00:12I'm Kim Gordon and I'm a musician and a visual artist. I think of myself mostly as a visual
00:22artist, although I know that sounds odd because I'm mostly known as a musician. I definitely have
00:27a restless quality, but I really, since I was five, I only wanted to be a visual artist.
00:33My father was a professor, so it was kind of an academic family, and show business was
00:40sort of looked down upon. But they were very supportive of anything that was artistic or
00:45creative. As a teenager, I was basically whatever I thought I was supposed to be doing, I didn't
00:52want to do it exactly. I guess I was really idealistic. And then when the band happened,
00:59Sonic Youth, you know, we gradually were able to eke out a living, touring. But, you know,
01:06we didn't really actually, we didn't have long-term goals. So we were super lucky. You know, it's
01:14good to learn to say no to things. It's definitely a protective quality. I don't think artists
01:20actually ever feel like they're good enough or they've done enough. I mean, people rarely
01:26go from A to B to C. There's a reason why I did the things I did, even though I
01:32wasn't
01:32aware of it. Things are all sort of coming together now. I don't know really what advice
01:38is give my, you know, don't date older men. Or younger men.
