Transcript
00:00Hey guys, it's Milana and this is Beauty in a Snap.
00:04Today, we're talking about primers, that extra step we take before applying our makeup.
00:09Is it really worth it?
00:10Me and my friends Val and Kayla will be trying on a couple of different primers to see if
00:14they really work.
00:15Today, we're going to be trying out radiance, color correcting, pore perfecting, and even
00:20lip and eye primers to see what they do.
00:22We're going to be putting primer on half of our faces, doing a full face of makeup and
00:27then seeing if the primer does everything it says it's going to do.
00:30Will my skin get more radiant?
00:31Will pores be perfected?
00:33Stay tuned.
00:34I'm going to start by priming half my face with this Radiance Primer and then applying
00:37makeup to my entire face.
00:39There are so many primers out there and we each want them to accomplish something different.
00:43Maybe you want to minimize your pores or love color correcting primers because they help even
00:47out your skin tone or maybe, like me, you really want that all day dewy base.
00:52All primers will help smooth out your skin before you go in with makeup.
00:55They're intended to keep your makeup intact for longer while also cutting down shine on
01:00your face that we develop throughout the day.
01:02Illuminating and Radiance Primers are great if you want a little bit of a glow or sheen
01:06to sit under your makeup.
01:08The effect is subtle, but you should still get a little glimmer to your tone.
01:11If you're going for a matte look, a Radiance Primer might not be what you're looking for.
01:16Val is using a poreless matte primer as her base and then following this step with a peach
01:21color correcting primer on her acne scars and dark spots in place of concealer.
01:29She goes in with an eye primer to create a smooth base for her eyeshadow.
01:33Pore minimizing and matte primers are some of the basics.
01:36They aim to erase pores and wrinkles, leaving skin with a soft matte finish.
01:41Although, if you have dry skin, this can sometimes strip the skin of its moisture.
01:46Less is best.
01:47Don't use too much primer.
01:49A little goes a long way and is enough for your skin to absorb and be ready for the next
01:53step.
01:54Otherwise, it can get a little streaky if you add too much.
01:58Kayla will be using a green color correcting primer on half her face to cover up any redness.
02:04Color correcting primers are an easy go-to.
02:06They can conceal specific skin concerns like redness, dark spots, and dullness before you reach for your
02:12foundation. The best way to know which color will work to hide your skin concern is to think of the
02:17color wheel. Colors that are opposite from one another will help cancel the other out.
02:22Purple tones hide yellow tones in your skin that, for a fairer skin tone, can make it more glowy.
02:27Green primers are best for fighting redness, especially evening out acne or rosacea.
02:32Pink primers will brighten up any skin tone. Yellow is good for fair skin tones that want to hide any
02:38blue-purple in their skin. And finally, peach primers are great to hide age spots and dark circles.
02:44She then applies lip primer to half her lips as a base for the lipstick.
02:49There are so many primers out there, we even have ones for our eyes, lips, and lashes.
02:54Like any face primer, these primers coat specific areas to make sure once your makeup goes on,
03:00it will stay in place and have less fallout.
03:05Every skin type is different, and in some cases, primers can break you out.
03:09It's generally best to try a few products that work for you until you've found the one you love.
03:17There are tons of primers out there, but whether you decide to use them or not,
03:20it's still great to know what function they can serve in your beauty routine.
03:23We hope this video helped you understand which primer works best for you.
