Jared Leto speaks about the Bataclan theatre in Paris.
Transcript
00:01Earlier this year, my band 30 Seconds to Mars was wrapping up a tour in Europe and we were
00:06looking for a good excuse to stop off in one of our favorite cities in the world, Paris.
00:13We decided to play a little impromptu show at a classic venue called the Bata Klan.
00:19It was beautiful, peaceful, and unforgettable.
00:24What a difference a day makes.
00:27Seven months later, on the evening of November 13th, 2015, that same venue, Bata Klan, was under siege.
00:35One in a series of terrorist attacks on Paris that changed the world forever.
00:43129 innocent people died, 368 were injured, and another 7 billion will forever be scarred by this horrific and senseless
00:52tragedy.
00:53Like some of you here, we had friends and former colleagues there that night.
01:00Steve Toth, Matt McJunkins, both made it out.
01:05Thomas, I add, did not.
01:09Antoine Larry was also at Bata Klan and said, Friday night, you took an exceptional life, the love of my
01:18life, the mother of my son, but you will not have my hatred.
01:22He went on to say, you're asking for it, but responding with hatred and anger is falling victim to the
01:32same ignorance that has made you what you are.
01:40You want me to be scared, to view my countrymen with mistrust, to sacrifice my liberty for my security?
01:50You lost.
01:52We are just two now, my son and me, but we are stronger than all the armies in the world.
02:02Tonight, we honor the victims of the unimaginable violence that has taken place this year in Paris and around the
02:08world.
02:10France matters.
02:12Russia matters.
02:14Syria matters.
02:15Mali matters.

02:22And peace is possible.
02:27By the way, many of us here are the sons and the daughters of immigrants.
02:41And Steve Jobs, the son of a Syrian immigrant, President Barack Obama.
02:52The American Music Awards wanted to show its support for the people of France and the entire world.
02:58To that end, they asked a woman who possesses one of the world's great voices to perform an iconic song
03:05made famous by the legendary French artist, Edith Piaf.
03:10Ladies and gentlemen, Celine Dion.
03:12Good to see you all on.
03:13Love you all.
