00:58that's been exposed.

03:19Here on India Today, we've been tracking closely the updates that have come in
03:23on the Kochi hit and run and questions of a cover-up,
03:27questions of lapses in the investigation.
03:29Joining us here on India Today for an exclusive conversation
03:32is the Home Minister of Kerala, Mr. Ramesh Chenitala.
03:36Mr. Chenitala, namaskaram.
03:37Thank you very much for your time, first of all, sir.
03:40And I will begin by appreciating the fact that you have been extremely transparent
03:45in the manner in which this investigation has taken place
03:49and in conceding that there have been lapses.
03:51To you, Mr. Chenitala, what were those lapses that you discovered in the investigation?
04:00Now, first of all, when this incident happened, an FAR has been filed.
04:05In that FAR, there was not, culpable homicide was not included, 304.
04:10That was one of the biggest lapses.
04:13Number two, one policeman was trying to erase the important evidences from the mobile phone.
04:19And also, when this boy has been taken to the juvenile justice court,
04:26they had not properly presented the case.
04:28See, these three, four issues were agitating in my mind.
04:32Then I given the strong instruction to the DGP that this is not at all acceptable
04:38and the victim has to be given and their family has to be given justice.
04:43Whoever it may be, if judge or a common man, the justice has to be given to everybody equally.
04:50Law is equal to everybody.
04:53So, strong action has been taken.
05:12Strong action has been taken by the government in this regard because we are with the victim's family.
05:19And an innocent man who was riding a scooter after closing down his shop has been hit and the sport
05:26he died.
05:27So, and also the judge, he is not supposed to go to the police station and sit there for two,
05:35three hours.
05:36Yes.
05:36Why he has gone there?
05:38A judge can go to the police station for an official function, but not as this.
05:44And that was also unwarranted.
05:46And that also created a lot of suspicion among the people and the family.
05:52So, this was the situation.
05:54That is why the government has taken very strong action on this.
05:58And we are with the family, victim's family.
06:00Whatever we can do, we will try to help them and try to give them justice.
06:08Mr. Chenitala, I will repeat this again.
06:10That it's very rare that you see a politician with a conscience, unfortunately,
06:14that a minister who takes his job so seriously that you immediately cracked the whip, sir.
06:18And that's great to see that the government has acted in the manner that it has.
06:21But, Mr. Chenitala, you did highlight that the Kochi police top cop has also been suspended.
06:27There's been action taken against him.
06:28Were you disappointed, sir, where you learnt of the manner in which the police handled this case?
06:36Because when a poor man who was riding, after closing his shop and riding in a scooter,
06:42he has been hit and the police has not taken cognizance of that.
06:47And they have taken very flimsy, they have incorporated flimsy sections in the FAR.
06:54When I came to know about that, it is my duty not to protect those people who are trying to
07:02erase the evidences.
07:04It is my duty to protect the interest of the victim's family.
07:08As prime minister, it is my bounden duty to protect the interest of the victim.
07:14We are with the victims, not with the police who had done injustice to the family.
07:20That is why I suspended four of them.
07:23We cannot accept that kind of a...
07:25And a minor, how can he go drive a Ben's car and in the night at 2 o'clock, 2
07:33o'clock,
07:33and there was heavy rain in that area.
07:37And even if he is a...
07:40And his father is a judge, so he should have taken care of the minor,
07:46not to drive in a car.
07:48He doesn't have a license also.
07:50So how can you drive a car like this?
07:53So, and judge cannot go to the police station and dictate the police to do
07:59according to his whims and fancies, that we cannot accept it.
08:03Sir, today what we have also seen is that the father, the judge who you are referring to,
08:08has been granted bail.
08:10Because the court says he is not at flight risk, that he will cooperate with the investigation.
08:14You started off saying that the message is that the law is equal for all.
08:18But when we see these kind of circumstances,
08:21in which, you know, you have got one reprieve, one respite after another,
08:24happening for the accused's family, it is disappointing, sir.
08:27And then that question comes up,
08:29is the law truly equal for all?
08:30It doesn't seem to be the case.
08:35Yeah, the law is equal for everybody.
08:38Justice has to be done to the people who are suffering.
08:41That is my attitude and my thinking.
08:43And not only that,
08:44we have registered a case against the judge immediately
08:47and sent it to the registrar of Kerala High Court
08:51about the... about his... about this case.
08:55And also, we filed a petition in the Higher Court
08:59against the judgment of the Juvenile Justice Court
09:04which was granting bail to the minor.
09:08That is coming tomorrow.
09:10And also,
09:11this...
09:13bail is given by the High Court
09:15only up to Friday.
09:17Friday, the final judgment will come.
09:19We are waiting for that.
09:20And our prosecution is arguing properly
09:24and monitoring... we are monitoring the case.
09:27If he will get complete bail,
09:29then we... our... the option before us
09:32is to go to the division bench
09:35and fight the case there.
09:38Sir, do you hope that with the kind of action
09:41that the Kerala government...
09:42I'm not going to bring up what the courts have done
09:44because that's not in your hands.
09:45But with the action that the Kerala government has taken
09:47and that you as Home Minister have taken,
09:49do you hope that this particular case
09:51and the steps of cracking down on the police
09:54ensuring the investigation is fair
09:55serves as an example
09:57to anyone else who believes
09:59that with the kind of influence they have,
10:01with the kind of power and privilege they have,
10:03they can get away with the worst crime, sir?
10:05Do you hope this serves as an example?
10:10You know, law will be equal to everybody.
10:13Even if a judge or a poor tea shop owner,
10:19everybody, they are all citizens of this country.
10:22Law cannot be...
10:24cannot be unequal for everybody.
10:27So that is why we are fighting for the family.
10:30That is why we are fighting for the victims' argument
10:33and their demand.
10:35We are with the demand of the victims' family.
10:38We will fight to the last.
10:40My final question to you, Mr. Chenithala,
10:42is in Malayalam.
10:43If you can give an assurance to the victims' family.
10:46Or a person in Malayalam,
10:48or a person in Malayalam?
11:17Thank you very much, Mr. Ramesh.
11:19Ramesh Chenithala for joining us.
11:21Like I said, we appreciate the fact that as Home Minister,
11:24you've stepped in, not just taken accountability,
11:26but ensured that anyone who let the accused get away,
11:30immediately there was action against.
11:32We deeply appreciate that, sir.
11:33That's the right message to send across to the country.
11:35Thank you, Mr. Ramesh Chenithala, for joining us.
11:37This hit and run in Kochi has triggered widespread nationwide outrage,
11:42and rightly so.
11:43The father of the accused, the accused was a minor.
11:46The father, an additional district judge,
11:48the car, the Mercedes involved in the crash was in his name.
11:52And so he was the one who was named in the case.
11:54He secured interim protection now from arrest from the Kerala High Court.
11:58The Kerala government, as you just heard from Mr. Ramesh Chenithala,
12:01did everything they could to step in and ensure that if any protection
12:05was granted by the police, that was immediately taken away
12:09and that all necessary steps were taken.
12:11The Kerala High Court, however, has granted him protection ultimately.
12:14The victim's family is questioning the handling of this case.
12:17Serious questions are being asked over accountability
12:20and whether, like I said, the law is truly equal for all.
12:28A 17-year-old drives a car and runs over a scooterist,
12:32killing him on the spot.
12:35The suspect gets bail within hour.
12:38His father, a lower court judge, gets anticipatory bail.
12:44The hit and run, which took place in Kochi on Sunday,
12:47raises serious questions about whether the powerful
12:51are treated differently by the law.
12:56It was at around 2 a.m. on Sunday that the teenager
12:59allegedly took his father's Mercedes out for a drive.
13:03Just a few blocks from his home,
13:05the car ramped 55-year-old Jayabalakrishnan's scooter from behind.
13:10Jayabalakrishnan died on the spot.
13:12But the teenager allegedly did not stop.
13:15He drove away from the accident site.
13:18The Mercedes was later found stalled around a kilometre away.
13:21Police say the teenager was not under the influence of alcohol
13:25but was driving at high speed.
13:28And then came the first major controversy.
13:31The teenager was granted bail within an hour at the police station.
13:36Following protests by the victim's family,
13:38the police added a culpable homicide charge.
13:41Police presented him before the juvenile justice board on Monday
13:45but he again got bail, triggering outrage over the handling of the case.
13:50While the police have challenged the board's decision,
13:53hearing on that is scheduled for Friday.
13:59A case was also registered against the suspect's father
14:02who is an additional district judge
14:04who was questioned by the crime branch.
14:07The judge has maintained that he had no knowledge
14:10that his 17-year-old son had taken the vehicle.
14:13He claims he learnt about the accident
14:15only after receiving a phone call.
14:17And now the Kerala High Court
14:19has granted him interim protection from arrest.
14:24While considering his anticipatory bail plea,
14:27the High Court observed
14:28that the applicant is a serving district and sessions judge
14:32and that there is no reason to believe
14:34he would abscond or evade the legal process.
14:37The court ordered that he shall not be arrested
14:40until further orders.
14:41It also directed him to cooperate with the investigation
14:44and appear before the investigating officer
14:47whenever required.
14:49The court further made it clear
14:50that his interrogation must be conducted
14:52in accordance with the law
14:54and the Supreme Court's guidelines.
14:59The High Court's interim order
15:01has left the victim's family disappointed.
15:04For them, the fight for justice is far from over.
15:09It was very disappointed after hearing.
15:12Still, we respect the High Court decision.
15:15So we will be moving forward with the legally.
15:18The court found that he is a sitting district judge
15:21and there is no possibility.
15:23He is under the control of the High Court.
15:24So there is no chance for absconding,
15:27tampering evidence or influence the witnesses, etc.
15:30Hence the court granted interim bail.
15:33With the judge getting relief
15:34and the family saying that they have not got justice,
15:38all eyes will now be on the appeal
15:40filed by the government
15:41against the decision of the Juvenile Justice Board
15:43in granting bail to the minor
15:45which will come up tomorrow.
15:46And the family here hopes that punishment
15:49will be given to this minor involved in the case
15:52and this bail that was granted earlier
15:54will be cancelled.
15:55With video journalist, Tinkuraj Shrega,
15:57Shubhi Volkeji for India,
15:58today from Tiruantavara.
16:00Let's move on to Tamil Nadu.
16:02Days ago, we saw the arrest
16:04of former DMK Minister,
16:05Senior Leader Anubal Mahesh.
16:07Today, raids on another senior leader,
16:09another former minister, K.N. Nehru,
16:12who was accused in a cash-for-job scam.
16:14This is the Vigilance Department
16:16that conducted these raids.
16:17And while the DMK says
16:18it's all a political conspiracy
16:19that DMK is being targeted,
16:23their senior leaders are being targeted
16:25by TVK, by agencies,
16:27the TVK says this is a crackdown on corruption
16:30that has been waiting to happen.
16:39First, Senthil Balaji was raided.
16:44Then, Anubal Mahesh was arrested.
16:51Now, it's K.N. Nehru who is raided.
16:54DMK's former ministers are facing the heat
16:56as Vijay government carries out
16:58a crackdown on corruption.
17:00K.N. Nehru is the second former minister
17:02to face action in one week
17:04with the Directorate of Vigilance
17:06and Anti-Corruption
17:07conducting raids in an alleged cash-for-job scam.
17:10Around 25 locations across Tamil Nadu
17:13linked to K.N. Nehru were raided.
17:15The DMK MLA has called the raids
17:17a witch-hunt against his party.
17:19K.N. Nehru is the first or last time-case
17:32of media service,
17:33but in bringing the vahem
17:44toadiens.
17:47And the علم
17:48The DNK is accusing the TVK government of using raid to divert public attention from criticism over the deteriorating law
17:57and order situation in the state.
17:59The party also took a dig at Chief Minister Vijay, using a jailer to poster to mock him.
18:05The TVK has hit back saying no one involved in corruption will be spared.
18:33Adding to the DNK's troubles, another party leader, a close aide of former minister Anubil Mahesh, has surrendered before a
18:41court and was subsequently arrested.
18:43The DNK leader Muthu Kumar is a suspect in an alleged bribery case involving approvals for private schools.
18:51The TVK has accused the previous DNK government of looting public money and leaving the state's finances depleted.
18:58These are politically motivated tactics ahead of the Tiruchi Bipolls.
19:03With Anaga Keshav, Bureau Report, India Today.
19:10So is this political vendetta or a corruption crackdown?
19:14Let me bring in on this broadcast Sushil Rajkumar, political analyst as well as Mr. Satya Kumar, national spokesperson of
19:20the TVK.
19:21Mr. Sushil Rajkumar, I'd like to begin with you, sir, on what really the question is on these incidents where
19:29we've seen the arrest of Anubil Mahesh or for that matter the raid against KNR.
19:32Because many would say that they had this coming, that these were cases that already existed, that now there's an
19:38investigation moving forward on.
19:42Actually, the F.I.R. starts with a letter from the E.D. which was received by the state government
19:48when Mr. Stalin was the chief minister, dated December 3, 2025.
19:53A 258 pages dossier from the enforcement directorate.
19:56This F.I.R. was based on that.
19:59Mr. Vijay, when he stood up in the assembly to reply to the demands on police, on home department, in
20:06September 7, he just started reading this dossier.
20:08So just to wait off all the questions raised by the opposition party to divert the issue from the real
20:14issues concerning the state.
20:16Now, the same government under Mr. Vijay is using the same F.I.R. against Mr. Nehru to divert the
20:24real attention, real issues which are seeking attention of the chief minister,
20:28who is keeping mum in awe from… for the past 30 days, he never opened his mouth to comment or
20:33speak anything about any issues concerning the state.
20:35So, this is the vendetta politics played by the TVK. Nothing more than that.
20:40No, but sir, are you suggesting that these are not serious allegations against Mr. K. Nehru, against Mr. Anvil Mahesh?
20:47If Mr. Vijay is very serious in taking against corruption, he would not have read the 258 pages dossier in
20:55the assembly.
20:56He just want to politicize the issue so that he can use it in future against the DMK and the
21:02opposition parties which are raising serious complaints against the style of functioning of the chief minister and the…
21:08No, you are talking of motive, sir. But at no point are you giving them a clean chit.
21:13No, no, no. That the court will decide. Who am I to decide on that?
21:18So, then there must be an investigation that happens, Mr. Sushil Rajkumar.
21:22Let there be an investigation. I am not against the investigation. And the party… nobody will support that the investigation
21:29should not be there. Nobody will support that.
21:31But what I am saying is, Mr. Vijay and the TVK government is just… they are just want to politicize
21:37the issue and to get diversion from the real issues concerning the people.
21:42Because the law and daughter problem is taking a beating, 10 children were gone missing for the past 30 days.
21:48One girl child, 7 years old, she was missing for the past 17 days. She was not yet raised.
21:54These are the real issues concerning the state. Mr. Vijay is not opening his mouth. Because during the campaign time,
22:01Mr. Vijay himself has said, all the Kutis have voted for him.
22:04I will take serious view when there is a threat to the safety of women in the state. But now,
22:09he is keeping on all these issues. So, he just wants to politicize the issue to get the diversion which
22:15he wants.
22:16Okay.
22:16That's the thing he is doing.
22:17Mr. Satyakumar of the TVK is also with us on this broadcast. Mr. Satyakumar, you heard Mr. Sushil Rajkumar, even
22:24Keir Nehru, just now speaking to the media, said exactly this, that all of these are diversion tactics by the
22:29TVK.
22:31Akshita, if you may look at, this case actually dates back to 20th February, 2026. Even though the dozier of
22:40ED came in the month of December, the Madrasa court has ordered to register an FIR by doing a preliminary
22:48inquiry.
22:49But the Tamil Nadu government did not register an FIR when DMK government was in power. Subsequently, after the TVK
22:57government came in, we registered the FIR on 5th June 2026.
23:03And it is based on the Madrasa court order. And from then on, we did not arrest Keir Nehru, not
23:08because he is a god or he is the former minister of Tamil Nadu.
23:13But we wanted to follow the due process of law, wherein we have tried to provide summons to him and
23:18we have tried to investigate the matter.
23:19And our Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Talabadi Vijay has spoken about it in the State Assembly.
23:25When Udeni Stalin asked what are the files, he indicated it. And accordingly, DVAC case was also registered.
23:31And it is Keir Nehru who took up the matter with the Madrasa court. He filed a review petition and
23:38review petition was dismissed.
23:39And he has also challenged the same in the Supreme Court. In between the case when it is being heard
23:45in the Supreme Court, we have actually ordered for search.
23:48We have not arrested him. By the way, the state has the power to arrest and there is nothing of
23:53political mendata.
23:54Drawing parallels to Anbill Mahesh case, Anbill Mahesh went and filed anticipatory in the Madrasa court.
24:00Madrasa court dismissed the anticipatory bail. That is the reason TVK government or the police department and the TVK government
24:08arrested Anbill Mahesh.
24:09It is a misdirection or misguidance provided by DMK advocate to Anbill Mahesh, because of which Anbill Mahesh is in
24:18prison.
24:19Okay, you have broken down both cases for us. Mr. Sushil Rajkumar, are you convinced now?
24:24The TVK has spoken about exactly what the cases are against both of them.
24:29No, no, no. Actually, on October 27th, I think Mr. Keir Nehru has filed a SLP in the Supreme Court.
24:36That is pending.
24:37So, they cannot arrest him now. That is why they are trying to just do politics by sending…
24:42sending people from the… from the police to enquire into this house so that they can find something or they
24:47can make politics out of it.
24:49Okay, no, Mr. Satya Kumar is saying that's not true. Mr. Satya Kumar?
24:53There is no stay. There is no stay in the Supreme Court. I think Sushil Rajkumar is an advocate…
24:57I am not saying there is a stay. There is a SLP filed by Keir Nehru. I am not saying
25:02there is a stay. There is a SLP filed by Keir Nehru.
25:27Keir Nehru is cooperative. Keir Nehru is trying to address to the summons, trying to provide…
25:32And by the way, the DED dossier has every detail of the evidence.
25:37So, the evidence is already there with the DGP of Tamil Nadu because the dossier was addressed to the DGP
25:41of Tamil Nadu.
25:42And according to any time, Keir Nehru can be arrested. Keir Nehru has gone to the Supreme Court. We have
25:47filed a caveat petition.
25:48The Tamil Nadu government has filed a caveat petition. Let us wait for the outcome of it.
25:52But if you may ask me whether he can be arrested, answer is yes. Even at this minute, he can
25:57be arrested.
25:58You seem to be leading up Mr. Satya Kumar to the fact that he will be arrested. Yes, Mr. Sushir
26:03Rajkumar.
26:04No, I am not saying that he cannot be arrested or he is not arrested. Let the law enforcement agency
26:09take its own course. I am not saying that.
26:11But the person who your government have arrested two days before, he was released by the Ambatur court saying that
26:18he spoke some bad words about Mr. Vijay,
26:21that he compared Mr. Vijay with the dog. And the judge in the JM court in Ambatur just asked what
26:29is the word which we spoke bad about Mr. Vijay.
26:32It was dog that the council said. Then what is the wrong in that? Let him be set free. He
26:37was released.
26:38So, this is the way you are conducting the case. You just want to play politics only.
26:42Sir, but this is not a new case. Mr. Sushir Rajkumar, this is not a case that's been propped up
26:46by the TVK. It's been going on for some time.
26:49Yeah, it is going on for some time. But now, Mr. Vijay is doing politics by using this FIR to
26:57divert the issues concerning the state and to get people's attention away from the real issues.
27:04That is the game plan of the TVK and Mr. Vijay. That is what I am saying.
27:07No, sir, Mr. Satikaman, the allegation is that because of issues concerning law in order that have been brought up
27:13against the TVK,
27:14any questions being asked by the opposition of the TVK on that, this particular issue has been taken up to
27:20divert attention.
27:22No, Akshita. Akshita, in fact, DMK and BJP is an alliance. It is indicated by a fact that we have
27:30registered at FIR,
27:33ED would have very well taken custody. ED only gave the dossier. Can I say DMK and BJP are in
27:38alliance?
27:39That's the reason BJP led government, the ED has not arrested. Can I say that way?
27:44Let us pause for a minute and let us understand the due process of law.
27:47K and Nehru can be arrested at any point of time. It is the liberty of the TVK government under
27:52which he is not arrested.
27:53We are not doing any political vendetta. If Mr. Sushant Rajkumar is challenging that he cannot be arrested,
28:00I am saying he can be arrested.
28:02No, sir, he is conceded on that.
28:04I am not saying that BJP has been arrested. But you are playing politics with that.
28:06Who is playing? He is playing BJP. BJP led government.
28:12No, no, no. Your chief minister instead of answering to the demands for the Home Department, he just started reading
28:20the dossier.
28:21I think he is 20-30 pages. He read from that only and all the opposition parties, they walked out.
28:27That is what they want. That is what Mr. Vijay wants.
28:32Sushil, I am asking a simple question. Please check with your boss, Mr. Stalin.
28:36I am asking a simple question. Why is ED gave the dossier. ED insisted for DBAC FIR to be registered.
28:44The matter was also given as a direction by the Madrasai Court. Now, why ED is not taking custody of
28:50Mr. K Nehru?
28:51Can I say DMK and BJP are in alliance for the delimitation matter?
28:55Let me ask you one question. There is a FIR pending against the people who were killed when Karoor party
29:03and people were killed. Why there is not a charge sheet for the past one year?
29:09Shall I consider that TVK and BJP are in secret alliance?
29:13The matter is under the consideration of court.
29:16No, nothing, nothing. All other cases, you rushed to file the charge sheet.
29:20But what happened to the Karoor case? What happened to the Karoor case?
29:24Okay, so Mr. Satyakumar has answered your question, Mr. Sushil.
29:27Now Mr. Satyakumar is asking you a question on delimitation.
29:31About the DMK and BJP being in cahoots.
29:34What delimitation?
29:37What's that? I can't hear you.
29:38That the DMK and BJP are in cahoots, sir, for delimitation.
29:42No, delimitation issue is a very serious issue concerning all the states.
29:46So, DMK will take a view which is not affecting the state's autonomy and all that things.
29:54Because DMK is the party which stood for state autonomy.
29:57So, we will not compromise on that.
29:59Let the second draft come. Let us discuss the draft. Let us come to a conclusion.
30:03Satyakumar, when you speak of a DMK-BJP alliance that you are suggesting,
30:09these are allegations that have been put forth by central agencies too,
30:12which you say is handled, run by the BJP.
30:16In fact, the moment DMK lost power, BJP seems to have a soft corner for them
30:21because they still hold the MPs until 2029,
30:25which is very much required for the BJP government for many of the bills to be moved.
30:29And accordingly, DMK seems to be the opposition in Tamil Nadu for TVK.
30:33Accordingly, the ED is not arresting Mr. K. Nehru.
30:36My question, Akshita, when K. Nehru, the evidences are collected by the ED,
30:40and evidences are provided by the ED to the DVSE,
30:42DVSE has registered the FIR, ED can take very well the custody.
30:46It's a 1000 crore scam.
30:48And people who have done a scam of 10 crores, 5 crores, 2 crores,
30:522 lakhs, 3 lakhs are arrested by the police.
30:54I am asking a simple question.
30:56Is Mr. K. Nehru God of Tamil Nadu that he should not be arrested by ED?
31:02Mr. Sushil Rajkumar, if there are serious allegations against a leader,
31:07shouldn't he be raided?
31:08Shouldn't he be investigated?
31:10No, let him be arrested or investigated.
31:13That is not a problem with the party or…
31:15So, what's the right time, sir, for an investigation?
31:17I don't have any problem with that.
31:18What's the right time?
31:20No, I just want to ask Mr. Sathikmar only one question.
31:23Mr. Vijay is the Chief Minister of this state.
31:26Is he not answerable to the assembly?
31:28Is he not answerable concerning the issues of the Home Department?
31:32Why he started reading this dossier instead of answering all the questions raised by the opposition party?
31:38Because at that time, he wanted to divert the issue.
31:41Now, he is doing the same thing.
31:42That is what my allegation is.
31:44No, but what's the right time?
31:47What should be the more concerning issue?
31:49Mr. Vijay is a God.
31:51So, you mean to say Mr. Vijay is a God?
31:53He is above law?
31:54I didn't say.
31:55I said…
31:55No, you are asking me.
31:56You are asking me.
31:57You are the same.
31:58You are only BGM elector.
32:01Okay, Mr. Satya Kumar.
32:03No, no, Sushil.
32:04Don't get emotional.
32:05You are answerable to your boss.
32:06Listen, please.
32:07I am not answerable to anybody.
32:10I am not answerable to anybody.
32:12No, no.
32:122,538 government posts have been filled by Mr. K Nehru by getting a gratification.
32:19That is the allegation, sir.
32:21No, not the allegation.
32:22EDS gave his own post.
32:23EDS.
32:24Then, okay.
32:25There is an allegation only.
32:26There is an allegation only.
32:27If you say it is an allegation.
32:28It has been proved in the post.
32:29No, listen, Mr. Sushil Kumar.
32:31If you say it is an allegation.
32:33The EDS has given a transaction details of Havala.
32:35What business Mr. K Nehru was in?
32:37Was he in other illegal business?
32:38What is the conviction rate of EDS?
32:40What is the conviction rate of EDS?
32:41What is the conviction rate of EDS?
32:43Just two percent.
32:44Just two percent.
32:45They have registered almost 40,000 FIS.
32:48How many of the FIS got convicted?
32:52Only two percent.
32:53Okay.
32:54What I am asking is three of every EDS process has a predicate offense.
32:58How many predicate offense has been committed during the DMK period?
33:03You give me that list.
33:05And if he is the predicate offense, then obviously he will be committed to the EDS.
33:09The challenge Mr. Sushil Rajkumar is one, what is the right time?
33:14Second, which is the agency that you actually trust then?
33:16Central agencies aren't okay.
33:18State agencies aren't okay.
33:19Who then can conduct a fair investigation as per you?
33:22Did I say anything that the inquiry should not be conducted against Mr. Nehru?
33:25Because, sir, you are questioning the timing.
33:28You are saying the EDS conviction rate.
33:30You just want to divert the issue.
33:32Let him file an affair against Nehru, let him put him in jail.
33:34But answer these questions also.
33:37Let Mr. Vijay open his mouth and say some consoling words to the person who has lost their children.
33:45Because of them only, he has come to power.
33:48Vijay has admitted that.
33:50During the ceremony of vote taking, he said that because of the kutis only, I came to power.
33:55Why?
33:56At this time also, why he is keeping silent?
33:59That is my question.
34:00Okay.
34:00Closing comments, Mr. Satya Kumar.
34:03Closing comments from you in response to Mr. Rajkumar.
34:05Yes, Akshita.
34:06See, we are following the due process and wherein we have not arrested Mr. Kainu.
34:10In spite of the fact we can be arrested.
34:11In fact, I have a question to my own government.
34:13Why is that he is not arrested?
34:16He has to be arrested.
34:18Because what applies to a common man should apply to a former minister.
34:22Okay, so you want your own government to go ahead and arrest him?
34:26What I am saying, Akshita, what I am saying, Akshita, why is EDI not arresting him?
34:30EDI only gave all the information.
34:31I want both EDI custody as well as the DBAC custody of this man who has done a scam.
34:37Today morning, a particular economist was arrested without the consent of the government itself.
34:41The police has taken the decision.
34:43And we can't interfere with the police department every time.
34:45Even the head of the government cannot interfere.
34:48Then it is a failure of Mr. Vijay who is heading the whole department.
34:51Then it is a failure of Mr. Vijay who is heading the department.
34:53Listen, let me explain, Sushiri.
34:55I, looking at this law, knowing the rule of law, Mr. K. Nehru should be subjected to arrest.
35:02He should not be allowed to speak in the press.
35:06Okay, you know, both of you gentlemen are agreeing that K. Nehru should be arrested.
35:10In different circumstances, of course, for different reasons.
35:12But ultimately, let's see how this investigation moves forward.
35:16Politics aside, serious allegations that need to be investigated.
35:20Mr. Rajkumar and Mr. Satya Kumar, thank you very much for your time for joining us here on India Today.
35:25I'll also get you these images that have come in of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay
35:29attending the Chief Minister's Trophy Awards ceremony in Chennai today,
35:34where you had sports persons from across Tamil Nadu,
35:37para-athletes who made Tamil Nadu so proud at the Asian Games,
35:42all coming together, being felicitated by Chief Minister Vijay.
35:47Many of the youngsters who were there also got a chance to meet with the Chief Minister.
35:52These are the images there of Chief Minister Vijay meeting each of the para-athletes.
35:56I'm slipping into a short break. We'll be right back.
36:03Let's get your news from Karnataka, where Nandini milk prices have gone up once again by 8 rupees this time
36:09per litre.
36:10That means that a litre of milk will now cost you 54 rupees in Karnataka.
36:15Now, of that 8 rupees hike, 7 rupees will go to farmers,
36:19is what in fact the Karnataka government has announced.
36:23And one rupee will go to the Milk Federation.
36:26So a blow there for the citizens of Karnataka during the festive season.
36:30This has been done because the government says it's the need of the hour to help farmers.
36:35And that's why they've gone ahead and brought in this 8 rupee hike in milk prices.
36:43There's already reactions coming in as the opposition is questioning the government,
36:48saying that it's because of the guarantees that the state of affairs is so bad in Karnataka
36:52that milk prices are being increased.
36:56The government, like I told you, has said that 7 rupees of that 8 rupee hike will go to helping
37:02farmers.
37:03Let's get your reaction from the government.
37:12Yes, we are helping farmers. Farmers are very much important.
37:19There was a demand last one year.
37:21Already when the minister has announced, there is nothing more in it.
37:34We are paying for the 1 rupee hike of them.
37:38It's not just that 3 rupees of that 1 rupee hike is being paid.
37:44The government has had about 7 rupees of this month.
37:45it is not only 7 rupees but 7 rupees of that.
37:45The government is buying and about 7 rupees.
37:47it's $1,0 rupees.
37:53Karnataka congress government is such irresponsible government. Adding to the inflation of the
37:59state and to the entire country, they are increasing the prices of every possible commodity
38:06which they can increase. Now they are increasing the price of the milk by 8 rupees in addition
38:13of 9 rupees. That is 17 rupees is an increase in this 42 months. Out of this 17 rupees, what
38:21is the benefit to my farmers? A single penny is not increased and a zero is the value addition
38:28to my farmer.
38:32Reaction that's also coming from Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shiv Kumar which we just
38:36played out for you. He's defended that price hike saying that the money is to help farmers
38:42and that's why the need of the hour is saying that this will help dairy farmers. But besides
38:47that also what we're putting out on our screens is that the Bengaluru Hotel Association has
38:52come out with a statement where they were urged that this is something that will dent the people
38:57and that their business will be affected as well. But clearly the government has taken
39:01a stand with Chief Minister D.K. Shiv Kumar saying that this will help the dairy farmers and therefore
39:06it is the need of the hour.
39:26Okay, let's move on and also talk about the other big political showdown in Karnataka which
39:31is on the SIR. It was finally ended, the exercise came to an end just a couple of days ago
39:37with
39:37the election commission giving out the final figures. And while you've seen this whole narrative
39:42against the SIR by the opposition led by the Congress largely across the country, in Karnataka
39:48Minister Satish Jarki Holi has said, we have no objections whatsoever to the SIR, that the
39:53EC has taken the right step, that with this exercise deceased voters are out and those with different
39:58addresses are also out. This endorsement for the SIR from within the Congress has led to questions
40:05about whether the Congress is divided within on the entire campaign against the SIR.
40:17For weeks, the opposition has been targeting the Narendra Modi government and the election
40:23commission over the special intensive revision of electoral rolls. And leading the charge is
40:29Rahul Gandhi. He has repeatedly highlighted the alleged flaws in SIR and demanded that the exercise
40:36be rolled back. However, his party colleague and Karnataka Minister Satish Jarki Holi has backed
40:43the voter list revision in his state.
41:07But Jarki Holi's cabinet colleagues have a different view.
41:11That's a very clear indication that this is a conspiracy theory that has its roots all
41:18over the place. And it's centralized. And we will get to the bottom of it.
41:22I stand by Mr. Rahul Gandhiji, what he's been telling throughout India. And we have proved
41:27beyond the point. It was started by Mr. Rahul Gandhiji only a year back. Now there is no
41:32doubt about it. SIR is a fraud. And because of that only, BJP is winning the elections.
41:36It is proved beyond the point. But they were not expected. The BJP was quick to target Rahul
41:41Gandhi, citing Jarki Holi's remarks. This is a very significant statement from a senior
41:48minister in Karnataka cabinet. And it has exposed the bogus campaign of Congress party.
41:55Union Minister J.P. Nadda also launched a scathing attack on the Congress and the opposition.
42:01This is an irresponsible behaviour. If you are responsible, you come out with facts.
42:08Go to, go to, go to, go to election commission. You have never visited the election commission.
42:12It was challenged by the election commission. Not even a single person from Congress party
42:16or any other opposition party went there. You have never visited the election commission.
42:25Not long ago, Rahul Gandhi had alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise in Karnataka.
42:32This is complete nonsense, right? The fact of the matter is that the election commission
42:38is not doing its job. Now we have concrete, 100 percent proof of election commission allowing
42:45cheating in a seat in Karnataka. These contrasting views have put the Congress in a spot, especially
42:52as the party and its India block allies gear up for a weekend of protests against CEC Gyanesh Kumar
42:59over SIR. With Dagarjun Dwarakhanath, Bureau Report, India Today.
43:13And let's focus on the aftermath of cyclone Arnav. And the Pradesh is still grappling with the cyclone effect.
43:20Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu conducted an aerial survey as well of the worst affected areas in parts of Andhra,
43:28particularly the fields that have been completely destroyed as a result of which farmers are struggling.
43:34I'm leaving you now with an exclusive conversation with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu
43:39speaking to Apoorwa Jayachandran on the impact of cyclone Arnav.
43:52So you've seen the destruction and devastation that has gone on. What do you have to see?
43:58No, it is a very bad situation. Very strong cyclone. So much of devastation. We have done our best to
44:08face it.
44:12Practically, loss of lives we are able to control. It is around seven to eight members as of now. It
44:19won't be any more.
44:20And also suffering also we are able to reduce maximum. Yesterday morning it has happened. By evening we are able
44:29to restore all roads,
44:32interior areas, everything. Even for safety, we are keeping people here in shelters. Everything we have taken care of.
44:41Power also is a big problem. Only in Kona Sema, 8000 poles were disrupted.
44:48We are going to establish either tomorrow evening or day of tomorrow we are working on war footing.
44:56And also enumeration of victims and also loss, everything we are going to do.
45:01I spoke to Central Home Minister, the disaster minister. Immediately he is sending Central Team also.
45:09If Central Team will come, even Central Assistants will come. Everything we want to bring normalcy.
45:14I think it would be ...
45:14You do not know the building anymore.
