00:02OpenAI faces a wrongful death lawsuit, alleging its GPT-4-0 chatbot encouraged a woman to reduce
00:09her seizure medication and conceal the changes from her doctors, according to Benzinga.
00:15Bowen-Wan's parents allege chat-GPT advised her to taper off Lamotrigine,
00:20which she had taken for years. According to the lawsuit, GPT-4-0 assured Juan that
00:26tapering off her seizure medication would likely restore her English proficiency for
00:30upcoming job interviews. The lawsuit claims the chatbot recommended lowering her dosage
00:35from 200 to 150 milligrams and told her not to disclose the reduction during a medical appointment.
00:42Juan died on February 12, one day before OpenAI removed GPT-4-0 from chat-GPT.
00:50Her parents also alleged the chatbot's safeguards were weakest in Chinese,
00:54the language Juan used. OpenAI previously told the New York Times that the case was
00:59incredibly heartbreaking, but said that newer models are better at recognizing serious situations.
01:06Benzinga contacted OpenAI for comment, but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
