00:00It's smooth sailing for residents of Wellcome Road now as the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government combined with
00:07the Kuba Tabakit Talparo Regional Corporation to do much needed remedial works on the major passageway in the Kanupia area.
00:15Minister Khadija Amin said the repairs have come as a relief to residents as it has made their travel more
00:20efficient and taken a lesser toll on their vehicles and she promised there's more work to be done.
00:26What we are going to do now is the sections that do not have drainage, the corporation will work with
00:32them to ensure that we establish at least earthen drains along the roadway.
00:38That way the water will run off safely and you will not have the water ponding, pooling to mash up
00:45the road again.
00:46Amin is also asking for citizens to be patient with the ministry with lack of resources providing a major hurdle
00:51in accomplishing some of the ministry's goals.
00:54We are asking people to be patient with us because we are in the process of identifying the most critical
00:59pieces of infrastructure that needs repairing when it comes to local government.
01:04We do not have, the country does not have the money to do the amount of work that we want.
01:10MP for Kairani East, Richard Sitcharan, laid the blame for the poor condition of the road on the PNM.
01:15This road was very, very bad for the last nine and a half years under the PNM government and myself
01:21as well as MP Gopi Singh at the time.
01:24We made constant representation asking for this road to be rehabilitated every year for nine and a half years.
01:30While Sitcharan says the road has been in bad condition for nine and a half years,
01:34residents who spoke with TV6 off camera said Wellcome Road had actually been in a poor state for over 15
01:40years.
