R29's Lucie Fink takes you on a tour of 29Rooms.
Transcript
00:00Hey, it's Lucie Fink, and in case you missed it all over social media earlier this month,
00:04I'm here to tell you about 29 Rooms.
00:16This is Refinery29's second year hosting the interactive funhouse of style, culture, and technology.
00:22And I'm sure you're wondering what was inside this year's 80,000 square foot warehouse in Bushwick.
00:27Well, it's exactly what it sounds like. 29 Rooms!
00:33What I brought with me are three pieces, which are mirrors.
00:37All of my work is based on reflection and mirroring.
00:40Cool!
00:41Did you come up with the technologies yourself?
00:44Yes. It's important for me that I do everything about these pieces.
00:48I program the computers, and I build the pieces, and assemble it,
00:51and I have to touch every little thing that's on the walls.
00:56This is genius!
00:58Some rooms were fueled by celebrities, influencers, or cool new products.
01:02I'm looking through a virtual reality goggles right now, and I'm painting.
01:09Whoa!
01:10And other rooms were just plain fun.
01:13You can't hear, but later tonight, this room is going to be filled with people,
01:18all dancing with their silent disco headphones on,
01:21enjoying the music,
01:24having the best time of their lives.
01:27The room is literally powered by the people, so there's photo booths set up in all the corners,
01:32and as you dance, they trigger these amazing, like, explosions on the walls and on the floor,
01:37and you get to actually see, live, your images all over the place.
01:41What do you want people to walk away feeling?
01:43Feeling like they're important, feeling like they've actually contributed to the art that you're seeing on the walls,
01:47and being a part of the energy.
01:58This is the radiant human universe, and I just had my photo taken,
02:03and now my aura is going to be red based on how it comes out.
02:06Purple is all about concepts.
02:07Purple is all about the ability to share your ideas and be a part of ideas,
02:11and that's what's important to you.
02:12Now, when there's blue in here, blue is the emotional connection to that as well.
02:17You prefer to have fun, you prefer to kind of be adventurous, impulsive sometimes, definitely.
02:23Oops.
02:23Before the exhibit was even open to the public, we held a VIP night,
02:27where Michael Brown and I got to interview some cool celebrities on the red carpet.
02:30We spoke to Rashida Jones, Stacy London, Adrienne Grenier, Kate Marat, and more.
02:36Mic Drops.
02:42We want people to leave the experience feeling really positive, really optimistic,
02:46and filled with possibility, realizing the power that they have
02:51and their ability to express themselves and create change, big and small, in their lives.
02:58Who knows if next year's 29 Rooms will be even bigger or something completely different,
03:03but either way, we hope to see you there.
03:0529 Rooms, yeah.
