00:02Do you think if you were not a multi-billionaire, if your family has not made hundreds of millions
00:08of dollars of contributions to the Republican Party, that you would be sitting here today?
00:12Senator, as a matter of fact, I do think that there would be that possibility.
00:15You are going to be the head of the agency to protect the environment,
00:21and your personal feelings about whether climate change is caused by human activity
00:25and carbon emissions is immaterial?
00:27Senator, I've acknowledged to you that the human activity impacts...
00:30Impacts?
00:31Yes.
00:31The scientific community doesn't tell us it impacts.
00:34They say it is the cause of climate change.
00:36We have to transform our energy system.
00:38Should people, because they are Americans, be able to go to the doctor when they need to,
00:43be able to go into a hospital because they are Americans?
00:46Yes, we're a compassionate society.
00:49No, we are not a compassionate society.
00:50In terms of our relationship to poor and working people,
00:54our record is worse than virtually any other country on earth.
00:56We have the highest rate of childhood poverty of any other major country on earth.
01:00And half of our senior older workers have nothing set aside for retirement.
01:05So I don't think, compared to other countries, we are particularly compassionate.
01:08But my question is, in Canada, in other countries, all people have the right to get health care.
01:14Do you believe we should move in that direction?
01:16I believe and I look forward to working with you to make sure that every single American
01:20has access to the highest quality care and coverage that is possible.
01:24As access to does not mean that they are guaranteed health care.
01:28I have access to buying a $10 million home.
01:30I don't have the money to do that.
