00:00Is this going to help with my lymphatic damage?
00:02It will, absolutely.
00:04And where does it go?
00:05It probably just gets peed out.
00:11Hey guys, Mi-Ann here, Beauty Writer at Refinery29
00:13and today I'm going to Dermalogica Soho,
00:16which is a spot in New York to get a high frequency treatment.
00:19It's going to help with inflammation,
00:20it's going to literally zap my zits and help kill bacteria.
00:24It costs about $50 for every 20 minutes
00:28of getting the actual service.
00:30I am a little bit nervous just because it is
00:33literal electricity going over my skin,
00:35but I've heard it's pretty painless,
00:37so I'm actually very excited to see if it helps
00:39with any of the acne that I've got going on today.
00:42It was founded in the 1800s by Nikola Tesla,
00:46who's a well-known scientist.
00:48He used it to help more with like infections,
00:50because that was before we had antibiotics.
00:52A French biophysicist realized in 1892 actually
00:56that it had like an antibacterial effect on the skin
00:59and would help with like skin infections.
01:03There's two different types of gas in the electrode.
01:07So there's glass electrodes.
01:08The gas is vacuum sealed into the electrode.
01:10So we put the electrode in the actual current.
01:14We turn it on.
01:15The gas ignites.
01:16There's either neon gas or argon gas.
01:18Argon gas is going to glow more like a purple or violet hue.
01:22The neon is going to be more orange.
01:29As far as our treatment goes, it's fully customized.
01:32So we'll focus on clearing up the breakouts, the redness.
01:35I'll start with a double cleanse routine.
01:37Take a closer look at your skin and then we'll get started.
01:41Hormonal acne as a teenager does start in the forehead
01:44and then it literally will slowly progress down.
01:47That's exactly what happens.
01:48Adult acne is typically along the jawline.
01:50So we're going to start the high frequency portion of the treatment.
01:53Okay.
01:54I'll treat the whole face, of course,
01:55but I'll just focus if you're saying down on the jawline.
02:00Here at Dermalogica, we place gauze over the skin before we apply the current.
02:05It just allows you to get more oxygen into the skin because that's what's jumping
02:09from the high frequency itself into the skin.
02:11And the oxygen is what's killing the bacteria.
02:23With the gauze, you get even more oxygen.
02:25We call it like a spark gap.
02:26So it's more beneficial.
02:28It's also easier to glide across the skin.
02:46All right, how's your skin feeling?
02:48It feels good.
02:48I feel so relaxed.
02:50Good.
02:50Great.
02:50I think I fell asleep for a good minute there.
02:53No worries.
02:54And you'll definitely see the breakouts that you were worried about.
02:56They already look a little bit better, actually, not as inflamed.
02:59That's the goal.
03:00Yeah.
03:00I'll tone your skin now, put on some moisturizer and SPF,
03:03and then you'll be good to go.
03:05Awesome, thank you.
03:06That was so cool.
03:08It definitely didn't hurt at all, which I was kind of surprised by,
03:12because I expected it to have a little bit more zapping or tingling sensation.
03:17My acne has really subsided.
03:19Now it's day three since I've had the facial, and it doesn't hurt anymore.
03:24It's not as red and inflamed.
03:26I'm actually really happy with the results.
03:28I would definitely go back again.
