00:00Hey guys it's Lucy and this is my show. What's up? I posted on my snapchat a
00:05couple weeks ago and I asked you guys to send me your questions about how I
00:09survived high school. I have a whole list of questions. Oh my god my phone is
00:14rainbow. Lauren Moran 22 wants to know, how did you juggle homework, friends, and
00:19being in all those musicals at the same time? I was in about 17 or 18 shows
00:25during my time in high school. My senior year I was the president of the drama
00:28club and of course at the same time of doing all of that I needed to focus on
00:32my schoolwork so that I could get good grades and go to college. Time
00:35management was key. I definitely spent most of my time during the day focusing
00:40on schoolwork and then I spent most of my time after school focusing on
00:44extracurriculars like the drama club and then I spent most of my time on the
00:48weekends hanging out with my friends. I needed to focus on one thing at a time
00:52and when I really allocated my brain power to that one thing during its
00:55designated time period everything fell into place. The Young N.A. asks did you
01:01enjoy the cafeteria pizza? I don't think my high school had pizza. We had pizza bites
01:06and it was my favorite ever but pizza squares were a no-go. Sofia Navas asks did
01:14you lose any good friends while in high school? I didn't lose any friends in
01:18high school but I did do a lot of friend group hopping around to try to find my
01:22people and high school is really a time to figure that out and to learn who
01:26those people are for you that are going to be your ride-or-die best friends
01:31forever. So I definitely did not lose friends. I didn't burn any bridges. I'm
01:36actually still friends with so many people from my high school and I see them
01:40all around New York City from time to time and we have a great time together but
01:44I will say that high school is a time to come into your own figure out who you are
01:48and stop hanging out with people just because they're popular but start
01:51hanging out with people because they're nice and you actually align with the
01:55same values that they have. Jordan Taylor asks were you able to balance having a
01:59boyfriend on top of homework and studies? My current boyfriend Michael with whom I
02:04share this apartment space was my high school boyfriend. I started dating him
02:08junior year. He was a year older so he was a senior. I did a great job at
02:12balancing boyfriend with schoolwork in that I always made sure my schoolwork was
02:16done before it was hang out with a boyfriend time. Michael on the other
02:20hand did not do the best job and he got a D on his Spanish final because I kept
02:25him up on the phone and he still holds that against me to this day and you
02:28know what I think I'm more important than his Spanish final so I'm cool with it.
02:32Kaylee O'Brien wants to know how did you survive dealing with cliques in high
02:36school? High school is like the jungle. Mean Girls is honestly an accurate
02:41representation of what some high schools in America are like. The way that I dealt
02:45with cliques was really trying to keep into perspective how high school is not
02:51the end of the road. I think a lot of people get stuck in this mindset that
02:55high school is the bubble of life and that's it. That's where you're gonna be
02:58forever. I remember all the times that I felt stressed out or that I felt like I
03:02didn't fit in. I reminded myself that there was so much more life that was to
03:07be had and that perspective really helped me get through the times when I
03:11felt like I was being left out. At the end of the day most people who are in
03:14cliques are sticking to that group of people because they themselves feel a
03:18little bit insecure about not being part of a clique. Odds are if you look around a
03:22high school cafeteria, the people that are not part of a set clique, the people
03:26that are floating around and have many groups of friends, those people are
03:30probably the coolest ones. Find them and befriend them.
03:35mandapanda0206 asks, did you enjoy your senior prom? You bet I did. I went with
03:39Michael. BRB, let me show you a picture. This is a magnet that's currently on my
03:44fridge from senior prom. Me and Michael. Jake A Roth asks, how did you handle peer
03:51pressure? I think very early on I decided who I was and what I wanted to do and
03:56what I didn't want to do and when someone asked me to do something that I
03:59didn't want to do, I was very comfortable saying no thank you. I was never shaming
04:05the people that wanted to smoke weed or wanted to do drugs or wanted to drink a
04:09lot of alcohol. I found that that was just something that I didn't want to do
04:13for myself. So by allowing other people to do whatever they chose to do and
04:18still hanging out with people who were making different choices from me, I was
04:22confidently able to stay away from being peer pressured but not lose any friends
04:26in the process. The young NA asks, were you the person to hand out or ask for gum?
04:32That is a great question and I was always the asker. I never had gum.
04:36Karlyn Cosby asks, do you have any tips for starting high school? Carry a backpack. I
04:43think a lot of people try carrying like those side shoulder bags and they wind up
04:47getting scoliosis and having really bad back pain. A lot of people think
04:50backpacks are not cool but take it from an adult who's living in the real world
04:53who still carries a backpack. And the truth is the term cool is not a set
04:58article of clothing or a bag that you carry. Cool is a mindset and it's the
05:03person who's doing the carrying or the wearing that makes something cool or not
05:07cool. Little Missy H asks, did you ever have an awkward phase in high school and
05:11how did you get over it? Did I have an awkward phase? Oh my gosh. Let me take you
05:18back to my dental history. I had braces in 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade and 9th
05:23grade. Four years of braces then they were off and I was like I'm home free for high
05:28school. Then in 10th grade, as you guys know for my period vlog, I got my period in
05:3310th grade which is when my body started undergoing some developmental changes. And
05:38after I got my period, my jaw shifted. So these two teeth started floating up into
05:45my head and I was about to leave it and my mom was like you can't leave this. You
05:50are gonna regret leaving this for your whole life. So my junior year of high
05:54school, I got braces back on and I had braces for my boyfriend's senior prom.
06:02So yes, I had an awkward phase and I got over it. Truthfully, I didn't know it was an
06:07awkward phase while it was happening. It's now that I look back at the pictures
06:10that I realize how awkward the phase actually was. I think I was more awkward
06:14in middle school though. I'm really happy middle school's over. Hi, it's KTW
06:18asked, how did you stay organized throughout high school? I was obsessed
06:23with school supplies. I was one of those people that ran to Staples right before
06:27school started and got tons of color-coded notebooks and folders. I loved stickers
06:33and agendas. I bought all new pens and markers. I always had a notebook and a
06:38matching colored folder. So red was always for history, yellow was always for
06:42science, blue was always for math, and green was always for English. And that's it.
06:48That is how I survived high school. I went in and I made it out and I'm alive to
06:53tell the tale. I know that high school can be very hard sometimes but I promise
06:57you there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Do you see it? Stick it out, hold
07:03tight because better things are coming your way. Bye!
