00:00Mersey Rail is backing proposals to tackle antisocial behaviour across its trains, as
00:06the government encourages local leaders to use powers for fines.
00:09Yeah, it's a bit loud when you're just relaxing on the transport, and someone's playing loud
00:16music.
00:17You know, there's other people on the transport who may need a little chill or whatever on
00:24the way home from work.
00:25I see why it is an issue, and why people might find it annoying that say they've had a long
00:30day at work, or they've got a long day ahead of them, and it's just draining, and as young
00:35people do, personally, sometimes, I find it quite funny to do that, like, but it's not
00:40the correct thing to do.
00:41I personally hate it, I do hate it, because I suffer with anxiety, and people talking,
00:48I don't know why they shout down the phone at each other, and I have asked people to
00:53turn it down in the end, and they have done.
00:55Me personally, I think it's obviously a disturbance, especially for, like, I mean, it's already
01:01loud enough for, like, children and, like, stuff like that.
01:04I think that it shows that if they're going to listen to music, get earphones, earphones,
01:11and put earphones in, so not the whole of the bus can hear you, or the train can hear
01:17you.
01:18It is really annoying, and elderly people might be really disturbed by it.
01:24The measures could mean penalties of up to £100 for playing music or videos allowed littering
01:30and vaping. The aim is to make public transport welcoming, while giving staff ways to deal
01:35with behaviour affecting passengers.
01:37The drivers tell them, just load it down, turn it off.
01:42It's impossible to police it. Who's going to police it? You can't ask the drivers to
01:47do it.
01:48I don't think it should be just, like, outright, like a £100 fine. I think it should be at least
01:54a warning first. And then if you're a repeat offender, then yeah.
01:57Maybe just threatening with a life fine.
02:00Vaping on public transport, that's like, there's measures against that, but that still happens
02:04all the time. So, is it going to be the same amount of, sort of, same way of going about
02:10it?
02:11Finding people when you've, it's like, for me, finding people who take the kids on holiday,
02:17out of school. You're already in a cost of living crisis. Why are you putting another bill
02:22on to someone? You know, unfortunately, it is what it is.
02:26I do think the more important problems to focus on, and it's just, reducing noise in
02:31the public space is not, like, the main priority. Just more stuff going on in public transport,
02:37they're not accessible, they're always late and all that. It's just, the fact that they're
02:41focusing on this, I think it's really disappointing.
02:45The proposals follow a campaign announced by Andy Burnham, who said people should use headphones
02:49rather than play sound aloud. The Prime Minister described loud music in videos as one of the
02:55most annoying things passengers experience.
