00:00But I got to start you with our Canes.
00:02Is this the year Miami Hurricanes win the national title?
00:06So I think it is, but I hate saying it out loud.
00:11You know, it has me nervous, but I'm sorry.
00:14I look at everybody else in the country and I don't think anybody,
00:18our defense is not quite as good as it was last year,
00:22but the offense is better than it was last year.
00:25And I don't see another team out there.
00:27I mean, the only team that scares me is LSU.
00:31Like I have this premonition that it's Miami LSU in the national title game.
00:34I don't know how LSU gets there, but I think those are the,
00:38I think that would be,
00:40I sort of look at LSU as having the better offense in Georgia, for instance.
00:46I think it's Georgia, LSU, Miami.
00:48Look, I have weird confidence about the Notre Dame game.
00:51I'm more nervous about this UNC game on Halloween night
00:55and just sort of being a little bit, you know, little bit look ahead, right?
01:01As a player, Dan, how much, you know, you know, the big games coming up.
01:08What are you thinking about going into this Saturday's game as a player?
01:11I will tell you what Jimmy Johnson used to do with games like that.
01:15When we had these gap games, it was never really about the opponent.
01:19It was about the process, Chuck.
01:22So he would always tell us, look, we know that game's coming up.
01:26He would make it exciting for us.
01:29Guys, this is just one more step to get to your goal.
01:33So he taught us to be and do things in steps.
01:37If you want to walk yourself to the national championship, it takes steps.
01:42How many steps do you think it's going to take for you?
01:45And so every week was always a challenge.
01:47We really never even knew what our records was.
01:49I think this has got a lot to do with coaching and Mario and their preparation.
01:53I always say it's a coaching issue, yeah.
01:55This right now, a game like that, because I said the same thing to Chris, my producer.
01:59I go, I'm not really worried about the Notre Dame game that much.
02:02I'm worried about the gap game here with UNC because Belichick can do things.
02:07And by the way, they're 4-3.
02:09They're better than they were a year ago.
02:10These are one of those games you can stumble your foot here a little bit
02:15and we'd be worrying about the next thing.
02:18And I think last year's championship run, Chuck,
02:20I think is really going to help them also in this game.
02:24Yeah, this is where, you know, it's funny.
02:27You know, is Miami the number one team in the country?
02:29I think it's fair if people want to say they haven't earned it yet.
02:32Now, I think priors matter.
02:34I think Miami's playoff run should reassure folks
02:38that we probably are physically as tough, if not tougher, than some of these other teams.
02:45But it does, you know, it's funny to watch the SEC bias work its will.
02:49I'm not a Big 12 fan, positive or negative.
02:53But correct me if I'm wrong, the Big 12 seems as competitive as the SEC.
02:57The competition of the Big 12 means they only get one team in the playoff.
03:00The competition in the SEC means they get four?
03:04I didn't know that.
03:05And look at BYU right now.
03:07I mean, look at what they did to Notre Dame a couple weeks ago here.
03:10So, I mean, no question about it here.
03:12Hey, Chuck, NIL, has it been good, in your opinion, for college football?
03:20So, big picture, yes.
03:22Do I think the – you know, this gets that too.
03:25I was just at a conference that I helped put together that was a part of.
03:30I didn't put it together, but I was a host of it on the prediction markets, okay?
03:35And, you know, and people get really worried about the exploitation that takes place when
03:42a new system gets implemented.
03:43Is there insider trading problems with the prediction markets?
03:46There are.
03:47Is there problems of boosters going haywire right now in NIL?
03:51There is.
03:52But the bigger picture is what?
03:54More players are getting more opportunity to showcase who they are.
03:58And we have seen, boy, parodying college football is a lot of fun.
04:03You know what nobody loved when it was Alabama versus Clemson four out of five years, right?
04:10The diversification is something people like.
04:13This has worked, you know, really well.
04:14So, I think it's overall better.
04:16I get we're in the middle of this transition.
04:20We're – every year we're improving the system so that it isn't just totally nuts.
04:25So, now it's one transfer portal window instead of two.
04:29You know, maybe we'll have – I do think you're going to need collective bargaining before
04:33you can sort of have contracts that stick.
04:36We'll see how that works.
04:38But overall, I think the product's better.
04:42I think the competition is better.
04:46And I think it is opened more – look, I think there's a max of the number of major
04:52schools that can compete.
04:53It's probably in the 40 to 60 range.
04:56But the SEC was trying to put it into the 15 to 20 range.
05:01So, this is an improvement as far as I'm concerned.
