00:00Six persons are assisting the TTPS with their investigations into the fire that destroyed $20 million worth of TSTT cable
00:08from its Laventil compound over the weekend.
00:11DCP Operations Suzette Martin says the TTPS's response to the firebombing of the TSTT storage facility over the weekend is
00:18not about targeting any community in particular.
00:21Our police and response is not directed against communities. Our response is directed against criminal behavior.
00:30We recognize that overwhelming majority of residents are hardworking, low-abiding citizens who want safe neighborhoods, opportunities for their families
00:41and communities to be free from violence and intimidation.
00:46Martin says the police's job has only just begun as investigations are ongoing.
00:50She is adamant that it is our responsibility as a nation to take care of critical infrastructure and she issues
00:57a stern warning to anyone engaged in nefarious activities.
01:01Protecting critical infrastructure is not simply a security responsibility, it's a national responsibility.
01:10We will continue to collaborate with our public and private sector partners to strengthen prevention, preparedness and response.
01:22Additionally, I also want to send a clear message to those engaged in criminal activity, arson, violence, intimidation and the
01:33deliberate destruction of property will not be tolerated.
01:36The DCP also thanked the Trinidad and Tobago fire service for their hard work.
01:41Our firefighters worked under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions to contain and extinguish a fire involving highly combustible materials.
01:56Their commitment, professionalism, and bravery deserve our highest commendation.
02:04Divisional fire officer Dexter Hodge said the fire service responded in the nick of time and were able to avert
02:11a catastrophic disaster.
02:12We would have actually brought under control approximately $20 million in TSTT assets and this does not underscore the savings
02:26we would have provided by defending and protecting $300 million in excess of Angostura assets.
