00:03Hey everyone it's me Jen with Refinery29 and I'm here with Sophia Amoruso, CEO and
00:10founder of Nasty Gal and today we're at our flagship store on Melrose and she's
00:15going to give me a little tour of it.
00:19So we have a mix of stuff here, Nasty Gal started with vintage and we still sell vintage.
00:24This is like from our vintage after-party collection so we actually take vintage pieces
00:29and rework them into really cool stuff like this.
00:31And then we have real vintage pieces like this amazing Moschino jacket.
00:36Oh beautiful!
00:37Isn't this insane?
00:38I know.
00:38Where do you find stuff like this though?
00:40We have really great buyers.
00:43We call this the nook.
00:45I like to have more magazines and stuff but it's a great destination for accessories and
00:49then shoes are kind of like have always been a really important category for us and shoes
00:56are important to our girl.
00:57I'm obsessed with shoes.
00:58I can't get enough of them.
01:00Me too.
01:00There's really wearable stuff but then you know we'll choose things that are really
01:04out there and super stylish.
01:06We design our own in-house lingerie now.
01:09We also carry really great brands like Fur Love and Lemons.
01:12We have little kind of like nighttime stuff you can wear to bed.
01:16This is great like under something sheer.
01:19So I really wanted the fitting rooms to be kind of like a jewel box in the center of the
01:23store and the fitting room experience to be really central to the shopping experience here
01:27at Nasty Gale Melrose.
01:29So they're all glass.
01:30They're all mirrored and the inside of the fitting rooms is so amazing.
01:34It's just kind of like a wall of mirrors.
01:36Wow.
01:37It's like an infinity room pretty much.
01:39Yeah.
01:39It's kind of like it's the perfect selfie room.
01:42Seriously.
01:42And then when you close it you can see out but no one can see in which is so cool.
01:46Amazing.
01:47So we started with vintage and vintage is still really important to the Nasty Gale brand.
01:52And we carry these amazing vintage t-shirts that we curate and you know this is an amazing
01:57Neil Young one and we have a Flea McMack here and a Leonard Skinner and it's just vintage
02:02t-shirts I mean I'm wearing one are just a cool way to like pair back something that's
02:06more high fashion and make it more wearable.
02:10So I know Nasty Gale started as an online retailer.
02:13How's the evolution from going online to having a physical store like?
02:17There's a lot to learn.
02:19We have an amazing team most of whom have worked in you know traditional retail.
02:22Being able to see the clothes together in person is really exhilarating.
02:27So what do you think is the most inspiring part of living in LA?
02:29The quality of life.
02:30It's that you can have outdoor space.
02:32I heard that the paperback of hashtag Girlboss came out and Girlboss is just about Sophia's
02:39personal journey of discovering Nasty Gale and establishing it.
02:43What do you think is your favorite piece of advice in the book?
02:47I mean my favorite piece of advice I mean we're standing in a retail store but it's you
02:51know money looks better in the bank than on your feet and I think you know the things
02:55that you have should be symbols of what you've earned.
02:58Sophia thank you so much for having me over here.
03:00Thanks for coming.
03:01And if you enjoyed this video please subscribe to Refinery29 and I'll see you next time.
