00:00Hi, I'm Dove Celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend and I'm here to give you some
00:03tips and tricks on how to make second day hair look really chic and cool. So
00:08with second day hair the first thing I'm gonna do is dry shampoo it. I'm a huge
00:14fan of dry shampoo and I'm a connoisseur of all of them. I can tell you the pros
00:19and cons of everyone out there. Look for starch and powder. It's really important.
00:24Dry shampoo is such a great alternative between traditional shampooings and I
00:29am not a fan of very clean hair anyways. Doesn't it really have no guts. It has no
00:36hold. So if I don't have second day hair already I make it with dry shampoo. See
00:44the dry shampoo is gonna absorb any of the oil and product buildup. Got a nice clean
00:52surface to work with. This is a big one this is a one and a quarter inch and it's
00:57really just to put a bend here and there instead of actually making a curl. Okay
01:03so this is a hairstyle that I did on Rachel McAdams when she went to the Oscar
01:10nominee luncheon and I actually dressed up her little bob with a hair accessory
01:15that I brought today to show you as well. The half up hairstyles are such a trend
01:20right now. They're easy to do. Women can do it on themselves which is great. It gets the
01:25hair off the face but you still feel like your hair is down so it's flattering from
01:29all angles. My second favorite product is salt water. I love the mineral sprays that
01:36are out right now because they give the hair texture without drying it out. I feel
01:41like the first round of salt sprays that came out were just way too, too drying to the hair.
01:46Now when you're doing any kind of updo or even half don't try to take all of your
01:51hair back in one swoop because you're not going to be able to get the hairline exactly
01:54how you want it and you want it to be very very soft. So I'm just sectioning off
01:58the first couple inches around the hairline all the way on both sides because
02:07this hair really isn't even long enough to get in there so we're gonna kind of fake it.
02:13So I section off the first couple inches around the hairline because it's too hard to get
02:18it into the back. So I just took the top and a little bit of each side and folded it
02:24into
02:24a little twist. I'm gonna secure with two bobby pins. Two bobby pins and we've got our base.
02:30Now instead of hair spraying we're gonna use more dry shampoo for a little extra grip.
02:37When I'm in a pinch I also will spray my bobby pins with dry shampoo because the powder and
02:46the starch gives it so much more hold. It's like a good kind of grip and friction.
02:53So I'm just using bobby pins to pull back some of the layers around the front and I
02:57think that especially when you're using bobby pins on yourself if you're just
03:01getting it in, good. A little more dry shampoo. Take a little bit more of the salt spray and I
03:11like to put it in my
03:12hands and then rake it through because I find that I'm a hairdresser and I'm even
03:17guilty of this. Sometimes I hold the bottle too close and you can get a wet spot.
03:23This way you can really distribute it a lot more evenly. When I took the two side, the pieces from
03:29the side,
03:30give it a little push up as you're putting your pin in because we love that volume on top.
03:35The hair accessory that I used on Rachel McAdams that day I actually brought with me. And again,
03:42where all those bobby pins were, that's your anchor and your foundation. Again, they're meant to be
03:47there. So get the bar of the hair accessory underneath the bobby pin. Voila. Second day hair is great. I
03:57love it.
03:57But what makes it a little more chic and red carpet ready or even party ready is the little details.
04:04So I never leave without a natural bristle toothbrush and extra hold hair spray.
04:21Here's a cool, pretty effortless look with second day hair.
04:26Here's a look.
04:26Bye.
04:33We'll see you next time.
