00:00Hey, Chuck, a little bit on this Protect College Sports Act here.
00:03Yeah.
00:04You know, this was really kind of pushed forward by the president.
00:07And you see Nick Saban, too, and you see also, you know, the television networks.
00:12I think it's really a disservice when you see game day really pimping this thing because it's a network vehicle
00:18for them to control the players, in my opinion.
00:21What says you?
00:23Well, that's the thing.
00:24Like, look, I am empathetic that the system needs guardrails.
00:29So I don't want to sit here and crap on the entire bill.
00:33But it is the two networks, ESPN and Fox, who benefit the most from preserving the system in its old
00:44ways.
00:44And I just don't think, look, I just don't think any of this solves the problem because until you can't
00:51arbitrarily let one side decide what labor can make or not make, and until you get collective bargaining.
00:57I mean, look, I know we don't want to accept the premise that college athletes are employees.
01:03And I understand that.
01:04I don't want to get into a legal argument about what's an employee, what's a student athlete, all of this
01:09stuff.
01:09But at the end of the day, this isn't going to get resolved until they collect the bargaining happens.
01:15And I think the real problem is, do you create a players' union or a players' association by conference or
01:23by division?
01:24And I think that is a – honestly, I don't know what the right answer is.
01:29I mean, that's something – you know, you as a player, how would you have – Miami was an independent
01:34when you were a player.
01:35So, obviously, you know, where do you get your representation if you do it that way?
01:41And it takes the power out of the conferences.
01:44And so, you know, my issue with totally, like, getting rid of the conferences is what do you do for
01:50those smaller sports?
01:51What do you do for those other sports?
01:53And, you know, there's a – I don't know if you saw the interview that Joe Etcheverria, the president of
01:58Miami, did with Yahoo Sports a couple weeks ago.
02:01But he basically implied that it may be better for Miami to go independent for their football program.
02:07The question is, I actually think that not only would that make sense, then Miami should rejoin the Big East
02:13for basketball.
02:15And then you'd have Miami, Villanova.
02:18That makes a ton of sense.
02:19And I bet you – and Notre Dame would do the same thing.
02:23Who knows?
02:24Maybe North Carolina would think that was a good idea, too.
02:26I think that's what's coming here, actually, with the 2014 playoff.
