Watch one kid's dreams come true as she sits front row at New York Fashion Week.
Transcript
00:00When I was a kid, I dreamed of going to Fashion Week.
00:02Fast forward 11 seasons later, and somewhere along the way, the lights lost their luster.
00:06So, I posted an open casting call on Craigslist to find one super young and on-the-rise designer to
00:11come to a show with me.
00:13How do you feel about fast fashion?
00:15Big.
00:16What is style?
00:18Style's like my baby. Yeah!
00:21Are you more athletic or preppy?
00:24Puppies.
00:25Puppies. Huh.
00:27Would you like to go to a fashion show?
00:28Well, I've been in, too.
00:30My grandmother, she can make tutus.
00:32I want a tutu.
00:33I have to ask her.
00:35Ugh, it's so exclusive.
00:37What's your advice for someone that wants to be a fashion designer?
00:39They could look up on the internet how to make stuff.
00:42Just Google it.
00:43Um, my name is Ava Decker. I'm eight years old.
00:47It's my dream to show at New York Fashion Week.
00:50What would you want to be known for?
00:52A lot of pattern in them. Polka dots, stripes, stars.
00:56Um, and also, I want to be known for, um, my kindness.
01:01Then maybe you could change the fashion industry from the inside, right?
01:05Our conversations were enlightening.
01:07Ah!
01:08Ah!
01:08Ah!
01:10But one interview stuck out in my mind.
01:12I decided to bring Ava with me because of her sincerity, love of fashion, and above all, her kindness.
01:17So I went to Jersey for a surprise visit before the show.
01:20Hi!
01:22Oh my gosh!
01:24These are some of my sketches.
01:27My favorite one is this one because I like the yellow and the orange.
01:33This one's animal print, and that one's just polka dots.
01:37I love it.
01:38Guess what?
01:38We're going to be sitting in the front row.
01:40That's really awesome.
01:46Tell us why you chose this look.
01:48I really like the colors, and I love chevron pattern.
01:52The Mood of the Moment, chevron, by Ava.
01:54It's groovy, huh?
01:56Yeah.
01:56We kind of make a good duo, don't we?
01:58Come on.
01:59Wah!
02:01I can barely contain myself.
02:03I think we should go.
02:04What do you think?
02:05Yeah.
02:05We're going to a show.
02:07Yeah, we're going to a show.
02:10So we finally made it.
02:12We're at the Karen Walker Show.
02:14On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you?
02:16A hundred.
02:17A hundred?
02:18A hundred and ten?
02:20A hundred and ten.
02:21I don't, I'm not very good at math.
02:22Here we go.
02:23Hi!
02:24We're on the list.
02:25Here you go.
02:27Here we go.
02:28Here we are.
02:29And I didn't, I knew that there were going to be some cameras.
02:32I didn't think there would be that many.
02:34Yeah, there are a lot of cameras.
02:46And I was seven, my grandmother taught me how to make a circular skirt for my Barbie doll.
02:51Do you have a Barbie doll?
02:52Yeah.
02:53And that was literally the moment that it turned on and my lover fashion wore.
02:57And when I was eight, no, I didn't imagine this.
03:00That's, I think, the most important piece of advice is, yeah, practice lots.
03:05So you just survived your first fashion show.
03:08Yeah.
03:09What did you think?
03:10I'm going to be a designer when I grow up.
03:14Seeing things through her eyes brought the magic back to the shows, even if just for one editor.
03:35I'm going to be a designer when I grow up.
