00:00Well, good afternoon, everyone. It's an honor and a privilege to be back in Houston. Thank you,
00:03Sylvia, for your continued and extraordinary leadership, friendship, and partnership. So
00:08appreciative of Representative Menifee, who's doing a tremendous job hitting the ground running
00:15on behalf of the people that he represents in this great city. Certainly to Elsa, thank you
00:20for welcoming us to your home, to SEIU headquarters here in Houston, and for all of the advocacy work
00:28that you do on behalf of hard-working communities here in this town and the work that SEIU does
00:36all across the country. Also thankful to be here with several distinguished elected officials and
00:42leadership here, civic leaders, union leaders, as well as small businesses. It was a very informative
00:50roundtable where we heard about the brutality and the fear that Trump's violent mass deportation
00:59machine has been creating here in Houston, similar to what has gone on all across the country.
01:07Taxpayer dollars should be used to make life more affordable for the people here in America,
01:13not to brutalize and kill American citizens or violently target and kill law-abiding immigrant
01:22communities, as was the case horrifically here in Houston just a few months ago. We believe that
01:31immigration enforcement should be fair, just, and humane. The Trump administration promised
01:37that immigration enforcement was going to target violent felons. That's not what's happening.
01:43Mass deportation machine unleashed by Donald Trump has been targeting law-abiding immigrant communities
01:52like those here in Houston, and it's got to end. Everything has become more expensive here in America
02:01because of Donald Trump's failed and toxic policies. The one big ugly bill ripped away Medicaid,
02:11from the American people. The one big ugly bill enacted the largest cut to nutritional assistance,
02:20$186 billion in American history, and at the same period of time gave ICE a $75 billion slush fund so
02:32that
02:33these taxpayer dollars could be used to brutalize and kill American citizens and law-abiding immigrant
02:41communities. It's unacceptable, unconscionable, and un-American. And as House Democrats, we're committed
02:49to getting the situation turned around. We know we have a broken immigration system. We know it needs to be
02:55fixed
02:56fixed in a comprehensive and bipartisan way. I'm thankful for the leadership of Sylvia Garcia and pushing forward with
03:03the Dream and Promise Act. That is just the beginning of what needs to happen in terms of getting this
03:12national
03:12nightmare that the people here in Houston and all across America have been experiencing and get to a much better
03:20place here in the
03:22United States of America, which will certainly include dramatic change as it relates to immigration
03:28enforcement and our continued commitment not to give a dime to Donald Trump's violent mass deportation machine.
