We all have those old skirts that don't fit into our lives anymore, whether it's too short, too tight, or too frumpy. It's sad to say good-bye, but if only we could salvage that awesome material...

00:10Hi guys, I'm Chloe with Refinery29 and today we'll be making a Prada inspired clutch.
00:15I'm going to be using old velvet from the thrift store that I found and so it's really great.
00:20You can turn an old t-shirt or anything into a statement clutch for the evening.
00:23So here's what you'll need.
00:24Some velvet, felt which I got at the fabric store, some fasten buttons, gems, a needle and thread, scissors, measuring
00:36tape, fabric glue and your glue gun.
00:40So for the first step we're going to cut out the lining which is the felt and take your tape
00:44measure and we're going to measure the felt 16 inches long.
00:49I'm going to make a little snip where I want it to be.
00:54Then we're going to measure 28 inches across.
00:58Then I'm going to cut this line all the way up and then turn it on its side.
01:04Use that as my guide.
01:06The felt will give the clutch some substance since most velvet is pretty flimsy and light.
01:13Next I'm going to take the velvet and cut an identical piece that I did with the felt.
01:17So I'm just going to match it up and turn it over on its backside.
01:21And again I got this skirt for $4 so even if you don't have a velvet piece at home you
01:27can still find something that will work.
01:37You'll want to lay your velvet face down and then put your felt on top.
01:41And what we're going to do is take the glue gun and start gluing them together on three sides leaving
01:46the top part open.
01:52Now you'll want to take your glue gun and do a strip along each side and fold over about an
01:59inch.
02:08Next we're going to go ahead and flip it up about half way.
02:16And then you'll want to pull it down just to make sure that it falls about an inch above the
02:22end of the fabric.
02:24Now we're going to take the glue gun and just do the sides this much.
02:32Press down, make sure that's snug.
02:36Now you'll take your little gold clasp.
02:38I'm going to measure it about, looks like the center is about six and a half inches.
02:43So I'm just going to put it right there and then take my needle and thread and sew it onto
02:48the felt.
02:52And now the last step, you're going to go ahead and take your gems and just put them on the
02:56front with fabric glue.
02:59Make sure you press down hard.
03:13And here we have it. We've turned an old skirt into a really cool clutch and you can obviously do
03:19lots of different colors and embellishments to make it really fun.
03:22It's nice and roomy, which I love. So definitely be taking this out at night. Thanks and see you next
03:27time.
