00:01The Federal Court on Wednesday granted former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak permission to attend the hearing of a
00:09leave application he filed to revive his 1.9 million ringgit civil suit against former Attorney General Tanshri Tommy Thomas
00:17for alleged public misfeasance.
00:20The court allowed the application and issued an order to produce an instruction requiring prison authorities to produce Najib before
00:28the court for the hearing of the leave application as well as the substantive hearing of the appeal should the
00:35leave be granted.
00:36The hearing has been fixed on November 26th. Najib sued Thomas in 2021 alleging that he abused his power when
00:44prosecuting him.
00:45He said Thomas had allegedly acted with malicious intent when filing charges against him in relation to the 1MDB and
00:54IPIC cases.
00:56The charges included abuse of power and money laundering.
01:00In November 2022, the High Court allowed Thomas' application to strike out Najib's suit without going to a full trial.
01:08Najib filed an appeal against the High Court's decision, but the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal in January.
01:14The Appellate Court concurred with the High Court that the suit was clearly premature because the criminal case had not
01:21yet commenced when it was filed.
01:23In February, Najib filed the Notice of Motion to challenge the Court of Appeal's decision.
