Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring eastern coastal states remained on high alert as the landfall process of a severe cyclonic storm got underway. Severe weather impacted several areas, with coastal regions like Konaseema witnessing wind speeds reaching 150 to 160 kilometres per hour accompanied by heavy rainfall, alongside high tides along beaches in Kakinada. The state administration reviewed preparedness and issued advisories urging residents to remain indoors, avoid non-essential travel, and prevent canal breaches to curb flooding. The government prioritised avoiding casualties and mitigating property and infrastructural destruction. While severe conditions battered coastal belts during the early hours, conditions showed signs of gradual easing following landfall as the system moved inland.

00:05Naidu also holds teleconference on Cyclone Urnab.
00:08He tells the officials saving lives is the top priority and we must minimize the loss of property.
00:15So, those are the priorities of the Andhra Pradesh government.
00:19Firstly, they are focusing on no loss of lives and secondly, they are also trying to minimize the loss of
00:25property
00:26because a trail of destruction is already being seen in several parts of the state.
00:30No report of casualties so far due to Cyclone and the Chief Minister has also said that
00:36we must prevent breaches in canals amid Cyclone.
00:41So, advisories have been issued by the Andhra Pradesh government.
00:44In fact, Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu is constantly monitoring and reviewing the situation.
00:49He is also holding this meeting with the officials where he has clearly stated that the priority,
00:53the top priority is saving lives.
00:55There should be no loss of lives due to Cyclone Urnab.
00:59And the second priority is to minimize the loss of property, the loss of, in fact, to minimize the destruction.
01:07So, infrastructural damage is what needs to be minimized, is also what the government is focusing on
01:14and Chandra Babu Naidu has also made an appeal to the people to remain indoors
01:19and, in fact, it is also said that people must avoid travel in view of Cyclone Urnab.
01:27Now, these are the kind of visuals that have emerged from Andhra Pradesh.
01:31You can see on the left, these are the visuals just from around 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.
01:37in Kona Seema when the wind speeds were as high as 150 to 160 kilometers and that was when the
01:44situation was the worst since yesterday.
01:46And not just wind speed, but you can also see how there is heavy rainfall as well.
01:50So, heavy rainfall accompanied by wind speeds up to 150 to 160 kilometers.
01:57That is when the landfall process was just starting.
02:01And these are the visuals from Kona Seema on the right.
02:04You can see those are the visuals from Kakinara.
02:06It's a beach in Kakinara.
02:08High tides are being seen in these parts in the eastern coastal states,
02:16not just in Andhra Pradesh, but Kuducherry also, Tamil Nadu also, Orisha also.
02:20But the situation now is getting better.
02:23The wind speed has also come down and there is no heavy rainfall that can be seen as of now.
02:30But the situation had started worsening since yesterday itself.
02:34But if you talk about the current situation in all these parts,
02:37be it Orisha, be it Andhra Pradesh, as our colleagues were reporting from the ground,
02:42the situation seems to be much calmer and better as of now.
02:46But of course, the next two to three hours are crucial
02:49because the landfall process is still underway.
02:51So, we'll keep an eye.
02:53We'll be getting you all those updates right from the ground,
02:56real-time updates, what's happening, how does it look like,
02:59what is the wind speed, what is the situation of the rainfall
03:02and also the damage that is being caused.
03:09So, these are the visuals that have so far come in from different parts of Andhra Pradesh
03:15as well as the other eastern coastal states also.
03:20These particular visuals are from Andhra Pradesh.
03:24On the left, these are the visuals from Kona Seema.
03:26Now, this is from around 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.,
03:29which is when the wind speeds were at the highest.
03:32Now, that is exactly the period when the landfall process had just begun
03:36and the eye of the storm was still away.
03:38That means that the pink region, the pink region around the eye of the storm,
03:43which is known as the eye wall,
03:45the regions that come under that pink region are the ones which are the worst impacted.
03:50That is where the wind speeds are the highest
03:52and that is exactly what was happening just a few hours ago in Andhra Pradesh
03:56when the eye of the storm was quite away, was a little away from the coast
04:00and the wind speed was the highest.
04:03Now that the eye of the storm has already hit the coast,
04:07the situation has become a little better
04:09and what we are also learning is that now,
04:12once the cyclone Arnab has already hit the coast,
04:16it will start weakening.
04:18So, if you talk about the trajectory of the cyclone,
04:23it will enter through Andhra Pradesh
04:25and it will then move towards Telangana
04:27and then it will move to the north.
04:30But it will keep on weakening.
04:31So, the impact would not be as strong as we were witnessing since yesterday.
04:37So, the impact will come down,
04:39the wind speed will come down
04:40and heavy rainfall can also stop in the coming few hours.
04:47So, the wind speed will be as strong as we are moving towards the west.
04:48So, the forest is going to come down there.
