00:00:02If you're on this YouTube channel and you've not liked, subscribed, commented, or shared,
00:00:06what are you doing?
00:00:07It's Halloween week.
00:00:08Trick or treat, boys, right?
00:00:09Trick or treat?
00:00:10At least like her hat, for God's sake.
00:00:11You guys picked it out.
00:00:12I mean, this was a family affair here with this hat.
00:00:15Like, subscribe, subscribe, comment, follow, share.
00:00:20Be nice.
00:00:21Trick or treat.
00:00:22Enjoy the show.
00:00:23All right, we got the next generation Silverado for a next generation NFL show.
00:00:28The Gruden Family Football Show.
00:00:30I love it.
00:00:31Listen, Jay, I've hosted a lot of shows in my day.
00:00:33I know what I'm doing.
00:00:35Just follow my lead.
00:00:36Hey, I know football too, man.
00:00:37That's why you begged me to be on the show.
00:00:39Right?
00:00:39I didn't beg.
00:00:40Yes, you did.
00:00:41I didn't.
00:00:42Did to.
00:00:42I never said that.
00:00:43Guys, guys, you're the Gruden Brothers.
00:00:45Of course you both know football.
00:00:47Can we please start the show?
00:00:49Let's do it.
00:00:50Hey, Google.
00:00:51Let's go to work.
00:00:53Sure, navigating to work.
00:01:12Welcome to the Gruden Family Football Show presented by the Chevy Silverado.
00:01:16Week 8 of the NFL.
00:01:17It's Halloween, guys.
00:01:19I've been trying to make Jay wear his hat, by the way.
00:01:20We decided I'm wearing the hat the whole show, so he should have to.
00:01:23I love that hat.
00:01:24We picked it up.
00:01:24I'm taking mine off.
00:01:25I don't like it.
00:01:25You're the youngest brother.
00:01:27You have to wear it.
00:01:27Are you the Wicked Witch, or what kind of witch are you?
00:01:29I don't know.
00:01:29What kind of witch am I?
00:01:30Wicked.
00:01:31I don't know.
00:01:31Well, you're just mean to me.
00:01:33I think I'm a good witch.
00:01:34No?
00:01:34Am I a good witch?
00:01:35It's a great hat.
00:01:36I was going to take it on and off, and then I was like, you know what?
00:01:38It's Halloween week.
00:01:39We're going to wear it.
00:01:39How are you guys doing?
00:01:40How are you feeling?
00:01:41Great.
00:01:41Yeah?
00:01:42Fire it up.
00:01:42Excited.
00:01:43It's football season right now.
00:01:45It is.
00:01:46A lot of hay is in the barn, and now the cream will start to rise.
00:01:49Yeah, the last week of October, things are going to start to shake out, and because it's
00:01:52Halloween week, and of course, we have our Reese's, so Jay, I know you're going to get
00:01:54hungry throughout the show.
00:01:55You always do.
00:01:56Make sure you eat your Reese's.
00:01:57We're going to do a little trick-or-treat segment, okay?
00:01:59So we've got some teams in here.
00:02:01We've got like seven teams.
00:02:02I am going to let you guys pick, and whoever you pull out, you're going to tell me, is
00:02:05it a trick or is it a treat?
00:02:06A real team, a not real team?
00:02:08You tell me.
00:02:09Give me this.
00:02:10Ooh.
00:02:12The Rams.
00:02:13This is a treat.
00:02:14They're going to get healthy, and they prove what they can do when they're not healthy.
00:02:18This is a team that has a great coach, a great quarterback, and a really good nucleus of
00:02:23players.
00:02:23I still love the Rams.
00:02:25I like the Rams, too.
00:02:26I know you do.
00:02:27It's a treat, man.
00:02:28I got the Chiefs.
00:02:30Let's go, Chiefs.
00:02:31They're still a treat, man.
00:02:33They looked bad last week.
00:02:34They did look bad, but they do have Kenneth Walker, Jr.
00:02:36He's running the ball well.
00:02:37He'll get it going.
00:02:38They just need to add maybe a little juice in a trade, a wide receiver.
00:02:42They need to get a receiver.
00:02:43They're going to be fine.
00:02:44Spag's a great defensive coordinator.
00:02:45They're going to be in it at the end.
00:02:47I do have a question, though, about the Chiefs.
00:02:48We talked a little bit about this last week because their schedule was favorable for them.
00:02:51Now, you can only play who's on your schedule, but then they run up against a really good
00:02:54team, and they could not score any points.
00:02:55Does it make them a little bit of a trick?
00:02:57Seattle's a really good team.
00:02:58A lot of teams have trouble going to Seattle and playing them.
00:03:01They just have a treat, man.
00:03:03They're a treat.
00:03:03That's what I said.
00:03:04I said it, man.
00:03:05I just have to ask the questions, okay?
00:03:06I have to ask the questions.
00:03:07It's what I do.
00:03:08Look here.
00:03:08Look at this.
00:03:10The Bucs.
00:03:11They are a treat.
00:03:12They got one of the top five defenses in the league, a great kicker, and Baker's back.
00:03:17And we just ran for 260 yards and absolutely annihilated the Panthers.
00:03:23They're two and five.
00:03:23We might win out.
00:03:25We are a treat.
00:03:25You'll see.
00:03:28The Giants.
00:03:29Ooh.
00:03:30Top of the NFC East.
00:03:31What are they?
00:03:31They're a trick.
00:03:33They're a trick.
00:03:33I just got to see more of J.J. McCarthy.
00:03:35He played great last week.
00:03:36Two games in a row he's played awesome.
00:03:38But I still think, from top to bottom, offense, defense, special teams are still a trick to me.
00:03:42I got to see more.
00:03:43I got to see more.
00:03:44Well, that whole division is kind of a trick, right?
00:03:46Do you think they're a treat?
00:03:47I was really excited with what they did in Houston.
00:03:50Yeah, I was too.
00:03:51They kicked their ass, man.
00:03:52I mean, they really did.
00:03:53I was too.
00:03:53Big plays in a passing game.
00:03:55Camp Scadaboo on Halloween.
00:03:57There you go.
00:03:58How would you like to be that?
00:03:59I'm going to be Camp Scadaboo for Halloween.
00:04:00Yeah?
00:04:01Let me see this.
00:04:01Not Chucky?
00:04:03The Broncos.
00:04:04They're a treat.
00:04:05They're a treat on defense.
00:04:06They're not playing together on offense, but good God, you don't want to play Denver,
00:04:12especially in Denver.
00:04:13Bo Nix gets extra gummies for Halloween.
00:04:15They're all right.
00:04:1668-yard touchdown.
00:04:17He had a 50-yard touchdown pass.
00:04:19He had an extra gummy last week.
00:04:20The Vikings.
00:04:22They are a treat, boys and girls.
00:04:24Don't care what their offense.
00:04:25Ten touchdowns they've only scored, but they don't give up any points.
00:04:28They have a chance to be maybe the best defense out of this year in the history of the league.
00:04:32Yeah.
00:04:33That's how good they are.
00:04:34Treat.
00:04:34Treat in Minnesota.
00:04:35All right, last one.
00:04:36Last one.
00:04:36Last one.
00:04:37Last one.
00:04:37The Browns.
00:04:39Ooh.
00:04:40You know what?
00:04:40I'm going to get into the Browns in a second.
00:04:42You'll find out.
00:04:43But I am absolutely so excited about this franchise.
00:04:47Four rookie starters on offense.
00:04:49The job Todd Monken has done with his staff.
00:04:53This is a really good team on the rise.
00:04:55And the fact that it's the end of October and we're saying that about the Cleveland Browns,
00:04:59they have to be happy about that.
00:05:00That last-minute touchdown against the Titans, man, that was awesome.
00:05:02I mean, Deshaun Watson, at the end of games, he's getting it done, though.
00:05:06And I don't think Browns fans would have expected that.
00:05:08So, as we mentioned, it's the end of October.
00:05:10The trade deadline is coming up, Coach, November the 10th.
00:05:13And there are some players on the move.
00:05:14And we've got a slate for you to go through.
00:05:16Who do you think we might see traded before that deadline?
00:05:19Yeah, I think if you look at the names that are on that list, we saw the Colts move two
00:05:23big tickets.
00:05:24Quentin Nelson, they moved to Forrest Buckner.
00:05:26I think you might see one of the past rushers go, perhaps Khalil Mack, Josh Sweat.
00:05:31Those are the names I'm hearing.
00:05:32I think Brian Thomas, the receiver of the Jaguars, he is the big name to watch.
00:05:37A couple years ago, he had 1,200 yards receiving.
00:05:40He's not a big part of that offense ever since they got Jacoby Myers.
00:05:43I would see Brian Thomas as a primary target.
00:05:48And you see Ridley on there, Jay, Calvin Ridley.
00:05:51But he hasn't played much for the Titans.
00:05:53I don't understand what happened to Ridley.
00:05:55He's always been a great route runner, good hands.
00:05:57But he's never really produced to the level of expectation to me.
00:06:00You know, Brian Thomas would be interesting for me at Kansas City.
00:06:03They definitely need some juice out there.
00:06:05They didn't have any play of over 20 yards in the passing game or 10 yards in the running
00:06:08game last week.
00:06:09They need some big playability.
00:06:11And Brian Thomas proved he can do it at LSU and proved he can do it as a rookie.
00:06:14I know this is probably more of like an inside baseball type question as a fan, because you
00:06:18guys know you're in those offices.
00:06:20You know the trade deadline from a player's standpoint.
00:06:22Is this on any of their minds or no?
00:06:24Do they just say, OK, whatever happens, happens on November 10th?
00:06:26I think it is.
00:06:27You know, their agent is well aware of their contract situation.
00:06:30Most of the time, the guys get traded or in the last year of their deal.
00:06:34Indianapolis, I think, moved Buckner, moved Quentin Nelson, knowing they're going to be
00:06:38unrestricted free agents at the end of the year.
00:06:40There's a good chance they're not going to come back, and perhaps we need to get some
00:06:44assets back while we can.
00:06:46But usually the agents are in contact with their players, and they've got a pretty good
00:06:50idea of what's going on.
00:06:51We'll see what happens as we get closer to that date.
00:06:53But I will say, John, you made up a little bit of room on your brother last week.
00:06:57You made up a little.
00:06:58You're 54-52-1.
00:06:59You're 58-48-1.
00:07:01So let's get right into the primetime picks presented by DraftKings.

00:07:32The crown is yours.
00:07:34All right, let's start with the Browns at the Steelers.
00:07:36Now, we know this is a week four rematch.
00:07:38The Browns beat the Steelers on that last second field goal.
00:07:41And the Jim Carstat of the week, the house of horrors whenever Cleveland plays the Steelers.
00:07:46Now, the last time the Browns swept the Steelers, 1988.
00:07:49What were you boys doing in 1988?
00:07:51I was playing quarterback at the University of Louisville, leading them to an 8-3 season.
00:07:54The first winning season in a long time at Louisville.
00:07:57You remember that, John?
00:07:57Yes, I was.
00:07:58Were you proud of him?
00:07:59I was very proud of him.
00:08:00He was a tough dude.
00:08:01I don't know where I was in 1988, but if you look at that Pittsburgh Steelers stadium,
00:08:06when was the last time the Browns won in Pittsburgh?
00:08:08I think it's been 22 years.
00:08:10It's a long time.
00:08:11They haven't swept the Steelers since 1988.
00:08:13What was the top movie in 1988?
00:08:17Child's Play.
00:08:17Chucky.
00:08:18My man, Chucky.
00:08:20That was the guy.
00:08:21So, anyways, I understand the recent history.
00:08:24And I want to get into this matchup because I did a lot of work on my Browns.
00:08:28And I want to go back on Munkin as the coach of the year.
00:08:31He's got a first year of his system.
00:08:33And his system is very, very intricate.
00:08:36They got a lot of stuff.
00:08:37And when you look at it, he is molding this offense after what he did in Baltimore.
00:08:42Just take a look at the player usage.
00:08:45Start with Deshaun Watson.
00:08:47Last week, he runs a zone read out of an unbalanced formation touchdown.
00:08:51I mean, they're doing all the RPOs, quarterback counters with the built-in jet sweep.
00:08:55So, they're running the Lamar Jackson offense with Deshaun Watson.
00:08:59Then I look at KC Concepcion last week.
00:09:01Shit, he looks just like Zay Flowers.
00:09:04They both catch quick screens and they take it off to the house.
00:09:06And I'm really excited about Harold Fannin, man.
00:09:09Harold Fannin, they're using him almost like they used Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews in Baltimore.
00:09:15This left tackle, Spencer Fano, they hit the lottery on this guy.
00:09:20I mean, you see him on the screens.
00:09:21You see him get out on the tosses.
00:09:23Good God, Ronnie Stanley.
00:09:25He was the premier left tackle stillers of the Ravens.
00:09:28And then when you look at Judkins, I'm not saying he's Derrick Henry, but they're running the same runs.
00:09:33The exact same plays out of a two-back set with Burton at fullback.
00:09:37They used Ricard.
00:09:38Judkins took off last week.
00:09:40He's getting healthy.
00:09:41And then they got a wild card, Denzel Boston.
00:09:44Good God.
00:09:45He's averaging 20 yards a catch.
00:09:46This is the first year of his system.
00:09:49Rutenberg is a first-year coordinator.
00:09:51They're good.
00:09:53And when I look at them, man, I can't say enough about the Cleveland Browns.
00:09:57I just am really impressed with their offense, their defense.
00:10:01And when you look at the cardiac kids, Sam Ritigliano, back in the day.
00:10:05I'm just doing this for Cleveland right now.
00:10:07They won a lot of games.
00:10:09Look at the slate right here, who their key players were.
00:10:11Brian Sipe was the quarterback.
00:10:13You were too young, man.
00:10:14But I was a kid sitting out there.
00:10:16They had Brian Sipe and Ozzie Newsome.
00:10:19They had all these great players, Dave Logan, Mike Pruitt.
00:10:22And they're winning close games.
00:10:25And those first two wins, Tampa and Carolina, Deshaun got all the credit, but it was their defense.
00:10:32It was their defense with great stops.
00:10:35And when they beat Pittsburgh, it was their kicker, a 57-yard field goal.
00:10:39And then when they won these last two games, they hit Jerry Judy to beat the Ravens.
00:10:44And then they hit Harold Fannin to beat the Titans.
00:10:46So they're doing it with offense, defense, special teams.
00:10:50I'm taking the Browns, man, to go to Pittsburgh and exercise all these demons and prove we are for real.
00:10:59Sweeping for the first time in 38 years, which would be massive.
00:11:02And he's right.
00:11:03Deshaun Watson does get all the headlines.
00:11:04Anytime you read about the team, it's like he's led five fourth-quarter comebacks this season.
00:11:08But they're winning with a complete football team, which, again, if you ask the Cleveland Brown fans going into 2026,
00:11:13they'd say there's no way in hell that we would be here.
00:11:15After week one, when they got blitzed by the Jaguars, we're making fun of these guys.
00:11:19These guys are terrible.
00:11:20They're poorly coached.
00:11:21They're not in the right spot on defense.
00:11:22They gave up touchdown after touchdown to the Jags.
00:11:24This defense is playing very good.
00:11:26They're all over the place.
00:11:27They're pressuring the quarterback.
00:11:28They're covering the receivers up.
00:11:30Denzel Ward is still one of the top cornerbacks in the league for sure.
00:11:34And they pressured Aaron Rodgers, got him sacked five times last time,
00:11:36and pressured him another eight or nine times.
00:11:38So as long as they stop the perimeter stuff by the Steelers,
00:11:41they'll have a great chance to win.
00:11:42All the bubble screens, all the flat leads that we call them, he throws about nine a game.
00:11:46But still, I'm taking the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers to win at home.
00:11:51Renegade, you know how I love Renegade, the third quarter.
00:11:53You do.
00:11:53It's very intimidating.
00:11:54The Browns haven't won there.
00:11:56History will repeat itself.
00:11:58And the Steelers get the W.
00:11:59Well, and when Aaron Rodgers played them in the loss, he did have two interceptions.
00:12:03Now, he played fine outside of that, but you can expect Aaron Rodgers to maybe not make
00:12:06those mistakes going into this rematch.
00:12:08He's going to remember that game and how he got hit.
00:12:09He's not going to get hit like that again.
00:12:11He's going to get the ball out of his hands quick.
00:12:12Jalen Warren, a recall dowel has been a big hit for him as an alternate for Jalen Warren.
00:12:17So these guys can run the football.
00:12:19The quick game will help.
00:12:20And then the play actions outside the pocket for A-Rod, they'll do good.
00:12:23Good little spooky rivalry, too.
00:12:24These two teams hate each other.
00:12:25Good little Halloween weekend.
00:12:27All right, let's go to the Chiefs at the Broncos.
00:12:29Like we mentioned off the top of the show, the Chiefs get their first loss last week
00:12:32to the Seahawks.
00:12:33And, Jay, the most alarming thing about it was that Patrick Mahomes only had 165 yards,
00:12:37zero touchdowns, one interception, and this offense only scored three points.
00:12:41Now, we know how good Seattle's defense is, but is this alarming to see this Chiefs offense,
00:12:45who was firing on all cylinders, not use Kenneth Walker as much as they wanted to,
00:12:49him not have a good week?
00:12:51Are you alarmed by that?
00:12:52A little bit.
00:12:52They took the opening drive down the field, and they had a terrible legal shift on Travis Kelsey.
00:12:57It cost them points, but they missed two field goals.
00:12:59They had no big plays in the running game, no big plays in the passing game,
00:13:03no red zone opportunities, and no touchdowns.
00:13:05It was a tough day for them.
00:13:07They will bounce back.
00:13:08You know Andy Reid, right?
00:13:09Yeah.
00:13:09He's going to get on them.
00:13:10They're going to coach them up, and they're going to get ready for the Bronco team.
00:13:12They beat them 31-10 last time.
00:13:14Bo Nix is exciting.
00:13:15He had that 68-yard touchdown run.
00:13:17He had a nice screen pass to Harvey for a 50-yard touchdown.
00:13:19So they got some splash plays at Denver.
00:13:21If Denver gets splash plays, that defense will hunt.
00:13:24It'll be a tough day for Kansas City.
00:13:26But I think it'll be a back-and-forth game, and I'm going to take Kansas City to bounce
00:13:29back in a big way, Johnny.
00:13:31Yeah, I mean, John, like he mentioned, the Chiefs did beat them 31-10, but that was in
00:13:34week one.
00:13:35A lot of things have changed since then.
00:13:37Denver leads the NFL in sacks right now, 12 sacks.
00:13:39Patrick Mahomes getting put on his ass last week.
00:13:41That could easily happen again.
00:13:43Yeah.
00:13:44Kansas City's got issues at tackle.
00:13:46They've got the rookie undrafted free agent at left tackle.
00:13:49They've got a guy they picked up late from the Giants at right tackle.
00:13:52In the first game, it was all Kansas City.
00:13:55It was all Kenneth Walker, man.
00:13:57He made 28 guys miss.
00:13:58It was the first game the Broncos played.
00:14:01None of their players played much in the preseason, and you're on prime time against that Kenneth
00:14:05Walker.
00:14:05So they're working all week on keeping the edges set, and they're going to have much better
00:14:10tackling, you'll see, in Denver.
00:14:12Denver's going to win this game and cover.
00:14:14Denver, Kansas City's in a really tough spot.
00:14:16They're beat up.
00:14:17They don't have enough weapons.
00:14:19I think Sertan will be back.
00:14:20I think Hufanga will be back.
00:14:22And when this defense gets full strength and playing at home, and Bo Nix figures things
00:14:27out, I'm taking Denver all the way here.
00:14:29Well, we've talked a lot about Bo Nix.
00:14:31It's become one of those things we talk about every week.
00:14:33You know, he needs to settle down a little bit, take the gummies, whatever.
00:14:35He had those explosive plays.
00:14:37I know you've been very hard on him.
00:14:38Are you a little bit more confident in his abilities?
00:14:41He's a young player.
00:14:42Everybody wants him to be a seasoned veteran in a very short period of time.
00:14:46He's going to get better and better.
00:14:47He's got good arm talent.
00:14:48He's got great athletic ability.
00:14:50He's got to stick with the system.
00:14:51The more he sees patterns and less things fly, he'll get better.
00:14:54If he can anticipate throws, which he will as he gets older and better, he's going to
00:14:59be a damn good quarterback.
00:15:01I think when they look at that film, though, the Seattle-Kansas City tape, Mansoor Delane,
00:15:05the rookie corner for Kansas City, he is a hell of a prospect.
00:15:08But Jackson Smith and Jibba got him twice down the field on 50-50 balls.
00:15:13I'm sure Sean Payton is saying, hey, let's go after him again, because we got to find
00:15:17out about Delane's mental toughness right now.
00:15:20I can't wait to see Waddle, Cortland Sutton challenge these chief corners again to see if
00:15:26they've tightened things up.
00:15:27Well, and quickly, I know we mentioned Kenneth Walker, but he was shut down last week, only
00:15:3036 yards.
00:15:31Do you think that that's something that's alarming for this team, or is it just a bad week against
00:15:35his former team?
00:15:36Well, if they become one-dimensional and have to throw it with two young tackles and
00:15:40a limited core of receivers, good luck.
00:15:42You know, that's what you're talking about.
00:15:44No explosive plays, nothing.
00:15:46And that's un-Andy Reed-like.
00:15:48Hell, when I coached against the Chiefs, they had Sammy Watkins, some guy named, was it
00:15:52Tyreek Hill?
00:15:53And Kelsey in his prime?
00:15:54Good God.
00:15:55They don't have those guys right now, so it's a test for them.
00:15:58I don't think Spaggs is going to play defense where every defender has their back turned to
00:16:02Bo Nix, and he just runs for a 68-yard touchdown.
00:16:04I think Spaggs might be a little more prepared.
00:16:07Let's go to Monday Night Football, the Chicago Bears versus the Seahawks.
00:16:11John, when Caleb Williams is playing football for Chicago, they are absolutely electric.
00:16:15He's had over 300 yards in the last two games.
00:16:17They've scored a ton of points, 61 points in the last two games, and he's completing
00:16:2175% of his passes.
00:16:22When you see Caleb Williams right now playing the best football of his career, going against
00:16:27this Seahawks defense, what do you expect to happen?
00:16:29I'm impressed with how they use his legs.
00:16:31I mean, he does a lot, moving the pocket, creating different launching spots.
00:16:35He can scramble and create, as you say.
00:16:38But when I watch the dark side, the Seahawks defense, what they did to Sean Payton, who
00:16:43I think is one of the top coaches in my lifetime, I mean, 2.9 yards of play against Denver.
00:16:50That's the worst Sean Payton's outfit has ever done in his career.
00:16:53And then Andy Reid, you just said it.
00:16:55I mean, they just completely shut down the Chiefs, and now they get a chance at home against
00:17:00the Bears and go after Ben Johnson.
00:17:02Remember, losing Cole Komet is a big loss for Chicago.
00:17:06I mean, people don't see him on the stat sheet, but let me tell you, he blocks the C-gap.
00:17:11He's a great Chicago Bear.
00:17:14I just think Seattle, getting Quentin Nelson is going to have a lot of excitement, and
00:17:21I think they're going to come out at home and kick some ass.
00:17:23I just think this defense is awesome.
00:17:25This Nick Emanwuri, they had him run down Mahomes the week before.
00:17:30He spied on Bo Nix.
00:17:32He ran him down like he was standing still.
00:17:34A lot of speed, a lot of effort, a lot of precision on this Seattle defense.
00:17:39It's going to be a long day, I think, for the Bears.
00:17:40Well, and like you mentioned, keeping Kansas City out of the red zone completely last week,
00:17:44I mean, that's a hard thing to do when you have Patrick Mahomes, but Caleb Williams right
00:17:47now, the way he's playing, and he's being cocky on social media, all the things, which
00:17:50is good.
00:17:50He's playing so well.
00:17:52Do you expect it to kind of meet in the middle, though, with the Seahawks defense?
00:17:55I don't know.
00:17:56They're playing really good.
00:17:57You know, what helped them a lot is Emmanuel Wilson had 100 yards, too, which helped run
00:18:00the clock a little bit.
00:18:01And then when they did get man-to-man, who did Sam Darnold look for?
00:18:05Smith and Jigba.
00:18:06So that'll be an interesting deal.
00:18:07How's Dennis Allen going to prepare for Smith and Jigba?
00:18:09Is he going to play two high safeties all the time, which will allow Emmanuel Wilson
00:18:13some good looks?
00:18:14That'll be interesting to see.
00:18:15And then how's Ben Johnson going to attack Mike McDonald's defense?
00:18:17I mean, you mentioned Nick is all over the place.
00:18:19He's playing Sam linebacker.
00:18:20He's playing Will linebacker.
00:18:21He's playing nickel.
00:18:22He's playing safety.
00:18:23He's a great player.
00:18:24But, you know, I just think Ben Johnson, they had an extra two to three days to rest.
00:18:28They played Thursday night.
00:18:29I think they're going to go in there and have a good plan to try to play some bully ball,
00:18:32which
00:18:32will be hard to do.
00:18:33Run the clock like they always do.
00:18:34Get Caleb Williams outside the pocket.
00:18:36Make some plays.
00:18:37Luther Burden, third and 19, a little screen pass touchdown.
00:18:40I mean, they have some explosive players on offense.
00:18:42Roman Doomsday is going to have to step up and make some plays.
00:18:44You know, the, excuse me, the Dennis Allen, no pass rushers.
00:18:49I mean, Sweat hasn't played.
00:18:51I said they don't have any pass rushers, but they've had two or more sacks in every game.
00:18:55It's only the third time in Bears history.
00:18:57Dennis Allen put together these blitzes on a weekly basis with muddy coverages.
00:19:02I don't know what it is.
00:19:03Kyler Gordon has four sacks in about 40 plays.
00:19:06I mean, that's more sacks than Josh Hines Allen, Max Crosby, and Nick Bosa put together.
00:19:12I mean, they do a great job coming up with pressures.
00:19:16And can Emmanuel Wilson, is Charbonnet going to come back?
00:19:19Is Jadarian Price going to come back?
00:19:21That's my only concern is can Seattle handle the blitzes that Dennis Allen has put together
00:19:26during this extended mini bye week?
00:19:29Well, last week they did allow zero sacks, which was huge because we know they had struggled
00:19:32with that.
00:19:33But there's just something about the Chicago team.
00:19:35I don't know if I'm stuck in like the barstool vacuum right now, so I'm hearing all the Chicago
00:19:38guys.
00:19:38But there's something about this team that feels a little bit different about the Bears.
00:19:42I am worried, though, because like you mentioned, Cole Clement's out.
00:19:44Sam Roche is going to have to play tight end.
00:19:46For them to play bully ball, they got to run the ball.
00:19:48And they did a lot of that with the two tight end sets.
00:19:50Loveland's not a great blocker.
00:19:51So they're going to have to find an answer.
00:19:52Maybe move a tackle and play tight end.
00:19:54Play big people.
00:19:56But I'm taking Seattle, by the way, just for the record.
00:19:58It's at Seattle.
00:19:59I do like the Bears.
00:20:00They're going to have a great plan.
00:20:01It'll be a great game.
00:20:01I can't wait to watch this game.
00:20:02Yeah, this one will be a fun one.
00:20:03Let's go to Gruden's Grease Board presented by the Chevy.
00:20:06The Gruden Family Football Show and the Gruden Grease Board is presented by the next generation
00:20:10Chevy Silverado, the most powerful and advanced Silverado ever, combining serious capability,
00:20:14advanced technology, a bold commanding design, the kind of confidence you want when the
00:20:18pressure is on.
00:20:19Visit Chevy.com to learn why the next generation Silverado is leading the league.
00:20:23All right, let's start with the Vikings at the Lions.
00:20:26You guys can go over.
00:20:26I know you're going to break some things down.
00:20:28The Vikings, 6-0, coach.
00:20:30And what this defense has been doing, they've been absolutely carrying them.
00:20:33The offense has only scored 16 points last week against Indy, 23 before the bye against
00:20:38Atlanta.
00:20:39This defense is carrying this team, and they're looking incredible.
00:20:41I've never heard of a guy blitzing 86% of the time in a game.
00:20:45And that's what they did.
00:20:46Brian Flores and the Vikings blitzed 86% of the time against Daniel Jones.
00:20:51And a lot of these blitzes are causing headaches.
00:20:53I just want to show you, we've talked about the Vikings front.
00:20:58We called them the $7 million men.
00:21:00But you see the statistics right here.
00:21:01I want to talk about their underneath defenders, their blitzers, the guys that are really blitzing.
00:21:07I want to talk about Cashman, Wilson, and Harrison Smith.
00:21:11I got a nickname for these guys.
00:21:13I want to show you this thing here.
00:21:15There they are.
00:21:15The backfield butchers, man.
00:21:18I mean, on Halloween, this guy Cashman, he doesn't blitz like a normal linebacker.
00:21:24He's not trying to go in there and take an edge or contain a quarterback.
00:21:28He's going in there to butcher your ass.
00:21:31And Eric Wilson, people don't know who these two linebackers are.
00:21:34These are the two hammers in the National Football League.
00:21:37And I call Harrison Smith a werewolf.
00:21:39You know, you don't know what he is.
00:21:41During the day, he's a human, and at night, oh, this guy, is he blitzing or is he running
00:21:45back to the post?
00:21:46But he can overpower a back.
00:21:49He can disguise coverage.
00:21:50And I just want to show you the blitzes that have gotten home in the last couple weeks
00:21:55from these backfield butchers.
00:21:57Let me show you the first one.
00:21:58I want to talk about Cashman.
00:22:00There he is, number 51.
00:22:02We call that a load front.
00:22:04Three down linemen on the right side of the center.
00:22:06So the center guard tackle go that way.
00:22:08You see the left guard, Quentin Nelson, he's got to block Andrew Van Ginkle.
00:22:13The left tackle's got to block the end.
00:22:15Guess who has to block?
00:22:16Blake Cashman.
00:22:17The back.
00:22:18Jonathan Taylor.
00:22:19But there's the butcher.
00:22:21He just destroys that block, and it's a sack.
00:22:24Go to the next one.
00:22:25Here's the next one.
00:22:26The next blitz, we have a name for it.
00:22:28You'll see Cashman again.
00:22:30We call this load jam.
00:22:32So now they put the three down linemen on the right side of the center again.
00:22:36There's the left tackle over there with the defensive end.
00:22:39There's Cashman.
00:22:40And they use a stunt.
00:22:42They bring those two defensive tackles to the inside.
00:22:46Cashman delays a little bit.
00:22:48He comes ripping around the horn into the B-gap, and the backer butcher smashes the quarterback
00:22:54again.
00:22:55Untouched, Jay.
00:22:57And then you look at Eric Wilson.
00:22:58Good God.
00:22:59I'm like, who is number 55?
00:23:01He is a savage coming off the edge.
00:23:04This is their infamous double A's.
00:23:06They've been doing it since the Mike Zimmer's days.
00:23:09They got two defensive tackles on the outside shoulder of the guard, two defensive ends.
00:23:13And there's Cashman, 51.
00:23:15And there's 55.
00:23:16Wilson.
00:23:17I'm convinced, Jay.
00:23:19Cashman, he hears the center go, loo, loo, loo.
00:23:22And now 55 lights up like a Christmas tree, and he blows up the running back again for
00:23:27a sack.
00:23:28It's that simple.
00:23:29And then look at the last one.
00:23:30It's a sawdog blitz.
00:23:32They're in a 4-3 alignment against the Colts last week.
00:23:35They got 55.
00:23:38Wilson is the will.
00:23:39The Sam is on the right.
00:23:41They bring both outside linebackers.
00:23:43And poor Jonathan Taylor is in the dot trying to pick up the backfield butcher.
00:23:48And it's over, man.
00:23:49These linebackers, I'm telling you, they will kick your butt.
00:23:54And they're not trying to take an edge.
00:23:56They're not trying to contain rush.
00:23:58They're not blitzing to cover.
00:24:00They are coming right down the stripe of your helmet.
00:24:03What do you think, Jay?
00:24:04I think that you're exactly right.
00:24:06I think the Colts had a great game plan.
00:24:10Shane, strike, psych, they scored the first drive, didn't they?
00:24:12You were texting me.
00:24:13How about that game plan?
00:24:14No more touchdowns.
00:24:15Anyway, there were plenty of Detroit Lions.
00:24:17Last year against the Detroit Lions.
00:24:19Detroit Lions were like a misfit toy unit on offense.
00:24:22They had a left tackle who's now an offensive line coach for the Lions right now.
00:24:26The left guard is playing as a young player without Penny Sewell next to him.
00:24:31They had another center who's at Arizona's practice squad.
00:24:33Tate Rutledge was a guard.
00:24:34He was a rookie at the time.
00:24:36In right tackle was Sewell, but now he's left tackle.
00:24:39They had three tight ends that aren't even in the league anymore.
00:24:41Right?
00:24:42Now we're going to replace these three tight ends with Sam Laporta and Brock Wright.
00:24:46I like that.
00:24:46These are two bad boys.
00:24:47We're going to move Penny Sewell to left tackle.
00:24:52He's played as good as any left tackle in football right now, which will make Christian Mahogany a lot better.
00:24:58Cade Mays is a free agent from Carolina.
00:25:00They paid him a lot of money.
00:25:01He's big, strong, physical.
00:25:03He's going to help out at center.
00:25:04And then Tate Rutledge.
00:25:05He's a big son of a gun, too.
00:25:06Rutledge.
00:25:06Rutledge.
00:25:07Rutledge.
00:25:07I'm sorry.
00:25:08And then we got Blake Miller, the rookie tackle.
00:25:10He was a first-round pick.
00:25:11So, they are much better, much bigger, much stronger, much faster than they were last year playing the Vikings.
00:25:17However, the guys without the ball, John, are going to be most important.
00:25:21Sam Laporta or Brock Wright, they're going to have to block Dallas Turner.
00:25:25Jameer Gibbs is going to have to block Wilson.
00:25:27He's going to have to block these Cashmen.
00:25:29So, how they do without the ball is going to be the success, how successful the Detroit Lions will be.
00:25:34And that's the key.
00:25:35Jared Goff got sacked five times.
00:25:37You know, it wasn't the left tackle's fault all the time.
00:25:39A lot of times it was Gibbs picking up the safety.
00:25:41He got beat.
00:25:42It might have been they blew up protection or what have you.
00:25:44It might have been they tried to do a long play-action pass and Dallas Turner beat the tight end.
00:25:48So, there's a lot of issues you have, not just the guys up front.
00:25:50The backs and tight ends have to be very active in this ball game.
00:25:54I think this.
00:25:55I think the personnel for the Lions is a lot better.
00:25:58What I like is they got a new offensive coordinator, Drew Petsing, and he's had a lot of time during
00:26:03the offseason to study the Vikings.
00:26:05I mean, let's not kid ourselves.
00:26:07I think they're going to limit the play-action passes.
00:26:10What the hell are you running play-action passes for if the back has to abort the fake and go
00:26:13pick somebody up?
00:26:14And the tight end hasn't blocked Dallas Turner.
00:26:15And I think you're going to see some vertical hots.
00:26:18You're a slot receiver, and there's nobody on you because everybody's blitzing.
00:26:22They got these cover-two-shell guys.
00:26:23I'd be surprised if golf doesn't make a signal and they throw some vertical hots.
00:26:28And I think there's going to be some run audibles against some of these blitz looks.
00:26:33I'd be shocked if they don't take their chances.
00:26:35They've got to eliminate the turnovers, Detroit does, and trust their defense, which I know is hard for you to
00:26:42do in Detroit.
00:26:43Minnesota hasn't scored yet.
00:26:44And then I think the big thing is, if I'm Dan Campbell, let's get in a no-huddle offense.
00:26:50Let's get up.
00:26:50Let's go turbo against these guys.
00:26:52Mix up the speeds.
00:26:53Go fast.
00:26:54Go slow.
00:26:54Pick it up.
00:26:55Slow it down.
00:26:56And be ready again for Dan Campbell on fourth down.
00:26:59We all know he could pull the trigger and go for it.
00:27:02But I'm taking the Lions to solve this problem.
00:27:05A lot better personnel this year.
00:27:08Big rivalry game.
00:27:10I'm taking Detroit.
00:27:11Yeah, and Jared Goff, I mean, has 14 touchdowns.
00:27:13But like you mentioned, their defense has been not so great.
00:27:16They're allowing the league's worst 391 yards per game.
00:27:19But against this Minnesota offense who hasn't had to do much, Kyler Murray doesn't have to do anything.
00:27:23He's going to have to do something against Detroit.
00:27:24They're going to have to score a few points.
00:27:26However, until somebody cracks this code by Brian Flores, I'm still sticking with the Vikings.
00:27:31Nobody's cracked it.
00:27:31He's gone against some good coaches and still stuffing it to everybody.
00:27:35I mean, I'm telling you what, nobody's figured it out yet.
00:27:37Maybe Jared Goff will, but I do know this.
00:27:39Brian Flores, who gets a non-mobile quarterback, will heat him up over and over again.
00:27:44This game's going to be awesome.
00:27:45This is.
00:27:46This ain't no average non-mobile quarterback, though.
00:27:49This is Jared freaking Goff.
00:27:50They got a 5-6 last time.
00:27:51JG, man.
00:27:52Christmas Eve, baby.
00:27:53All right.
00:27:53All right, let's go to the Chargers at the Rams.
00:27:55The Battle of L.A.
00:27:56Now, we know how bad the Chargers have been, guys.
00:27:58They're 0-6.
00:27:59It's an absolute disaster.
00:28:00But what the Rams have had to deal with this year, Coach, with all the injuries that they've had,
00:28:03Sean McVay has kind of had to reinvent this offense.
00:28:05Because every week, somebody else is getting hurt, and versus the Raiders, he ran 34 snaps and 13 personnel.
00:28:11What the hell is that all about?
00:28:12Yeah, I think it started last year when Puka got hurt, Devontae got hurt, Puka's hurt a little bit this
00:28:17year.
00:28:17Now Devontae's hurt again, so let's use all these tight ends.
00:28:20They've got five of them on their roster, so they use three at a time.
00:28:2313 personnel, one back, three tight ends, one receiver.
00:28:28The one receiver is Puka.
00:28:30So last week against the Raiders, you've got to see this.
00:28:32Inside the 5-7 yard line, where teams play a lot of man coverage, the Raiders came out in a
00:28:394-3 defense.
00:28:40They had a safety choking the tight end, playing man coverage.
00:28:44This is a running play.
00:28:45They've got a tight end here, they've got one there, and they've got a tight end here.
00:28:48Here's the tailback.
00:28:50They just front out and hand the ball off to the back.
00:28:53They've got great angles with the tight end, the tackle, and the guard.
00:28:57Everybody is reach blocking, drive blocking.
00:29:00These guys, it's awesome.
00:29:01The center, Coleman, Shelton, Avila, the left guard, they get a double on that one technique,
00:29:08and they don't hurry to come off, but they do come off late when needed.
00:29:12But they get movement there.
00:29:14They get a great point of attack block there.
00:29:16But what they do that is really tricky, they bring Puka Nakua across in motion,
00:29:21and here comes the corner covering him.
00:29:23And Nakua inserts and runs a route.
00:29:26He runs a corner.
00:29:28He doesn't block anybody.
00:29:28But he takes the corner out of there, and the tight end blocks out, and the strong safety
00:29:34covering him goes out there with the tight end.
00:29:37So they remove the safety with the tight end.
00:29:39They remove the corner with Puka.
00:29:41They hand the ball off to Blake Corum, and here comes another tight end circling back
00:29:45to block N'Kobe Dean.
00:29:47It's a walk-in.
00:29:49Kapow!
00:29:49And I'm like, holy cow, that's a great design.
00:29:52Then they get down there again against my old team, the Raiders.
00:29:55Hell, my pens are running out.
00:29:56I've got to get a new red pen.
00:29:58Then they get a tight end and a tight end.
00:30:01Two tight ends and a wing set on the left.
00:30:03Here's another tight end with Puka Nakua.
00:30:05It looks like they're running their duo play.
00:30:08Just a straight inside tight give to the tailback.
00:30:12Everybody's coming off getting movement.
00:30:14It looks exactly like they're duo play.
00:30:17Everybody's got to step up.
00:30:18But on the backside, they bring the tight end in short motion.
00:30:22Here comes the corner.
00:30:23Now he inserts.
00:30:24He runs the corner.
00:30:25The tight end blocks out again.
00:30:27The strong safety.
00:30:28He's like, holy cow, this is a run.
00:30:30He frees up, and then he releases right in the flat.
00:30:33He's wide open for a touchdown on the bootleg.
00:30:35The Rams, they got runs and passes that are mind-boggling, that look the same.
00:30:41They're well-blocked.
00:30:43They're well-practiced.
00:30:44They'll have something just for you because they're plays that you can't put on a card
00:30:49and prepare for.
00:30:50Nobody runs these kind of plays out of three tight ends, and they're causing a lot of confusion.
00:30:55Who invented the 13 personnel?
00:30:57Not any of us, but it's been around a long time.
00:31:00I credit Sean McVay and his staff for going with the personnel group, and it gives them
00:31:05a chance to win the game.
00:31:06They're three and four.
00:31:07Jay, going into the season, a lot of people, including you, were high on the Rams.
00:31:10And the fact that Sean McVay is having to kind of reinvent this offense, like John just
00:31:14said, then you look at the Chargers, and they are just absolutely awful.
00:31:18What do you do if you're the Chargers right now?
00:31:20Do you even have an answer for this?
00:31:22They had a bye week.
00:31:22They had a lot of time to look at themselves on tape and try to study what they're good
00:31:26at, which hasn't been a lot, what they need to fix, which is a lot, but hopefully
00:31:30they come up with a plan.
00:31:31They have good coaches on their staff.
00:31:32We know Harbaugh's a good coach.
00:31:33Mike McDaniels does some good things at Miami.
00:31:35Say what you want.
00:31:36So they got to get Herbert protected.
00:31:37He's been pressured 99 times, most in the league.
00:31:40They're only averaging 12 points a game.
00:31:42They got to do something offensively to help this poor guy out.
00:31:46And Herbert's got to protect the football.
00:31:47But yeah, there's a lot to fix.
00:31:49I don't know if they have time.
00:31:50I don't know if one week's enough time to fix it.
00:31:51The good thing is they're playing in SoFi Stadium, and nobody's won in SoFi.
00:31:56I mean, hell, Arizona won more games in SoFi than these two teams combined.
00:32:00I hate that visitor's locker room at SoFi.
00:32:02Is it bad?
00:32:03It's like a maze, you know, you're looking for your quarterback and, hey, I'm over here.
00:32:07You know, the next time you find your quarterback and start the third quarter, but Rams are going
00:32:11to win.
00:32:12I'm all in on the Rams.
00:32:13The Chargers, unless they have made some dramatic fixes, which I don't think they have done.
00:32:18I'm going with Stafford and McVeigh.
00:32:20Well, and Harbaugh did say it.
00:32:210-6 gives you the privilege.
00:32:23You have to rule nothing out.
00:32:24Everything is on the table right now.
00:32:26But like you just mentioned, you can't find your quarterback.
00:32:28Justin Herbert, he's just in absolute hell right now.
00:32:30And even though they know this 13 personnel is coming on defense, like the Chargers defense
00:32:34hasn't been playing well either.
00:32:35It's just a nightmare for them.
00:32:36You know, the Chargers defense, they're ready for a sunny day and rush the pasture.
00:32:40These guys are going to come out 13 personnel and bludgeon them.
00:32:42I mean, this is going to be a tough day.
00:32:43They better buckle their chin strap, put their mouthpiece in early and often because the Rams
00:32:47will not let up.
00:32:48They will do this time and time again and beat the hell out of you.
00:32:51Just saying if Miles Garrett makes his debut against these beat-up Charger linemen.
00:32:55Happy Halloween, baby.
00:32:57Happy Halloween to the Chargers.
00:32:58I like the Rams.
00:32:59Trick or treat.
00:33:00They're a treat.
00:33:02All right, let's go into straight-up football.
00:33:03We're going to try something new this week, guys, okay?
00:33:05Because, you know, we love to yap on this show.
00:33:07So we decided in our production meeting that you guys are going to be on this little timer,
00:33:10which kind of fits like the Halloween vibe, right?
00:33:12I've been told that it was a minute, but maybe 45 seconds.
00:33:15I don't know.
00:33:15I think we got sold a lemon here.
00:33:17We don't know exactly.
00:33:17It's somewhere between 45 seconds and a minute.
00:33:19So every game, I'm going to start this, but it is your show.
00:33:22So talk as long as you want, as little as you want.
00:33:24Let's go Ravens at Bills.
00:33:26Now, it is Wednesday.
00:33:27We record this on Wednesdays.
00:33:28Lamar Jackson is practicing.
00:33:30Now, Jay, I'm going to start with you because you've been saying Lamar Jackson is going to
00:33:32play every week.
00:33:33He's missed the last three games.
00:33:34He hasn't played since October the 4th, but this is the Buffalo Bills who's coming off
00:33:38of a bye.
00:33:39So what do you expect in this Ravens versus Bills matchup?
00:33:41I'm no doctor.
00:33:42I didn't know.
00:33:43I just thought he might play with an ankle.
00:33:45Tape it up, Lamar.
00:33:46We need you.
00:33:46And they have the opportunity to score 30 points.
00:33:49This will be a huge boost for the entire team, not just the offense.
00:33:52The team will play harder if Lamar plays.
00:33:54And they will put up a lot of numbers against this Buffalo Bills defense.
00:33:57There's no doubt about it.
00:33:58However, the Bills will put up just as big a numbers as the Ravens will.
00:34:01So I believe this will be a 35 to 31 game.
00:34:04Whenever anybody scores over 30 points against the Bills, who wins?
00:34:07The Bills.
00:34:08Bills.
00:34:08There ain't no now.
00:34:09So I think that's going to be the type of game it is.
00:34:11And somebody please tackle Josh Allen.
00:34:13It's not going to happen.
00:34:14I love the Bills in this game.
00:34:15Again, you know, I'm the biggest Josh Allen fan there is in the country.
00:34:18So I'm taking the Bills.
00:34:19Yeah, he's Superman.
00:34:20And like you mentioned, when they score 30 points or when the other team does, they still
00:34:23win.
00:34:23It's been four times this season, coach.
00:34:25So when you look at Baltimore's second half collapses, though, that's a major issue.
00:34:29They cannot finish these games out.
00:34:31Really disappointed in their secondary.
00:34:33I mean, it wasn't so much what Cincinnati did.
00:34:35It's what they didn't do.
00:34:36They missed tackles.
00:34:37They blew coverages.
00:34:38It was bad.
00:34:39And to get 35 unanswered against you, that'll get your attention.
00:34:44I really like Buffalo because they're at home.
00:34:47I know they're going to outscore anybody in Buffalo.
00:34:50I just have a hard time when I look at the Bills defense, too.
00:34:53I mean, the Raiders, they're scoring touchdowns in dire situations.
00:34:57They can't stay on top of anybody.
00:34:59They've had a lot of young defensive players not come through.
00:35:03Rousseau is all they have.
00:35:05Hopefully, Ed Oliver suits it up at some point to give them a lift.
00:35:08But you said it's going to be a high-scoring game.
00:35:11Buffalo will win.
00:35:12Baltimore makes way too many mistakes in the back end.
00:35:15I don't know what their base coverage is.
00:35:17I don't know what their pressure package is.
00:35:19And I don't like their pass rush.
00:35:21I'm taking the Buffalo Bills.
00:35:22Who are you taking?
00:35:23I'm taking the Bills.
00:35:24Okay.
00:35:25Bills, let's go to Titans at the Bengals.
00:35:27Now, the Titans are 1-6, Coach.
00:35:29The Bengals 4-2.
00:35:30When you look at this Titans team, and Cam Ward is still struggling,
00:35:33and his numbers are going backwards, and then you look at Cincinnati.
00:35:36You look at Joe Burrow.
00:35:37We know everything.
00:35:37Can the Titans do anything against this team?
00:35:39You know what bothered me about the Titans last week was their two-minute defense.
00:35:42Cam Ward can't do this.
00:35:44Cam Ward can't do that.
00:35:45He took them down a field tied the damn game with 53 seconds left.
00:35:49And what is that defense?
00:35:50I mean, they throw a little under route to Harold Fannin.
00:35:52He's wide open, and he stiff-warms nine guys for the game-winning field goal.
00:35:58Cam Ward, we've got to start faster on offense.
00:36:00He hasn't thrown a touchdown pass this year in the first three quarters.
00:36:04All four of his touchdown passes are late.
00:36:06I'm going to take the Bengals to roll right now.
00:36:09I love Cincinnati.
00:36:10Don't like Tennessee.
00:36:11All right, Jay.
00:36:12He's got to get more help.
00:36:13Tate had a drop, a key drop on third down, and he had a big fumble.
00:36:15You know, that doesn't help a young quarterback.
00:36:17And Cam's got to throw more accurate passes, too, especially on the underneath stuff.
00:36:21You guys are making acrobatic catches on five-yard out routes.
00:36:24I'm like, come on, Cam.
00:36:25You're better than that.
00:36:26But the Bengals, second half.
00:36:28They went three and out, downs, pick, downs, downs against the Ravens last week.
00:36:33This Dexter Lawrence, Jonathan Allen, they're playing great up front.
00:36:36They're getting good pressure on the edge.
00:36:38Love the Bengals right now.
00:36:39Joe Burrow, five straight touchdowns last week.
00:36:41How can you take the Titans?
00:36:42Can't do it.
00:36:43Yeah, no.
00:36:43I mean, four touchdown passes in the second half.
00:36:45I love Joe Burrow.
00:36:46He's great.
00:36:46I'm starting to buy into the Bengals.
00:36:48Next game, we're out of time.
00:36:49I saw him eyeballing the sand.
00:36:50Because I'll tell you, the sand went out on you like 47.
00:36:52It went out on you.
00:36:53I didn't say nothing.
00:36:54I was actually going to say, that was on me.
00:36:55Just turn the thing.
00:36:56That was on me.
00:36:58Let's move it on here.
00:36:58Keep the show rolling.
00:36:59That was on me.
00:37:00I forgot to start it for you.
00:37:01So, technically, that's on me.
00:37:01I will be better with the shot clock.
00:37:03I will be better with the shot clock.
00:37:09Versus the Eagles.
00:37:10But, again, the Eagles are just an absolute mess.
00:37:12When you look at this Cowboys team at 3-4, what do you expect against the Cardinals?
00:37:15They better have a big win against the Cardinals.
00:37:17You've got to beat the Cardinals if you consider yourself a Super Bowl contender.
00:37:20This has to be a victory for them.
00:37:22Their pass rush has to get better.
00:37:24I mean, they got one sack last week from an edge guy, but it was on a TE stunt.
00:37:27I don't feel their defense at all.
00:37:29Quinny Williams did play a little bit better.
00:37:30I just don't feel it.
00:37:31We know the offense is good.
00:37:32I just don't feel it.
00:37:33I like the Cardinals' offense.
00:37:35I don't like the color.
00:37:36I don't like anything about the Cardinals.
00:37:37Their defense stinks.
00:37:38Offensively, Jacoby Brissett.
00:37:39I think it might be time to see the rookie from Miami, Carson Beck, John.
00:37:43I like that.
00:37:43It's getting right around the corner to see Carson Beck.
00:37:45A little spooky for Jacoby Brissett.
00:37:46It would be nice if Jeremiah Love would play, too.
00:37:48It would be nice.
00:37:48I mean, you know, we're supposedly going to unveil this guy.
00:37:51He's earned every game.
00:37:53The Cowboys on defense, Overshown came back, and he showed up, made a difference.
00:37:58But they jump off sides on defense every other play.
00:38:02It's embarrassing.
00:38:03I will say this, though.
00:38:04They ran the ball.
00:38:05I called him a seven-on-seven outfit two weeks ago, Javante Williams.
00:38:09And who the hell is Goodson?
00:38:10I like this Goodson guy.
00:38:12If they can run the ball and keep their defense fresh and off the field, the Cowboys have a great
00:38:18slate coming up.
00:38:19Listen to this.
00:38:19I know they got the 49ers in the next five games, but they can beat Arizona, the Colts, the Titans,
00:38:25and the Eagles.
00:38:26They can really go on a roll here.
00:38:29How about them, Cowboys?
00:38:30Cowboys are going to smoke these guys.
00:38:32Are you taking the Cowboys as far?
00:38:33Taking the Cowboys.
00:38:34I know you want the Cowboys because that was one of your preseason picks.
00:38:36So we're on the Dallas Cowboys bandwagon.
00:38:38All right, let's go Colts at the Jags.
00:38:41And the Jags have won 11 straight at home.
00:38:43I don't want to start this.
00:38:44I need to give you your extra time.
00:38:4611 straight at home versus Indy.
00:38:47The Colts are having a fire sale right now.
00:38:49They're trading everybody away.
00:38:50We know they're fired.
00:38:50They're general manager.
00:38:51John, I will start with you.
00:38:52These two teams, 2-5 Colts, 4-2 Jags, what do you expect?
00:38:56Well, hell, I don't know what to think about that.
00:38:58What do you think is going to happen?
00:38:59The Jaguars are coming off a bye week.
00:39:02They took a week off after their London trip.
00:39:05They don't do anything well right now in Indianapolis.
00:39:07They don't pick up blitzes.
00:39:09They don't pass protect.
00:39:10They turn the ball over too much.
00:39:11They don't have any receivers other than Josh Downs.
00:39:14Sauce Gardner is out.
00:39:15I don't know if Tyler Warren is playing.
00:39:17The Jaguar defense, the Teal Curtain.
00:39:21Don't forget that nickname.
00:39:22This is a very good team.
00:39:24Trevor owns Indianapolis.
00:39:26I wouldn't be surprised if he buys a house in Indianapolis.
00:39:29They are going to win big.
00:39:31The Colts are going down.
00:39:32All right.
00:39:33Jay, what do you think?
00:39:34Trevor's up for MVP.
00:39:35Their defense can stop the run.
00:39:37None of that's good for Indianapolis.
00:39:38The Colts have hit a Titanic.
00:39:40They hit an iceberg.
00:39:41Titanic is sinking fast.
00:39:43And if the Colts get down early, this will be a woe is me game.
00:39:46And this could be a bloodbath.
00:39:47The Jaguars could win by 30.
00:39:49What do you think from Daniel Jones?
00:39:50Because over the last four games, he's had one touchdown, four interceptions.
00:39:53What do they do with him?
00:39:54Well, they don't really have a lot of down the field threats, really.
00:39:57You know, they really don't.
00:39:58Downs is more of an – and Keenan Allen, they're not guys that are going to pressure you down the
00:40:02field.
00:40:03Everybody's honing in on Jonathan Taylor.
00:40:05And they're getting stymied.
00:40:06And the pass blocking is not good enough for him to have time to get it down the field.
00:40:09All right, Coach, your Raiders versus the New York Jets.
00:40:13Turn that thing.
00:40:14Leave that off for them.
00:40:15Oh, we're going to leave this off.
00:40:16I'm going to talk about this game.
00:40:16Let's go.
00:40:16No shot clock.
00:40:17No shot clock.
00:40:18The Raiders are at the Jets.
00:40:20The Raiders have lost four straight games after winning their first three.
00:40:23I understand that.
00:40:25It's our defense that's letting us down right now in Vegas.
00:40:28In our last four games, we're giving up 36 points a game.
00:40:31The Jets, though, I don't think they can take advantage of that.
00:40:34They just don't do enough on offense.
00:40:36The Jets, at the end of the half, 107 to 6, they've been outscored in the last year
00:40:42in seven games.
00:40:43Not good.
00:40:44They don't use Garrett Wilson very much.
00:40:47Geno Smith going back up against the team that let them go.
00:40:51Is there some motivation there?
00:40:53I think this has the look of a high-scoring game.
00:40:56But the Jets make too many critical mistakes on defense to win, Jay.
00:41:01I mean, Minka Fitzpatrick on that corner blitz last week knocked the guy out of bounds.
00:41:06They bring four to a side.
00:41:08They match it the wrong way.
00:41:09They don't cover the tight end.
00:41:10They have a bust on the first play of the game.
00:41:13The corner's wide open.
00:41:14They just make some glaring mistakes that are going to cost them against Kirk Covins.
00:41:19I look at Kirk Cousins against Geno Smith, and I'm taking Kirk Cousins and the Raiders.
00:41:24A lot of conversation about Kirk Cousins.
00:41:26Clint Kubiak said this week there is absolutely no quarterback controversy, so stop talking about it.
00:41:30We're always going to talk about it because Fernando Mendoza is there.
00:41:32But when you look at this Raiders team, despite the fact they've lost four straight, what can you expect?
00:41:36Well, they lost four straight to Chiefs, Patriots, Bills, and Rams.
00:41:40Those are four pretty damn good teams.
00:41:42And Kirk had a decent game last week.
00:41:44The Jets, on the other hand, they played Miami at home.
00:41:4721 plays.
00:41:48First 21 plays for the Dolphins.
00:41:50This offense has not been good.
00:41:51Two touchdowns in the first 21 plays by the Dolphins.
00:41:54The Raiders are a much better offense.
00:41:56They're bringing Brock Bowers.
00:41:57Trey Tucker's having one hell of a year.
00:41:58And Kirk's throwing the ball well.
00:42:00I'm with John on this.
00:42:01I love the Raiders.
00:42:02The Jets, if they need a stop in the four-minute drill on defense, they ain't going to get it.
00:42:06They haven't got one yet this year.
00:42:08It's frustrating as hell to me.
00:42:09They can't get off the field on defense.
00:42:11Nine-minute drive to end the game.
00:42:12Did you see that power play at the end of the game?
00:42:14Oh, my God.
00:42:14Did you see the movement that the Miami Dolphins got against the Jets?
00:42:17It's unbelievable.
00:42:18The Dolphins guard is on the other side of the field.
00:42:20You ever heard of Snake Plissken, that movie, Escape from New York?
00:42:23Yeah.
00:42:24That's what I feel like.
00:42:25The Raiders, I used to tell our players, we go up here, we're going to be like Snake Plissken.
00:42:29We're going to win this game and escape from New York.
00:42:31But it's like the Rotten Apple.
00:42:32It's not the Big Apple.
00:42:33It's the Rotten Apple.
00:42:35I got a stat here.
00:42:36I mean, the Jets have lost 189 freaking games at home in the last, I don't know, since 1981 or
00:42:44something.
00:42:45I mean, it's just, look, there's Snake right there.
00:42:48Hey, let's get this win and get the hell out of here.
00:42:53Get out of there with a win, man.
00:42:54We should have made you wear an eye patch the whole show.
00:42:56If I have to wear a hat, you should have worn an eye patch.
00:42:58Aaron Glenn, by the way, 0-8 against the AFC East in the last couple of years.
00:43:01Not good.
00:43:02The only issue we have with the Raiders is I think we're 2-13 in our last 15 games going
00:43:07to an Eastern time zone.
00:43:09So hopefully they go out there Friday and get a nice cup of coffee and go get this win and
00:43:14escape with a W.
00:43:15Good thing we brought this sand.
00:43:17Well, he said that we're not using the sand for this one.
00:43:19This is the Escape from New York game.
00:43:22Yeah, it's okay.
00:43:22He's allowed to.
00:43:23It is technically your show.
00:43:24So if you want to talk over, you can talk over.
00:43:26Let's talk Patriots at Dolphins, Jay.
00:43:28Okay, so the Dolphins, like we mentioned, they get their first win of the season.
00:43:30They beat the Jets.
00:43:31The Patriots lose to the Bears in Thursday night football.
00:43:34But Drake May is still playing very well.
00:43:35You know, we looked at it earlier this season.
00:43:37All of that disaster seems to be gone for him.
00:43:39When you look at him going to Miami to play this Dolphins team, who still is terrible, what do you
00:43:43expect?
00:43:44I love the fact, the only good thing about playing on Thursdays is those extra three days to get ready
00:43:48for your next opponent and give your team some rest.
00:43:50That's what the Patriots have right now to really prepare for the Dolphins.
00:43:53I know Mike Vrabel, these guys are not going to take the Dolphins lightly.
00:43:56The Dolphins came out, like I said, 21 plays in the first 21, two touchdowns for the Dolphins.
00:44:00They can play physical football.
00:44:02Ollie Gordon's running hard.
00:44:04They have Caleb Downs, or what's his name?
00:44:06Caleb Douglas is a damn good receiver.
00:44:09Two catches, two touchdowns last week.
00:44:10They're young and they're upcoming.
00:44:12They're going to play hard.
00:44:12But I think the Pats, with those three extra days, will come in and beat the hell out of the
00:44:16Dolphins.
00:44:17Coach?
00:44:17It's always tough for New England going to Miami, though.
00:44:19I don't know why.
00:44:20It is.
00:44:20But it's tough to go down there, you know.
00:44:23Here's a stat for you.
00:44:24The Dolphin defense has given up 77% completions.
00:44:28That's not good against Drake May.
00:44:30They got no pass rush.
00:44:31But the Patriot offensive line has had 15 different combinations.
00:44:35They have had guys coming and going.
00:44:37But Drake May, against this zone defense, looked for a lot of Hunter Henry, a lot of Stevenson,
00:44:44a lot of backs in this underneath coverage.
00:44:47They ripped them last year with that choice takeoff to Stevenson.
00:44:51I think Patriots are going to win this game.
00:44:53But it's going to be competitive.
00:44:54It always is in Miami.
00:44:56Yeah, there's always something weird about it.
00:44:57And I know the time is out, but I do want to ask a question.
00:44:59Malik Willis had his best game of the season.
00:45:01Now I know it's against the New York Jets.
00:45:02But what are you seeing from Malik Willis thus far?
00:45:04He did have a good game.
00:45:05He played really well.
00:45:05But he used his legs at really good times, too.
00:45:08Third and seventh scrambler for a first down.
00:45:09They had a third and 90.
00:45:10He ran a quarterback draw for a first down.
00:45:12So I like that's the way you got to utilize him.
00:45:14Let him play.
00:45:15Let him have some fun.
00:45:15Let him have some freedom with using his legs and scramble.
00:45:17So I do like the way he played.
00:45:19He got the ball to different people.
00:45:20Tight end makes some big plays.
00:45:22I mentioned Douglas made some good plays.
00:45:23So I like the way he's getting better.
00:45:26Yeah, a little bit of a confidence booster maybe for him.
00:45:28All right, this Sunday night football game, I'm sure when this was slated,
00:45:31was going to be an absolutely electric game.
00:45:32Everyone was going to be super excited.
00:45:34It's the Eagles versus the Commanders, the two and five Eagles,
00:45:37the one, four, and one Washington Commanders.
00:45:39Just not a fun Halloween weekend game, Jay.
00:45:41And you look at the absolute disaster that's happening in Philadelphia.
00:45:45What do you expect?
00:45:45Why is it not a fun game?
00:45:46This is a great game.
00:45:47It's the Eagles versus Commanders, man.
00:45:48It's supposed to be.
00:45:48This is a great rivalry.
00:45:50Yeah, what's wrong with you?
00:45:50I mean, you're a wicked witch of the freaking West.
00:45:53I won my first NFC title playing the Eagles, man.
00:45:56It's a special place.
00:45:57It should have been.
00:45:58These two teams, not so much fun to watch right now.
00:46:00I'm excited to see Jayden Daniels bounce back from a couple questionable decisions with
00:46:04the football.
00:46:05He's been getting hammered quite a bit.
00:46:06He was the king of the city.
00:46:08Now everybody's like, does he know what he's doing?
00:46:10Is he taking it seriously?
00:46:11He's going to take it seriously in this game.
00:46:13He's got a big game.
00:46:13We lost Terry McLaurin, which is a big loss.
00:46:15However, they're going to do it by committee.
00:46:18Antonio Williams, Stephon Diggs, Burks, they're going to have a good game.
00:46:21Chig will have a nice game at tight end.
00:46:22Rashad White at running back.
00:46:24They'll spread the ball around, get the running game going.
00:46:26Eagles with Tanner McKee and no tush push.
00:46:28They tried to tush push last week.
00:46:30They fumbled it.
00:46:31No tush push on third one.
00:46:33Now what do you do?
00:46:34We just got to watch Saquon.
00:46:35Saquon looked like his old self for the first half.
00:46:38Hopefully he didn't pull his hammy again.
00:46:39But if we can slow down Saquon, then we're going to get a good victory.
00:46:42That was another thing, though, is that he did look like he got re-injured.
00:46:45Now we don't know exactly what that looks like, but what do you expect from this matchup?
00:46:48Yeah, I expect Jaden Daniels to tear these guys up.
00:46:51What bothers me about Philadelphia is their defense.
00:46:53You can say Jalen is out.
00:46:55You can say all the offensive linemen are gone.
00:46:57I say no running game BS.
00:46:59Their defense gave up 38 points to the Dallas Cowboys.
00:47:03They didn't cause one negative play.
00:47:05And I'm looking at these players.
00:47:07Now they gave Jordan Davis, the tackle, three years for $78 million.
00:47:11They gave Jalen Carter the biggest contract ever for anybody to ever play defensive tackle.
00:47:17And they gave Jonathan Grenard, they gave two third-round picks to Minnesota.
00:47:20They gave him $98 million.
00:47:22I don't see anything.
00:47:23I don't see a pass rush.
00:47:24I don't see penetration.
00:47:24I don't see nothing.
00:47:26And they brought in Rick Wulin to play the other corner.
00:47:29They still got Quinjon Mitchell.
00:47:30I'm looking out there.
00:47:31They still got Zach Bond.
00:47:33They got this Jihad Campbell.
00:47:35You know what?
00:47:36They're going to get smoked by Jalen Daniels and the Washington Commanders.
00:47:41I think this is a get-back-on-track game for the Commanders.
00:47:44And anything can happen.
00:47:46The East is still wide open.
00:47:48But Jalen Daniels in the second half against the 49ers, just watch that tape,
00:47:52and you'll see this kid winning in the pocket.
00:47:55He can win in the pocket.
00:47:56And we all know when the pocket breaks down what he can do.
00:47:58I just hope it's Jaden, not Jalen, because Jalen plays for the Bucs.
00:48:01Yeah.
00:48:01Jalen.
00:48:02That's close enough.
00:48:03I mean, listen, I know we talked about it off the top of the show, trick-or-treat.
00:48:06I mean, the NFC East, the fact the Giants are atop at 4-2-1.
00:48:09Respectfully, I know this is a big rivalry, but these two teams,
00:48:12they're not playing well right now, but the division is still pretty wide open.
00:48:14The problem is the Commanders are so far behind, but if they beat the Eagles,
00:48:18they can make a little bit of ground on the Giants.
00:48:19Yes.
00:48:20Got to make some ground.
00:48:21Nobody has this division locked up, and it's going to come down to the wire.
00:48:25Somebody's going to make a run, and I'm hoping it's Washington.
00:48:27All right, let's go to the Falcons at the Bucs.
00:48:30I'm going to leave the timer off for this one, too.
00:48:31It's your Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
00:48:33Like you said, Baker is back.
00:48:35They scored a season-high 43 points last week.
00:48:37And then meanwhile, you've got the Falcons, John,
00:48:39and you look at when Michael Penix Jr. is playing.
00:48:40They're a completely different team, how well he's been playing.
00:48:43Three touchdowns versus the 49ers.
00:48:45What do you expect in this game?
00:48:47I expect Penix to have to throw the football because Bijan, as great as he is,
00:48:52I know he leads the league in rushing,
00:48:53but against Tampa the last six times, they have kept a lid on him.
00:48:57This is not a team Atlanta's going to come in here and run the ball against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
00:49:02So he's going to have to throw the ball.
00:49:03They're going to have to pick up some blitzes.
00:49:05And this Buccaneer defense has been great.
00:49:07I do think the Bucs are going to have to get more out of their passing game,
00:49:11though Baker only had to throw it 11 times coming off that thumb.
00:49:14But they can hand it off, and they can wear you out.
00:49:16But our Buccaneer defense, man, I mean the sacks, the fumble recovery for a touchdown.
00:49:22They got a lot of contributions from their special teams.
00:49:24They block a PAT.
00:49:26They fumble a punt, and we recover it.
00:49:28So all three phases played well.
00:49:31I think this is the game.
00:49:33Now, if Tampa Bay wins this game, a lot of good days could be on the horizon.
00:49:37I can't wait for this one.
00:49:39And the last six games have been decided by six points or fewer.
00:49:42So these are very close games, Jay.
00:49:44What do you expect to see from your big brother's Bucs?
00:49:46Well, if they do stop Bijan Robbins, it's a big if.
00:49:48Not many teams can do it, but the Bucs can because they're the number one or two ranked defense in
00:49:52the league
00:49:52and stopping the run.
00:49:53That means Todd Bowles is going to be like this.
00:49:56He sees a non-mobile quarterback who's had three knee surgeries.
00:49:59He is going to bring the house.
00:50:00He saw what the Bears did.
00:50:02He is going to bring the house.
00:50:04It's going to be a long day.
00:50:05So it's going to be critical for the Falcons to get some perimeter screens, get Bijan on the edge,
00:50:10try to get some first downs and some positive plays.
00:50:12Otherwise, it'll be a long day for Penix and the Falcons.
00:50:14But that division, Panthers 3-3, Atlanta's 3-4, Tampa's 2-5.
00:50:18And the Saints, as bad as they are, they're 2-5.
00:50:20They're right in it.
00:50:21So if this is still anybody's division, this is a huge game.
00:50:24The Bucs got to win it, though.
00:50:25Okay, so we know that Gruden's Vault is all – people love Gruden's Vault, by the way.
00:50:29They love your stories.
00:50:30And we are going to talk about the Falcons at the Buccaneers.
00:50:33This is presented by Reese's.
00:50:34So it's Halloween week, as you can see.
00:50:35I'm wearing a witch's hat.
00:50:36Why don't you start eating some of these, huh?
00:50:38Can you eat some of those?
00:50:39We'll have more.
00:50:41Reese's is the official candy of Barstool Sports.
00:50:43If you're looking for the best candy in the game, trick-or-treating,
00:50:46whether you have kids, you're an adult, or you just want to eat the best candy,
00:50:48make sure you get Reese's.
00:50:49It's the unbeatable combo of chocolate and peanut butter.
00:50:52It's the absolute best.
00:50:53And listen, I have a 3-year-old.
00:50:54We're going trick-or-treating.
00:50:55If he's getting any Reese's, they're mine.
00:50:57He doesn't know any different, right?
00:50:58They are mine.
00:50:58So this week for the Gruden's Vault,
00:51:00we are doing the Falcons versus the Buccaneers on Christmas Eve in 2005.
00:51:04What do you got for us?
00:51:05Well, this NFC South, it was 2002 when realignment came.
00:51:10And the rival really began, the rival began when they got Mike Vick.
00:51:14The Falcons went out and got this great quarterback.
00:51:16We had Simeon and Warren Sapp, and we had Barber and Lynch.
00:51:19We had the guys to go get them.
00:51:21Well, we lost some of our players.
00:51:23Vick, he wouldn't go away, though.
00:51:24So in 2005, Christmas Eve, we're 9-5.
00:51:28Here comes Vick and the Falcons.
00:51:30They're 8-6.
00:51:31And it's a huge rivalry game, man.
00:51:33And it's for the division title.
00:51:36And the game goes into overtime.
00:51:37And we had a rookie running back.
00:51:39We had a young offensive team.
00:51:41Chris Sims was at quarterback, a bunch of young linemen.
00:51:44We had a veteran receiver with a gray beard named Joey Galloway.
00:51:47But we had this rookie of the year named Cadillac Williams.
00:51:50And Cadillac Williams, what he did for us that year,
00:51:55we handed it to him 35 times, 31 times for 150 yards.
00:52:00Fourth down, he goes for it.
00:52:02We got the game plan right here.
00:52:03And we ended up in overtime winning this game 27-24.
00:52:08And it led us to the division championship.
00:52:11I got a chance to catch up with Cadillac Williams.
00:52:15But, you know, it's funny.
00:52:17The game is tied.
00:52:18Overtime starts.
00:52:19They kick the ball off to us.
00:52:20We fumbled the kickoff.
00:52:21Bill Shepard.
00:52:22And here's Peterson to kick a chip shot field goal.
00:52:25Dwayne White blocked it.
00:52:26We get the ball back.
00:52:27We go right down the field.
00:52:29And we get a field goal missed.
00:52:32Our guy snap hooked it.
00:52:33He never missed.
00:52:34So late in the game, this Cadillac Williams, let me tell you,
00:52:37he got stronger as the game went on.
00:52:3920 yards in the first, 25 in the second, 30 in the third.
00:52:44He had 45 yards in overtime.
00:52:46Carnell, Cadillac Williams, 27-24.
00:52:49And I drank, I think, three glasses of Bailey's Irish Cream on Christmas Eve.
00:52:54What a night.
00:52:55This is Falcon Week, Buccaneers.
00:52:58And we got Bucky Irving.
00:53:00We need about 170 out of Bucky.
00:53:03Fired up.
00:53:05Cadillac Williams.
00:53:05What a great, great guy.
00:53:08God, the way he ran.
00:53:09He reminded me of this Monung guy for the Bears.
00:53:12He just, like, every run he ran was the last run of his life.
00:53:15Physical.
00:53:15Physical.
00:53:16And you got to talk to him this week, right?
00:53:18I talked to him this week.
00:53:19And he loved 96F counter King.
00:53:21Killed 93 a week.
00:53:22He'll tell you.
00:53:22All right.
00:53:23Let's run it.
00:53:24Well, it's with great privilege I get to welcome the Rookie of the Year in 2005,
00:53:30one of my old first-round draft choices, Carnell, the Cadillac Williams.
00:53:35Thanks for joining me.
00:53:37Man, thank you for having me, Coach Gru.
00:53:39Man, it's a pleasure.
00:53:41You know, back in 2004, I was scouting you at Auburn,
00:53:45and we took you to the Senior Bowl.
00:53:47Do you remember playing for me at the Senior Bowl?
00:53:50I do.
00:53:50I do remember.
00:53:51How many times did I hand you the ball in the Senior Bowl?
00:53:56Zero.
00:53:57And we upset a lot of people.
00:53:59Yeah, everybody in Alabama wanted to beat me up on the way to the car,
00:54:02but I said, I'm going to draft this guy with the fifth pick.
00:54:05You think I'm going to get him beat up in the Senior Bowl?
00:54:09I know.
00:54:10No, that was a pretty cool experience, you know,
00:54:13just that whole weekend to be around you and your staff.
00:54:17And the guy, that was a cool experience.
00:54:19I want to remind you of this game now.
00:54:20We've had a nice season.
00:54:22You get off to an incredible, unforgettable start, but you are hurt.
00:54:27You miss a couple games.
00:54:28You end up getting hot again.
00:54:30And now we're playing the Atlanta Falcons.
00:54:33Michael Vick comes to town on Christmas Eve.
00:54:35They're 8-6.
00:54:36And they got Keith Brookings and Patrick Kearney and Rod Coleman,
00:54:41D'Angelo Hall.
00:54:43That Demario Williams used to tick me off.
00:54:46We win this game 27-24 in overtime.
00:54:49And we get to overtime.
00:54:51And like I said, Cadillac, I know, is getting stronger as the game goes on.
00:54:56You had 150 yards on 31 carries in this game.
00:55:02You had 16 in the first quarter, 22 in the second quarter,
00:55:0532 in the third quarter, 35 in the fourth quarter,
00:55:09and then in overtime you had 45 yards.
00:55:14And we had a fourth and one we called 92-week, kill it with 97, power king.
00:55:19And you just bounced it to the outside and skipped into the end zone.
00:55:22That particular Christmas Eve, what do you remember seeing the Falcons
00:55:27come out of the tunnel and how you knew you had to carry us?
00:55:32Well, man, you know, first of all, like you said, it was a divisional game.
00:55:38It was for the NFC South.
00:55:40And, again, I was like a fan.
00:55:42I seen, you know, Michael Bick, though, Gabe, Gato, got their prop.
00:55:46But, man, coach, I got in the zone that game as the game went.
00:55:52And, you know, it's like the more that, you know, they hit me
00:55:56and the more I got opportunity to get down here.
00:55:59And if you watch that fourth quarter, like I broke, I still can't remember,
00:56:04I broke so many tackles from, you know, 97 power, 96 power to 92, 93 cannon.
00:56:11And, man, I just appreciate you giving me the opportunity to ride me.
00:56:15And, you know, the guys up front paving the way.
00:56:18But, man, that was an electrifying day there.
00:56:21Do you remember you would be trying to come out of the game
00:56:23and Art Valero would be trying to sub in?
00:56:26What would I say?
00:56:27Get your ass back.
00:56:28You stay.
00:56:29Get back in there.
00:56:32Well, 2005, we didn't take one snap in the shotgun, man.
00:56:35We were under the center every single play.
00:56:38And I used to love having you back there seven and a half yards deep.
00:56:41Sometimes you cheat back to about eight.
00:56:43Eight.
00:56:44And maybe you can just tell fans real quick why you liked getting the ball
00:56:49in the I formation as opposed to some of these slower developing shotgun runs.
00:56:55Well, honestly, being in the I formation versus being in the gun,
00:57:01I just feel like my peripheral vision, I got three ways.
00:57:06And now my shoulders can get square, especially on, you know, inside zones
00:57:10and, you know, the downhill, you know, power plays.
00:57:15Now my shoulders could be completely square where I'm not cutting out my peripheral vision
00:57:21where now I have a three-way goal where I can get vertical or I can make a cut east
00:57:25or west.
00:57:26And as you see in football, a lot of that is coming back now.
00:57:30I love the way the Chicago Bears, I mean, the in that coast.
00:57:34I love the way those guys get down here.
00:57:36I love what the Kansas City Chiefs are doing, you know, with getting him in the eye,
00:57:42walking in the eye and getting down here and letting a guy who has superb vision,
00:57:47great contact balance.
00:57:48And then those guys, as you know, Coach, running backs make a lot of the alignments up front a lot
00:57:55better, man.
00:57:56And that's the game go, man.
00:57:57It's just, it's easier on a play call for you guys, I'm sure, too.
00:58:03Whenever you can hand it to a guy that's going to get your four, five, six, eight yards
00:58:07and then break those long runs.
00:58:09So, I'm a guy.
00:58:10How many times we run 96 powers that we set up spider two wide banana for all stock.
00:58:16Spider two wide banana, exactly.
00:58:18Yes, exactly.
00:58:20Yeah.
00:58:21I never did ask you, what'd you do Christmas Eve after you ran for 150 yards and helped us win
00:58:26the division?
00:58:27Did you go out and have a party or what'd you do that night?
00:58:29You know what?
00:58:30It was a lot of family in town.
00:58:32I had my whole, just about my whole entire family in town.
00:58:37So, man, we celebrated at the house, man.
00:58:41And, man, oh, you're bringing back some memories there, man.
00:58:44When are you coming back to Tampa, man?
00:58:45We need you back here.
00:58:46When are you coming back?
00:58:48Man, hey, man.
00:58:49Once I get the invite, coach, I still need to get down there and see you and get in the
00:58:55dungeon with you and talk some ball.
00:58:58Listen to me.
00:58:59We're going to beat Atlanta and we're going to be back on track.
00:59:02So, you look at your schedule in the next couple months and get your butt down here.
00:59:06We got all the old films to look at.
00:59:09We'll go over to Raymond James Stadium and we'll help the Bucs win another division title.
00:59:13But they're playing Atlanta this Sunday.
00:59:16And one of my great memories in coaching is that 150-yard show you put on, man.
00:59:22And I thank you, brother.
00:59:23I love you.
00:59:25I love you, coach, man.
00:59:26I appreciate you, coach.
00:59:27Thank you for having me, man.
00:59:28And look forward to seeing you.
00:59:30Hey, Houston.
00:59:31We have a problem.
00:59:32All right.
00:59:32It's time for everybody's favorite segment, the Shredline.
00:59:34You get some things off your chest.
00:59:36And like I said, every Sunday when I'm watching these games, I'm just picturing which team is calling in to
00:59:40really just get out their emotions.
00:59:41Yell at you, yell at us.
00:59:43I can't wait.
00:59:43I know.
00:59:43Can't wait.
00:59:44But first, you have some things that you want to shred this week.
00:59:47Some teams specifically.
00:59:48Well, I need to gong.
00:59:49I want to gong the Carolina Panthers.
00:59:52I mean, you're in first place, man.
00:59:54You're playing a home game against your arch rivals.
00:59:57They didn't even come out of the locker room.
00:59:58All three phases, they got sucker punched.
01:00:02That was disappointing.
01:00:03The second team is the Eagles.
01:00:05Gong them.
01:00:06Unbelievable.
01:00:07We made a big deal about the Cowboy-Eagle rivalry.
01:00:10Philly didn't get the message.
01:00:12And the last team I want to gang is the Ravens.
01:00:14Gong them.
01:00:16You're head 13 to nothing at home, man.
01:00:19You're playing the Bengals.
01:00:21You get to outscore 35 to nothing.
01:00:23You can't tackle.
01:00:24You blow coverages.
01:00:26What?
01:00:26They never blew coverages against me when I was coaching.
01:00:29Me neither.
01:00:30Hell, the Eagles and the Ravens on defense.
01:00:33And the league-leading Panthers.
01:00:36Now, I know that they're on a bye week, but do you have anything to say about the Texans?
01:00:39Yeah, I'll tell you this about the Texans.
01:00:41Remember this, Casey.
01:00:42Write them down.
01:00:43The four T's.
01:00:44The first T is travel agent.
01:00:46Who the hell is the travel agent for the Texans?
01:00:50Why would you play in London and fly home and play on a short week like that?
01:00:54You see, the Jaguars, what'd they do, Jay?
01:00:56They took a bye.
01:00:56Yeah, so the travel agent.
01:00:57Okay, that's why.
01:00:58Even at Christmas.
01:00:59The guys were exhausted.
01:01:00The second thing is the tailor.
01:01:02Who makes these uniforms?
01:01:04Red pants, red shirts, and a red hat.
01:01:07They look like red riding hood.
01:01:09The third T is how about tackle?
01:01:11I mean, they miss a tackle.
01:01:13Scadaboo, he's a great back.
01:01:15Hello?
01:01:16We got to get him on the ground.
01:01:17Jesus.
01:01:18And then the last T is a tush push.
01:01:21It's fourth and one.
01:01:22We put Stover in for a tush push, and we jump off shots.
01:01:27So remember the four T's.
01:01:31Four gongs.
01:01:32I feel like I'm in college again.
01:01:33I picked them to go to the friggin' Super Bowl.
01:01:36Got an arm work out there.
01:01:37All right, Jay, do you have anything you'd like to get off your chest?
01:01:40No, I'll listen to the callers here.
01:01:41That was enough for me.
01:01:42My head's still ringing from the gong.
01:01:44Yeah, you didn't have to hit it that hard.
01:01:46You just barely tap it.
01:01:47Thank God almighty.
01:01:48I felt like it wasn't loud enough the first couple of times.
01:01:50Get to the callers, William.
01:01:51You've got to get to the point here, okay?
01:01:54See, and if I didn't do it loud enough, then they'd bitch and complain about that.
01:01:57Whatever.
01:01:57This is a shred line.
01:01:58That's how we complain.
01:01:58Let's go to the Packers shredding the refs.
01:02:02Hey, Coach.
01:02:03I just want to know what the fuck is going on with these referees, man.
01:02:09These Green Bay Packers.
01:02:12Roughing the passer.
01:02:14Man, no targeting calling Kraft, man.
01:02:17I get it.
01:02:19You've got to make the call sometimes, but the inconsistencies are killing me.
01:02:23I mean, Smack should have made those two field goals, but oh my goodness.
01:02:26All right.
01:02:26You see, he started shredding.
01:02:28Then he got into like a tearful, hopeless, whining.
01:02:32And we still should have made the field goal.
01:02:34I mean, hell.
01:02:35He tried to be mad.
01:02:36He really tried.
01:02:37If Evan Williams intercepts a pass, if they can make a field goal after they stop them
01:02:42on fourth down, they win the game.
01:02:44Josh Jacobs catches over.
01:02:45Josh Jacobs usually makes that play.
01:02:47But some of those calls I can agree with were a little bit, geez.
01:02:52What is roughing the passer?
01:02:54We talked about what is a fumble by the quarterback.
01:02:56Now we have to go back and look at what is roughing the passer.
01:02:58He just got run into and he fell down.
01:03:01It's football for God's sake.
01:03:03You can't call a roughing the passer unless it's blatant.
01:03:05They got to call it the same.
01:03:07Somehow there's got to be some consistency.
01:03:10Ripping his head off.
01:03:11Yeah.
01:03:11Jordan Love hasn't had one called for him all season.
01:03:14I think they've had eight total.
01:03:15So every time you see Packers fans online bitching about the refs, it feels like it's
01:03:18an okay thing to do at this point.
01:03:19I agree.
01:03:20I watched that game closely.
01:03:21I think there was two or three, at least two or three DPI calls that weren't called on
01:03:24Detroit that should have been as well as it were big plays.
01:03:26There was a one-sided game that was refereed for the Lions.
01:03:30Now the Lions earned the victory great, but I still think that game was tough to watch.
01:03:34All right.
01:03:35Let's go to, speaking of tough to watch, the New York Jets.
01:03:38Let's hear from a fan.
01:03:40Gruden, the Jets fucking suck.
01:03:43I don't know what I did to deserve this.
01:03:46The coaching sucks.
01:03:48They couldn't move it one yard on the goal line.
01:03:51Gino Smith can't throw it to open receivers.
01:03:55He had Jeremy Rucker, St. Patrick, and as he had made this wide open, and he couldn't
01:04:00get a wide open.
01:04:03Cut this guy off.
01:04:04Is he actually behind me?
01:04:04Is this crying?
01:04:05Somebody check on him.
01:04:06Who screened these calls?
01:04:08Where's Malicek?
01:04:10Wellness check on that guy.
01:04:11It's not a shred.
01:04:11I mean, but the shred is real.
01:04:12I mean, they just, they stunk it up in some key situations last week.
01:04:18But most importantly, when the game is on the line, it's your defense that has to get you
01:04:23the ball back, and they can't get off the field.
01:04:25They cannot get off the field.
01:04:27You know, I know, we all know, we're going to run the ball.
01:04:31And they ran it right down their throat, just like the Bears did, and they can't get the
01:04:34ball back, and Gino can't get the rock.
01:04:36And where the hell's Garrett Wilson?
01:04:38What was that whining?
01:04:39I actually thought he was faking crying at first, and then I heard like the sniffle,
01:04:43and I was like, no, I think this is a real cry.
01:04:45I'm worried about that guy.
01:04:45You know what, though?
01:04:47When you run a corner blitz, and they throw a little out route, and you can't knock a
01:04:50guy down or get him out of bounds.
01:04:52And the backside is loafing.
01:04:54And the backside's not hauling ass to the play.
01:04:56Bad ball.
01:04:57It's bad ball.
01:04:58Yeah, it makes them cry, apparently.
01:04:59Let's go to the Saints.
01:05:01They want to shred the running game.
01:05:04Hey, Coach.
01:05:05This is Jerry from New Orleans.
01:05:06I'm going to have to ask you to pardon my French.
01:05:08Can you explain to the Saints team how to run the fucking football?
01:05:12We average, what, 1.5 yards per attempt?
01:05:17Aaron Rodgers, who's 40 years old, had more rushing yards than our entire team?
01:05:22That's insanity.
01:05:24If you cannot run 50% of your offense, and all you can do is throw the ball, then how
01:05:32can we win a game?
01:05:33And Chuck went, what, 30 for 38 with a pick?
01:05:36He played as perfect as you possibly could when you literally cannot run the football.
01:05:41All right.
01:05:42So, please teach me and the Saints how to fix this problem, because we will not win
01:05:47a game again until we get home.
01:05:48It would help if your quarterback ever got out of the shotgun and got under the center
01:05:51and ran a real running play.
01:05:53That actually helps as well.
01:05:54That helps.
01:05:55I don't see any underneath the center runs.
01:05:57They don't ever have a tight end in the core.
01:05:59They don't have a fullback anymore.
01:06:01And they don't have Carl Nix.
01:06:02They don't have the guys that are in three-point stances coming off the ball like they did
01:06:07when I was there.
01:06:08Just running inside zone?
01:06:09They're running RPOs.
01:06:10You know, every run has a built-in pass option.
01:06:13Hell, get them down in stances, close the splits down, and run the ball off tackle.
01:06:18But I don't know.
01:06:20Donaldson's hurt the running back, the young kid.
01:06:22They got a veteran Camara.
01:06:24Kendra Miller, I don't know.
01:06:25They don't have any commitment to running the ball, and it's quite obvious.
01:06:29I do like that guy said, please excuse my French, as if we're a very family-safe show all the
01:06:33time.
01:06:33You know, he was respectful a little bit.
01:06:35They are two and five.
01:06:36They have the same record as the Buccaneers, who John said it was a treat.
01:06:39So maybe the Saints can turn it around as well.
01:06:43I mean, he can't say that they're a trick.
01:06:45You got to know that.
01:06:46He's going to stand and take it.
01:06:47I just don't feel like the Saints.
01:06:49When Drew Brees was there, we saw him twice a year.
01:06:51They could run it right down your face with Mike Bell and Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas,
01:06:56Ingram, McAllister, Ingram, and they would run it and punish your face, man.
01:07:01They really would.
01:07:02And at the end of the game, when they had a lead, they'd wear you out.
01:07:05I just don't see it.
01:07:06I don't see the play-action passes.
01:07:07I don't see the running game.
01:07:09I never see them under the center, and I think that's a start.
01:07:12All right.
01:07:12Anything else, guys?
01:07:13This has been quite a fiery show.
01:07:15Anything else you want to get off your chest?
01:07:17I think I'm good today.
01:07:18Thank you, guys.
01:07:19Happy Halloween.
01:07:20Happy Halloween.
01:07:21Everybody happy Halloween.
01:07:22Do you dress up as Chucky every year for Halloween, or do you just?
01:07:24I did for 17 years in a row.
01:07:26Okay.
01:07:27But then I, I don't know.
01:07:29Kids would show up, and they'd say, I know who you are.
01:07:32They got on to me.
01:07:34So you just retired it.
01:07:35I'm going to change it up.
01:07:36I'm going to Iowa.
01:07:37We're going to Iowa for Halloween.
01:07:38The wife's the Badgers and the Hawkeyes.
01:07:41So if you're out there in Iowa City, can't wait to meet you.
01:07:44We're going to have a blast.
01:07:45All right.
01:07:45We'll see you guys next week.
