds like I was used to.
09:42So, but it was an okay addition, I guess.
09:45I mean, it wasn't a bad addition or anything.
09:49And next we got Goro Majima.
09:52This is another Yakuza character.
09:54Eh, I mean, I personally don't really care about Yakuza to be honest with you guys.
09:59But if you guys like Yakuza and you guys like Goro Majima or Captain Majima, then, you know, I guess
10:07this character's for you.
10:08Have fun.
10:08And just like with Ichiban, if you like the Yakuza series, go for it.
10:13Next we got my girl Aro from Puyo Puyo.
10:16And Aro is freaking awesome.
10:19I definitely liked her Twinkle BioN car.
10:21I definitely liked they used the Puyo Puyo sound effects.
10:25I liked her victory theme that they used from Puyo Puyo 7.
10:29So, I definitely think that Aro was definitely a good addition to the roster.
10:34And it definitely makes good because, you know, Puyo Puyo was celebrating its anniversary this year, actually.
10:40And I am definitely excited.
10:42I was definitely excited when I saw Aro.
10:45And I'm like, oh yeah, the living dream really has come true.
10:48Because I know a lot of people wanted Aro in the game.
10:51So now we got Aro in the game and it was fun.
10:55I definitely had fun with it.
10:56But next we got Axel from Crazy Taxi.
10:59Now, I don't really play Crazy Taxi.
11:02Again, this is another addition I don't really care about, to be honest.
11:05But again, my opinion.
11:07You know, I don't want you guys getting frustrated at me over my opinion.
11:12But if you guys like Axel from Crazy Taxi, this character's for you.
11:18You know, if you always wanted Crazy Taxi and Sonic, there you go.
11:24If anything, if there was one Crazy Taxi character I did prefer to be in this game, that would be
11:29BD Joe.
11:30Like, BD Joe was freaking awesome.
11:32I like BD Joe.
11:35I think I kind of prefer him over Axel, to be honest.
11:38But, you know, that's just me.
11:39That's just me.
11:41And next we got Amigo from Samba di Amigo.
11:43He makes every day a Samba, right?
11:45I mean, if you play the Samba di Amigo games, you know who Amigo is.
11:49Now, Amigo has two variants, which is pretty awesome.
11:52He's got, you know, this current one and he's got the classic one.
11:55You can pick whichever Amigo variant you want.
11:58And his car is actually this train-looking vehicle, which is actually pretty nice.
12:02So, yeah.
12:04I thought Amigo was pretty alright.
12:06I have not really played as the character.
12:08But most of the time I've been playing the characters I like to play as, for my most part.
12:12I stick to my mains, okay?
12:13I stick to my mains.
12:14But, yes.
12:17Amigo was definitely fun.
12:20You know, definitely fun to see.
12:22Definitely fun addition to the game.
12:24You know, if you guys like Samba di Amigo, this character's for you.
12:28This character's for you.
12:29So, now we're going to get into the DLC racers.
12:33Like, the paid ones.
12:35Not the free ones.
12:36I already got into the free ones.
12:37We're going to get into the paid ones now.
12:40So, there were six franchises that were added to Sonic Racing.
12:44And they're not from Sega.
12:46But they are from other companies.
12:49So, it seems that Sega got the license from other companies to put their characters into the game.
12:54And, I guess it really makes Sonic Racing Cross Worlds live up to the name, right?
13:01I mean, we're crossing into other worlds.
13:03And we literally have other worlds crossing into this game.
13:07Like, you know, cross into a world of racing, right?
13:11Yeah.
13:12Mass Hysteria.
13:13So, let's get started with all six of these.
13:18I'm going to get into all six of these.
13:19And I'm going to tell you guys what I actually think of them.
13:22So, let's get started.
13:25First off, Minecraft.
13:28Really?
13:29And this is a criticism, by the way.
13:31Really?
13:32Do we really need to have Minecraft in this game?
13:36Yeah, we got to start off the DLC year one with a bummer.
13:40Obviously.
13:42Now, I don't even know what they were thinking when they were putting Minecraft in this.
13:47Because, let's just face it.
13:48Minecraft is cringe.
13:49It's boring.
13:50I don't like it.
13:52I don't know why they would even include that.
13:54I really don't know why.
13:56Honestly, Minecraft being in a crossover has been a bad idea ever since it was included in Smash Brothers.
14:03Okay?
14:05And, like, I don't even know why it's there.
14:08I really don't like the course.
14:10I don't like the characters.
14:12The minecart was a stupid idea to have.
14:16You know?
14:17And let me get into the minecarts real quick.
14:20I even noticed there were people online that were making, like, transgender flags on their minecarts or whatever.
14:27And I'm like, oh.
14:30Like, every time I see these,
14:33I can't help but groan.
14:35I can't.
14:36Every time I see these Minecraft characters,
14:39I groan.
14:40I cringe.
14:42I just do not like it.
14:44I hate it.
14:46So, there's your criticism right there.
14:49I do not like Minecraft.
14:52And I think it was a terrible addition.
14:54And I think that was a terrible way to start the year one DLC.
14:59But, things got a little better.
15:01So, things got a little better with DLC 2.
15:07And DLC 2 is SpongeBob SquarePants.
15:11So, SpongeBob SquarePants includes the characters SpongeBob and Patrick.
15:15And their course is Bikini Bottom, of course, from the show.
15:20So, and what do I think of this DLC?
15:22Well, I actually thought it was pretty fun.
15:25I thought it represented the show very well.
15:28Of course, they cannot use music from the show.
15:30But they did do original compositions.
15:33Made for Sonic Racing Cross Worlds to give the feel of SpongeBob SquarePants.
15:38And that was really awesome.
15:39That was really awesome.
15:40That is definitely what I liked about the SpongeBob DLC.
15:44So, you know, SpongeBob SquarePants.
15:46I thought that was a fun addition to Sonic Racing Cross Worlds.
15:50Yeah.
15:51I definitely think you guys should try it.
15:54And, yeah.
15:56SpongeBob SquarePants.
15:58So, next we got Pac-Man.
16:00My favorite of the bunch.
16:02I love Pac-Man.
16:05I'm technically a fan of the franchise.
16:07Alright?
16:07I love Pac-Man.
16:09Now, Pac-Man is one of my favorite video game characters and franchises.
16:13And to see him in this game is pretty awesome.
16:16Definitely reminds me of Mario Kart Arcade Grand Prix.
16:19Where they did include Pac-Man as a playable character.
16:22But that's exclusive to Arcade Grand Prix 1, 2, and DX.
16:26Where they had Pac-Man as a playable character.
16:28Now, here in Sonic Racing Cross Worlds.
16:30Now we get Pac-Man as a playable character.
16:33And not only that.
16:35But we also have the ghosts.
16:38And, obviously.
16:39Inky, Pinky, and Clyde.
16:41Are variants for Blinky.
16:43Because, obviously, they're ghosts.
16:44And they have the same stats as each other.
16:47Their vehicle is pretty fun.
16:49You know, I thought it was just as cool as the Spongebob vehicle.
16:53Which, by the way, let me get into that real quick.
16:55The Spongebob vehicle was actually the Paddy Wagon.
16:58Which I thought was a good representation of the Spongebob Squarepants movie.
17:03That was a pretty good representation of that right there.
17:05Some good references.
17:06Even the trailer had some references to Spongebob Squarepants and the memes.
17:10Thought it was pretty funny.
17:12But, yeah.
17:12Pac-Man.
17:13Back to this.
17:14I thought the Pac-Man mobile was pretty amazing.
17:16I like how they put the Pac-Man logo on it.
17:19You know, the tires have Pac-Man on it.
17:22And, yeah.
17:24There's that.
17:27Now, let's get on to DLC 4.
17:30Mega Man.
17:32So, Mega Man was definitely another cool addition.
17:35Now, it's obvious that Sega got the license from Capcom.
17:38And, I guess they must have had some relationship there to have Mega Man.
17:42And, I thought that was a good way to represent Mega Man.
17:45So, you have two characters.
17:46Just like with the Pac-Man and Spongebob.
17:49You have Mega Man and Proto Man.
17:51Also known in Japan as Rock Man and Blues.
17:54Now, I thought having Mega Man in this game was awesome.
17:57Because, again.
17:58The Blue Blur meets the Blue Bomber.
18:01They both met in Smash Bros.
18:03They met in the comic books.
18:05So, it's really fitting that they would race against each other in this game.
18:08You know?
18:09It's very fitting to have these two race against one another.
18:12It's pretty awesome.
18:14Now, the vehicle they really come with is actually the Rush Roadstar.
18:17Which is Rush the Dog himself.
18:19Which, I thought that was pretty cool that they referenced.
18:22What was it called?
18:23I think Battle and Chase, I believe it's called on the PlayStation.
18:26I thought that was a pretty cool addition to have for Mega Man.
18:29Now, my only criticism for this is they didn't include Proto Man's signature vehicle.
18:34I don't know why they couldn't include that.
18:36I guess maybe Capcom probably decided something with their partnership there on that one.
18:43I don't know.
18:44I don't know.
18:45NDA stuff, I guess.
18:47But, it's still cool to see Proto Man in the game.
18:50I actually was expecting Roll more than Proto Man.
18:54But, hey, that's just me.
18:56So, yeah.
18:58Either way.
18:59Oh, yeah.
19:00I also like to mention, I definitely like the remixes that they have of both Pac-Man and Mega Man.
19:06So, when you select Pac-Man, you actually have the remix of the Pac-Man theme song.
19:11And, you got a remix of the Mega Man 2 theme, which I guess that's okay.
19:18I mean, after all, Mega Man 2 is a very popular entry in the franchise.
19:22So, it's only fitting to have Mega Man 2 music in this game, right?
19:28And, their stage for Mega Man and Proto Man is Wily Castle.
19:32Which is actually the final boss area in Mega Man 2.
19:35And, you got quite a good remix of Wily Castle.
19:39A really good remix of Wily Castle.
19:42So, yeah.
19:44I thought that was pretty fun.
19:46Alright.
19:47DLC 5.
19:48We're getting close to the end.
19:50So, here we go.

19:53Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem.
19:55Now, um.
19:57Okay.
19:58Now, I will admit, I did see the movie.
20:00It was a pretty alright movie.
20:03But, I do have a few positives and one criticism.
20:08Well, actually two, actually.
20:11So, let's get started.
20:14So, I definitely like how they brung the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
20:18That, you know, that's good.
20:21I liked how they brung their New York City course with them.
20:25That's also good.
20:26I definitely like the music as well.
20:28Where you have them on the character select screen.
20:30You're hearing, like, DJ music.
20:31That's pretty cool.
20:32That's very fitting.
20:33And you have, um.
20:35Nice music for the New York City course.
20:37And you have the, um.
20:39The results menu.
20:40Which.
20:41Is pretty awesome.
20:42Definitely reminded me of the TMNT theme song.
20:44You know.
20:44Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
20:47Though.
20:47I will criticize one thing, though.
20:51So, um.
20:53So, my first criticism is obviously the character models.
20:59Like, the character models don't really look good.
21:03To be honest.
21:04I mean, okay.
21:05Their vehicle, the Pizza Fire van, looks great.
21:07But the character models don't.
21:11And I, I really do not know why the character models look this bad.
21:17Like.
21:19I don't know.
21:20They, they just look pretty uncanny, to be honest with me.
21:23Well, to be honest with you guys, really.
21:25But.
21:26I mean.
21:28I guess.
21:30I guess it would have to do for them, then.
21:34So.
21:36But.
21:37Another thing I would question.
21:40Um.
21:40With this.
21:42Is.
21:43I really don't know why Paramount had to over-represent themselves here.
21:46I mean.
21:47They got themselves, like, three DLCs of their franchises.
21:50Feels a bit over-representing.
21:53But.
21:54I mean.
21:55That's just me.
21:56That's how I see it as.
21:57And I know some people.
21:59In the Crossroads community.
22:00See this.
22:01As a criticism as well.
22:02So.
22:04Yeah.
22:04I mean.
22:06That was my one problem with year one.
22:08That I just got into.
22:10But.
22:11You know.
22:12It is what it is.
22:13You know.
22:14They gave us what they gave us.
22:15And that's that.
22:17But.
22:18Um.
22:19So.
22:19Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
22:20Mutant Mayhem.
22:21Not a bad DLC.
22:22But the character models could have used some more work.
22:24Is all I can say.
22:26Because the character models do not look that good.
22:29And last but not least.
22:31Is Avatar Legend.
22:32Which is based on the Avatar cartoon.
22:35So.
22:36You know.
22:37If you know the Nickelodeon cartoon of Avatar.
22:40Then.
22:41You know who Aang and Katara are.
22:43So.
22:44You have Aang and Katara.
22:45They come with Lion Turtle Island.
22:48From the Avatar series.
22:49And I thought their music was pretty good.
22:52I thought their music was pretty cool.
22:55You know.
22:56I thought it was pretty fun to listen to.
22:59Definitely liked how chill Lion Turtle Island looked and sounded.
23:02I definitely liked that level's mechanic actually.
23:05I should have mentioned that.
23:07There were actually some different mechanics of each of these levels.
23:10Because SpongeBob.
23:13You're going through.
23:14You know.
23:15Like Bikini Bottom.
23:17And you're going through like the Krusty Krab.
23:19Goo Lagoon.
23:20All those places.
23:21And Jellyfish Fields.
23:22You know.
23:23Like I said.
23:23Good representation of the show.
23:25Pac-Man.
23:25You're going through the village and the maze.
23:28Wily Castle.
23:31You know.
23:31You have the Mega Buster item that's exclusive to it.
23:34Oh yeah.
23:34And the Pac-Man level has Pac-Dots too actually.
23:37In place of the rings.
23:38You know.
23:38I thought that was pretty clever.
23:40And you know.
23:40Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles didn't really have much to offer.
23:43But that's okay.
23:44And then you have the Avatar.
23:46So.
23:46The Avatar had some pretty good mechanics.
23:49Right.
23:50And it's main mechanic was that you get to pick one or two paths.
23:53So you have the water and wind path.
23:56And you have the fire and earth path.
24:00Which I thought that was pretty awesome.
24:02And very good representation of the show.
24:06So.
24:07I thought the music was awesome.
24:09I thought the stage was awesome.
24:12And I like how they represented Aang and Katara.
24:15Even though I think they could have also added Korra in there.
24:17But hey.
24:17That's okay.
24:18At least we got what we got.
24:20Because Aang is indeed a classic character.
24:22Like he's a very popular Avatar character.
24:24You know.
24:26So.
24:26You know.
24:26After all.
24:27He is the main character of Avatar.
24:28So.
24:29There's that.
24:30So yeah.
24:31That does about.
24:32That about does it for year one.
24:34Pretty much.
24:35That's all she wrote for year one.
24:37So.
24:38My only criticism for year one.
24:40Was the Minecraft stuff.
24:41And the Paramount over-representation.
24:43And of course the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character models.
24:45But.
24:46At the very least.
24:47At least year one was fun.
24:49I had a lot of fun playing year one of the DLCs.
24:52Most of the time I've used Pac-Man.
24:54Tangle, Whisper, and Miku.
24:56And even Classic Sonic 2.
24:58Oh yeah.
24:59I forgot to mention.
25:00One of the free DLC characters was Classic Sonic.
25:03And they actually did that for the anniversary of Sonic.
25:05Which is pretty awesome.
25:06Though I really wish that Tangle, Whisper, and Classic Sonic.
25:10Had some voice lines.
25:12I really wish they did.
25:14Oh and I also forgot.
25:15Sonic Prime.
25:16So.
25:17As a bonus with Season Pass 1.
25:19You actually get.
25:20The Sonic Prime characters.
25:22Which are.
25:23Nine.

27:49They would put voice clips.
27:50For the DLC characters.
27:52And we don't have to freaking mod it.
