00:01Standing in for stars on the big screen, stunt women train hard to pull up the
00:06moves that make movie magic. Requiring enormous strength from head to toe,
00:10stunt women must know how to jump, dive, fall, and fight in any scenario. Defying
00:15fear and facing harrowing challenges, they are the true badasses of the
00:19entertainment industry.
00:27Sydney, you're one of the coolest women I know. I mean, you're a stunt woman. How did you even get
00:31into this?
00:32I wanted to do stunts since I was a little kid, and I took up gymnastics. I met some
00:37people that live down here in Los Angeles, and they were like, hey, you know, like if
00:41you wanted to get into it, like you just got to move down here. Then the next week
00:44they had gotten me my first job.
00:45That's so awesome.
00:51So we're going to go over how to get over some of these obstacles, like a real
00:54chase scene. The first vault that we're going to do is called safety vault. One
00:57hand on and the opposite foot. Yes! The next one I want to teach you is a speed
01:02vault. So a speed vault is like the safety vault, only you're just not going to touch
01:06your feet this time. Yeah.
01:08How many women are in stunts?
01:09Um, there's quite a few, you know, like there's definitely more men in the
01:12business, but every year there gets to be more and more that want to get into it and
01:16all that. I just think that's great.
01:19We're actually going to need to use the wall right there. So get your foot on the
01:23wall like this. Basically, you're just taking a step up the wall, okay?
01:31Yes! Okay, so now we're going to come back down and we're going to try and link them all
01:35together. Do you think you could do that? Wow. Okay.
01:37But it's just going to look like this.
01:45Okay. Come on, Allison. You can do it.
01:48All right.
01:49Good. There we go.
01:52Oh my gosh. First try. Allison, you want to do anything?
02:02This is going to prepare you for your car slide that you're going to do today. I'm
02:06doing a car slide. You're doing a car slide. Okay.
02:08All you're going to do is you're going to run up, you're going to choose a leg, you're
02:11going to get it up in front of you, you're going to aim for the middle of the block here,
02:13and you're just going to slide across every other. Oh, that's pretty good.
02:18A lot of times when we're doing chase scenes, you know, I always have bad guys running and
02:22jumping over my car. So I thought it would be fun to do that with you today.
02:25All right, let's go. Let's do this.
02:26Yes, we've got this. It's the same thing that we did before. You're going to run, you're
02:30going to lift up that left leg, and you're going to get your butt onto the car, and you're
02:33just going to look forward and just slide.
02:36Yeah!
02:37Woo!
02:37Oh my God.
02:39Okay.
02:39I know you can do the same thing.
02:45Yeah!
02:52And the next thing we're going to be doing is high falls. We're going to be starting from
02:56up there, and you're just going to jump into this foam pit here.
02:59I'm terrified. I'm not going to lie.
03:03How much of this is mental versus physical?
03:06A lot of it is mental. There's some things that I'll do where I'm going out, I'm like,
03:10I don't know how I'm going to do this. Once they call action, you're just like a whole different
03:13person, you just do the stunt, you get it over with, and then you're just like, wow,
03:17I want to do it again.
03:20I think you can definitely do this. You just have to break past that mental barrier. I know
03:24you're scared right now.
03:25This is where the mental part comes.
03:26Yeah. So just look at me, keep your eyes on me, and do that, okay?
03:29Okay.
03:34You've come really far today, and now I'm going to make you do something that you might
03:38not want to do. This is going to be a roof gap, or a simulated roof gap.
03:41So the high fall was just an appetizer?
03:44Yes, exactly.
03:44This is like the main event here.
03:46Okay.
03:47All you're going to do is you're going to take a step, you're going to drive that knee up,
03:50you're going to jump, you're going to aim for that, you're going to put your feet down
03:52and touch your hands, and you're just going to run off. What do you think?
03:55I'm really, really nervous, but I want to try it.
04:04Today was an incredible experience. I knew that stunts was, of course, very, very physical,
04:09but I didn't realize until today the amount of mental strength it requires. Making myself
04:17do just basic stunts were so challenging, but it was so rewarding, it was so invigorating,
04:23and now I totally get the adrenaline rush and the desire to keep doing it again and again.
