00:04Hey guys, it's Megan, Senior Beauty Editor at Refinery29.
00:08I'm here in the test lab today trying out the Ciaty Velvet Manicure Kit.
00:12This kit is supposed to give you the textured nail look,
00:16similar to what we saw backstage at Ruffian's Fall 2012 show.
00:19So inside the kit is a nail polish and a matching powder
00:22that you're supposed to just sprinkle on top.
00:24We're going to go ahead and give it a try.
00:25So the kit itself is $19 and it's sold at Sephora right now
00:28and it comes in three different shades.
00:30This really cool purpley plum, there's a navy and a gray.
00:34Inside the kit you'll find literally everything you need
00:38including tools and the color and instructions.
00:41So as you can see we've got our instructions.
00:45We've got this two-piece plastic holder which actually functions as your tray
00:51so you don't make a huge mess.
00:53You'll make a little bit of a mess but it won't be as bad
00:55because it will all be caught in here.
00:56And then inside is your polish, your brush and your powder.
01:01So you're going to start off by painting your nail with the included polish.
01:05Again, you can use any polish you want but the kit comes with corresponding polish and powder
01:10so it makes it more convenient if you just go ahead and use this one.
01:25You're going to wait for that first coat to dry.
01:28And you have to work quickly with this because you have to apply the powder while the nail is still
01:34wet
01:34in order to get it to adhere.
01:35The wet polish is what's actually keeping the powder in place.
01:40I'm going to just sprinkle the powder on top of my nail.
01:45You want a generous amount on there because you're then going to have to go in with the brush that's
01:50included
01:52and brush the powder off.
01:55Take out your hand.
01:59And you can go in and add more if you feel like you need it.
02:13The brush makes this really easy because it spreads things out.
02:18You want to be careful not to push down too hard or you will smudge the manicure.
02:23And then you wait for this to dry.
02:25You can't put a top coat on it because you will lose that textured effect that you've got here.
02:28So you have to wait for this to go.
02:30While I'm touching this, some of the powder is still coming off.
02:33So you really have to wait for it to dry.
02:35And I would continue to tap out your hand.
02:37And as you can see, it does go all over the place.
02:40But I'm being very cautious because I don't want to smudge it.
02:43So I'm not pressing down too hard with that brush.
02:49So I just finished my velvet manicure and I've got to tell you guys,
02:52I really like it.
02:53It looks so cool and it feels amazing.
02:56I haven't been able to stop touching my nails since I did it.
02:59I really like it because it was simple and it was quick to do.
03:03It didn't take a lot of time, maybe two to three minutes per nail.
03:05And once it was dry, it's not coming off.
03:08And I appreciate that because I was worried it was going to get all over the place.
03:13Overall, I'd have to say this is a pass.
03:15But you can get the same effect if you're very crafty
03:18and you just want to go to the craft store and pick up some flocking powder.
03:20You can do a velvet manicure at home.
03:23But for those of us who would prefer the convenience of having it all in one kit,
03:27everything matched and ready to go, I think that this is a good buy.
03:31Anyway, until today, I'll see you next time.
03:32Bye.
03:33Bye.
03:34Any chance to do back.
03:36Leave your Já se right there?
03:41Bye.
03:42Bye.
03:43Bye.
03:44Bye.
03:44Bye.
